Location description from owner

The Western Cape region

Things to do in the direct surrounding area, all within one hour drive:

Open the garden door and hike for 4 hours (!) on the unspoiled beach to Hermanus, where you have lunch and a taxi back home

Discover the wonders of our Cape fynbos with a visit to a local Fynbos farm. Fynbos is a wonder of the natural world. Nowhere else on earth are so many plant species crammed into such a small area.

There are seven nature reserves in the Overberg regio to visit, including Bontebok Park

Make a wine tasting tour in the newest and nearby wine regions: Stanford Valley and Hemel & Aarde Valley

Book a boat trip in the village to see the Great White Shark and, if you dare, go shark diving

In September Hermanus offers the annual whale festival, very vivid (but honestly you will see more whales at the premises)

Daytrips to Stellenbosch, Franschhoek or beautiful villages like Swellendam, Elim

Visit Cape L'Agulhas (Cape of Needles), the southernmost tip of Africa, where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. The lighthouse is the second oldest working lighthouse in South Africa.

Put our kayak on the roof of our Defender and relax on the Klein river in Stanford (10 minutes). Or try your 4 x 4 capabilities in Walker Bay nature reserve, next-door.

Caledon spa, with hot-springs and casino is an hour's drive away. Perfect for a chilly day.

There are a number of golf courses only a short drive away, including the windiest one you ever visited in Kleinbaai (10 minutes)

The Overberg has more than 330 bird species with at least 20 endemic species. This impressive diversity is due to the variety of habitats in the area.

Gansbaai

Gansbaai is now reputed world-wide to be the best place to see and dive with this impressive apex predator.
Surface view or cage dive with the Great White in its natural feeding ground around Dyer Island, just offshore of Gansbaai. The white shark seafari lasts about 4 hours, and begins with a 20 minute boat trip from Kleinbaai Harbour to Dyer Island.

Explore the spectacular Klipgat Cave, which is a 5 minutes walk from the villa. This cave was under water twice in its recent history due to changing climatic conditions. Middle Stone Age people occupied the cave about 60 000 to 50 000 years ago when the sea level was much lower, and the coast was 3 - 7km away. The remains left by these people are amongst the earliest in the world belonging to modern man. During the later Stone Age 2 000 years ago, early herders (Khoekhoe) also inhabited the cave. They left stone and bone artifacts, ornaments and remains of the animals they ate. Some of the earliest pottery in South Africa was also found in the cave.

Enjoy a horse ride through the fynbos or along the beach. Bookings in Stanford, from 2 hours till 5 days tours!

Walking trails including the Duiwelsgat hiking trail from Gansbaai to De Kelders (7km) which runs along the cliffs. There are many interesting trails in the surrounding area ranging from short, easy walks to longer hikes.

Visit Danger Point Lighthouse, the scene of one of the most famous shipwrecks in history, that of the HMT Birkenhead.

Enjoy a leisurely boat trip down the Stanford river, or visit the brewery, dairy and wine farm near this quaint village.

Pamper yourself with a variety of massage treatments in the house, such as aromatherapy, reflexology and shiatsu. (Pre-booking is advised.)

Enjoying a lunch at Mariana's Deli in Stanford is an absolute must; but booking in advance as well!

“Sheer bliss!”

Reviewed 10 Oct 2014

A villa where every need has been provided, fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, state of the art music system plus kayaks, mountain bikes, golf clubs and Landrover if requested. The villa has a stunning location with mountain and sea views which, if you are there at the right time of year, includes whales just off shore. It is also extremely peaceful. Eddy (the owner) and the local manager (Steyn) are both most helpful and a pleasure to deal with.

“fantastic place to feel at home and experience luxury and convenience”

The Cherry is an excellent place to be in all seasons. In African summer you can enjoy the luxury of the house, the nice swimmingpool and the splendid views of the ocean. In African winter you get the best possible views of whales just swimming and playing in front of the villa where you can enjoy and picture them from the veranda. The open fire makes The Cherry also a pleasant stay during African winters.
