Hibiscus Cottage, our most popular accommodation, is a lovely octagonal shaped studio, offering a luxurious and practical design ideal for Caribbean style living. The cottage offers absolute privacy and has a stunning solid timber vaulted roof which gives the studio an enticing, spacious and cool atmosphere. Measuring approximately 8m (26') wide and with a large covered veranda on the front, this accommodation is the perfect choice for two people wanting the luxury, intimacy, privacy and space that your own cottage provides. A queen size bed complete with luxurious mattress is positioned centrally in the room and ample seating, cupboard and storage space is close at hand. A spacious en-suite toilet and shower room leads from the living area and a complimentary range of organic bathroom toiletries are provided, together with high quality bath linen and pool towels.

Two cane and rattan armchairs provide a very comfortable seating area and the panoramic views looking through 24' of glass fronted patio doors are absolutely breathtaking. The large and private veranda has a bistro dining table and chairs allowing you to dine Al fresco style and enjoy the ambience of the outside environment. The well laid out kitchen has a sink unit, 2 burner gas hob, fridge, combination microwave oven and grille, toaster, kettle, cafetiere, espresso maker, blender and a comprehensive range of high quality cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. An ice bucket is supplied and complimentary ice is available from the Pool Bar or the housekeeping staff.

This very private cottage has breathtaking and panoramic views looking directly over the Caribbean Sea and is reached along your own natural stone pathway and down a board-walk with steps. The walk is beautiful and takes in the lush gardens of Tropical Hideaway and a hillside garden of mixed fruit trees and colourful Hibiscus plants in a visually stunning array of colours. It should be pointed out that Hibiscus Cottage is situated 67 steps down from the Infinity Pool, Gazebo and the pool patio area. It does however provide absolute privacy and the views are simply stunning. The sunsets here can be breathtaking, the 'green flashes' magical and if you are lucky enough to be here on a full moon the shimmering moonlight reflecting on the ocean will take your breath away. It certainly is worth the one minute walk. It should also be noted that Hibiscus Cottage is our most popular accommodation and is the highest awarded property in all of Bequia.

Tropical Hideaway has an 18m (58') wide panoramic Infinity Pool and is often quoted as being one of the top ten pools in the Caribbean. The Infinity Pool is a stunning feature of the property and with the environmentally friendly solar heating, the pool can be enjoyed at all times of the year. Typically our daytime pool temperatures are around 33 deg C in summer and 29 deg C in Winter. That’s an amazing 94 deg F falling to a very inviting 84 deg F in winter. The extra 3 degrees C created by our solar heating can make an enormous difference to your enjoyment of the pool. There is a swim up sunken pool bar, complete with fridge, ice-maker and sink, a preparation and serving area and a generous supply of acrylic beverage glasses. Adjoining the pool is a Gazebo complete with a large daybed and the views from here are just incredible. A perfect place to relax and read a book or simply enjoy the spectacular scenery. A cooling Caribbean breeze is usually present and the Gazebo and large parasols provide areas of shade for the hottest part of the day.

We have no biting sand flies (no see ums) at Tropical Hideaway and are mosquito free most of the year, except for a few around evening time. All indoor living areas and bedrooms are fully screened allowing you the convenience of a mosquito free environment with the ambiance of outdoor living and stunning views of the Caribbean Sea. You can sleep soundly at night safe in the knowledge that there are no biting insects or mosquito's in your room. We take very seriously our guests health and well being and having a screened and mosquito free environment should be an important factor when choosing your holiday accommodation.

Tropical Hideaway has without doubt some of the finest rooms on Bequia, and coupled with the spectacular panoramic ocean views and the beautiful evening sunsets, you soon realize you are enjoying, what many say, are the finest views on Bequia, from the finest accommodation on Bequia.

Location description from owner

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines region

Beautiful Bequia (pronounced bek way) is an undiscovered paradise, the Caribbean of 20 years ago. Covering an area of only 7 square miles, Bequia lies in the warm tropical waters of the Caribbean Sea. It is just a short plane hop from the ever popular Barbados and next to the renowned Mustique, both favourite islands of the rich and famous. It is the largest of the Grenadine Islands known also as the jewels of the Caribbean and is blessed with several pristine, white sandy beaches many of which are totally natural and undeveloped.

If you want resort hotels, nightclubs and beaches full of sunbeds, don't come to Bequia. If you want to discover the undiscovered, visit our beautiful Island, enjoy the uncrowded pristine white sandy beaches, swim and snorkel in our safe and warm Caribbean waters and experience the genuine friendliness of the local Bequian people.

Bequia is an all year round destination with daytime temperatures consistently averaging between 24C (75F) and 30C (86F) throughout the year. A "chilly" evening in the winter months (January to March) might see a low of around 22C (72F) and in the summer months the temperature will occasionally reach 32C (90F).Trade winds bring cooling breezes for most of the year and the famous Christmas Winds bring stronger breezes and livelier seas, perfect for the keen sailor.

The "dry" season from December to May coincides with the "high" season for visitors, with clear sunny skies, low humidity and minimal rainfall. The Island is totally reliant on rain for its water, so the arrival of the "rainy" season in May/June is always a blessing. The warmer, summer months of May to November are a welcome mixture of occasional showers, sunshine and light breezes, with the isolated heavy downpour.Showers are usually short and mainly come in the night.

Bequia is far South in the hurricane belt, and although tropical storms will occasionally approach in the peak months of August to October, most disturbances either pass to the north or dissipate before they reach the Grenadines Island chain.

Please note the so called rainy season is not a particularly reliable statement any more as the seasons have become very mixed and variable. The weather forecast for our part of the Caribbean typically states, Sunshine with a mix of cloud and occasional showers. It does reflect the changing climate and weather patterns and seems to be accurate for most of the year. At least the forecaster can never get it wrong.

Having two dive shops and around 24 dive sites, Bequia is a divers paradise. Our diverse marine environment includes relaxing reefs, wall dives, drift dives and even a few wrecks. You can still dive and snorkel away from the crowds in crystal clear waters with reefs that are still pristine. Our abundant and diverse sea life ranges from 100s of species of Tropical Fish, Octopus, Sea Turtles and Sea Horses to name but a few. Bequia has it all and will satisfy beginners trying out snorkelling, scuba divers who wish to take a Padi course and experienced divers wishing to go on an exhilarating dive. Looking for an adventure? Try Discover Scuba with one of our two dive shops and enjoy a shallow reef dive with one of their experienced instructors.

We now have available our brand new forty page 2016 guidebook about Tropical Hideaway and the Island of Bequia. It has detailed information about local services, the fun things to do, our local restaurants, day trips to nearby islands and a wealth of other information invaluable for anyone intending to visit ourbeautiful Island. To read our complimentary guidebook please visit our website, scroll down the Tropical Hideaway 'Welcome' page and click on the guide book.

Bequia truly is a unique Island. Large enough to be interesting and exciting, yet small enough to retain its local charm and uniqueness that only a small off the beaten track Caribbean Island can offer. It truly is an undiscovered paradise that some well known travel journalists are only just discovering and several well known newspapers and magazines have recently published articles and all describe Bequia as an undiscovered paradise, about to be discovered.

What more can I say ............. Come see for yourselves!

Richmond

Tropical Hideaway is located in an elevated hillside position high above the famous Princess Margaret Beach and with an incredible panoramic vista overlooking the Caribbean Sea, Admiralty Bay and the surrounding forested hillsides, the views are absolutely stunning and will not disappoint.

If you enjoy walking, it's a nice downhill walk to three of the best beaches on the island. Princess Margaret Beach is the nicest, pristine and uncrowded and a short 20 - 25 minute walk down the road. A few parts of the road are steep. Most people walk down to town, the restaurants or the beach and catch a taxi back. Taxis are cheap and plentiful. Some guests walk both ways and some guests hire a car for a few days to explore the Island. Princess Margaret Beach is ideal for children and adults alike. It is very safe with turquoise blue, warm, calm waters. The beach is stunning with lovely white powdery sand. There is a very nice restaurant on the beach and there are numerous other restaurants and bars on the Island. Snorkelling is good on both points at either end of the beach.

Lower Bay is the furthest village to the West off Admiralty Bay and is different again. It is, dare I say it, more laid back than Port Elizabeth. Again you have the long, beautiful, white sandy beach together with several beach bars De Reef, Keegan’s, La Plage and Dawn’s to name but a few and all offering tasty food and giving undisturbed views of the sunset and (if you are lucky) a green flash. Sunday is the busy day here when the island comes out to ‘chill’.

The Bequia board-walk is now complete allowing you to walk from the beach at Lower Bay over a small headland onto the stunning Princess Margaret Beach. You can then walk over Princess Margaret Beach to the next headland which now has a spectacular board-walk suspended from the rock face. This connects to the Belmont walkway, passing several bars, restaurants, the two local dive shops, various small shops and cafes and eventually leads into town.

Bequia may be small and laid back, but for the adventurous there is so much to see and do. Any taxi will take you on a tour of the island visiting such places as the turtle sanctuary, pottery and whaling museum. You can hire a car, scooter or bike to explore the many beaches yourself. The fast ferry allows you to visit the other Grenadine islands and the mainland of St Vincent. There are numerous day charter yachts for you to explore the smaller, closer islands and there is the famous Friendship Rose, the old mail boat, which takes you on day trips to Mustique and Tobago Cays.

Wherever you go on Bequia, you will be given the warmest of welcomes. Everyone is happy to help you have the best holiday ever. They do not go out to hassle you for business, as on other islands. They know you are here to relax and they give you the space to do that. This is why so many visitors return year after year, after year, so be warned, if this is your first time to Bequia, it will probably not be your last.

“Truly Amazing Tropical Hideaway - You Won't be Disappointed - AWESOME!!”

Reviewed 24 Feb 2012

We travel to many tropical destinations and have loved them all. Tropical Hideaway in Bequia, though, has surpassed any of our other trips. From the moment we arrived at Tropical Hideaway, we were welcomed with open arms from the proprietors, Martin and Julie. They are awesome hosts and treated us like we were family. We stayed in the Hibiscus Cottage and felt like we were in our own private place. It's one of the private cottages that are all truly great. They are accomodated with a small kitchen, a full shower and bath, a wireless set up for internet usage as well as a bank of programs to watch, and the most spectacular views one could imagine. Each of the cottages had it's own unique flare and design. I'm sure we'll be back to try one of the other cottages. Getting there: You should plan to add one extra day of travel coming and going. You can either fly into Trinidad and take a next day flight to St. Vincent and then the ferry to Bequia or fly to Barbados and fly into Bequia. This place is worth the extra time. Getting around: You can rent a vehicle, however, they charge a fee to get a temporary licence and driving is on the left side (opposite if you are from the US). We chose to use the taxi system. They were great and took us anywhere we wanted to go. All we had to do was call and they'd be there within 15 minutes. Dining: There is a small kitchen and refrigerator and stove top for those you might like to eat some of their meals in their cottage. There are also many restaurants in and around the Admiralty Bay area. There are some local grocery stores and kiosks set up with fresh fruits and vegetables. Activities: Although we just stayed mainly at the property and relaxed, there are several things to do including day trips to Tobago Caye which is one of most beautiful spots on the earth where you can snorkel or dive. There are also some Dive shops that you can use to go on dives.

“Exceeded all our expectations.”

This is possibly one of the best locations in all of the southern caribbean. The accommodation is to a very high standard and Martin and Julie are excellent, friemdly and accommodating hosts. We will definitely go back again. And on top of all this it is great value.
