Nirvana Blue is an Off-Grid Boutique Luxury Villa at the secluded and untouched Playa Kuka beach, nestled within the highly beautiful Rio Lagartos Biosphere Reserve. Birding, Stargazing, Fly Fishing, Sunbathing, and Kiteboarding abound in this natural Yucatec paradise. Nirvana Blue is the perfect place to disconnect from stress and come back to nature.
All rooms in Nirvana Blue have private beach access and have been carefully designed to accentuate the landscape's natural beauty and our guests' comfort. The villa floats over the low flora canopy and plays on traditional Yucatan construction to capture the refreshing gentle breezes of the ocean. Two Penthouse and two Bungalow Suites, each with their own private bathroom and views, offer privacy, luxury, serenity and inspiration. The main structure offers a family style open kitchen and living room which is perfect for hanging out and cooking meals.
There are numerous activities in this rich area that we recommend to all our guests. A guided nature tour will take you to see many species of birds, including the densest concentration of flamingos in Mexico. There are crocodiles, rare birds, and many other animals! This tour will also take you to see Las Coloradas, lakes famous throughout the world for their pink color. Specialized birding tours and guided fishing tours can also be arranged, and paddle board, kitesurfing and kayak rentals are available, with instructors who can meet and teach you right at the beach. The nearby Chichen Itza ruins and cenote are majestic and highly popular, and the lesser known Ek Balam ruins are very beautiful and sparsely visited, with a magical cenote you can swim in. The nearby village of Rio Lagartos is lovely to walk through, and the delicious fresh fish served at the restaurants feeds all of the Yucatan peninsula. For interested guests our caretakers can also cook daily Yucatec cuisine for your group, which they will do in your kitchen so you can observe the recipes. The miles of open beach are wonderful for walking along, finding diverse and ever-changing shells, daydreaming, and taking in the local flora and fauna, and swimming in the ocean is of course fantastic! The water is gentle and shallow. You can wrap up your day by star-gazing at night from the bed or terrace and taking in the brilliantly clear night sky.
Nirvana Blue is one of the few properties within this exclusive reserve and is unique throughout the world for the depth of isolation and intimacy with nature it affords. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff are on site 24/7 and will make sure you are comfortable and well attended.

Are there grocery stores or restaurants nearby?
If you are not requesting the cooking and provisioning service, there is a grocery store on the drive in from the airport which is listed in the directions. There are several restaurants in Rio Lagartos as well. Oil, salt, and other cooking staples are provided.
Is there cell reception at the house?
Yes
Is there wifi at the house?
Wifi at the house may be intermittent, dependent on the weather in the area. The house is ideal for those looking to disconnect.
What are some animals I can hope to see?
Flamingoes, jaguarundis, raccoons, foxes, monkeys, dolphins, and many rare birds. The reserve is a bird sanctuary and has 395 inhabitant bird species, one of the highest species densities in the world. Their beautiful singing will accompany you throughout your visit, and wake you in the mornings.
Is your house friendly to diverse travelers?
I am dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all of my guests. LGBTQ travelers, travelers with disabilities (though the house is not wheelchair accessible) and travelers of all ethnicities are more than welcome at my home.
Can you see the sunrise or the sunset from the house?
The house faces north-northeast and is located on the very northern-most point of the Yucatan peninsula, so there is ocean to the east, to the north and to the west. Depending of the time of the year, you can often see the sun rise out of the ocean in the morning and set back into the ocean in the evening. It’s very romantic. At night, the sky is brilliant with stars. The views during both the day and night are breathtaking.
