We try to lead a life that is as sustainable as possible. We have set the cottage up to operate as a sustainable holiday home for guests who also like to live this way.
We generate over 75% of the electricity we use through our roof top solar system and the rest we source from renewable electricity providers. To minimize food waste, we use a compost bin and worm farm and invite our guests to use it as well. We have council recycling bins for paper and cardboard as well as glass plastic and Metal. Our water tanks collect rain that are used for some toilet and garden water. Inside the cottage you will find cotton sheets and towels that are laundered on site and predominantly line dried. All cleaning products and personal use products have minimal nasty chemicals in them, and containers are refilled as needed. The Cottage is fully insulated and has ceiling fans. The cottage has metal reusable water bottles and glass containers for left-over food for guests to use to further reduce their dependence on single use containers. We encourage the use of public transport and provide opal cards (stored value cards for Sydney’s Public Transport System) for guests to use while staying with us. We ourselves try to walk or ride a bicycle or use public transport as much as possible when getting out and about.
We have loved meeting many likeminded travellers over the years and love to hear stories about other ways we can reduce our impact on the planet.
We live next door and are on call to answer any of your questions and help make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The Cottage is cleaned and serviced weekly during your stay including fresh linen/towels/beach towels.
We offer a special rate for stays of a week or more.
If you're travelling with young children, a travel cot, high chair and selection of toys can be provided if needed. You will also find a range of books for all ages
: A free Manly Council operated shuttle bus (to Manly ferry wharf and local shopping destinations) runs past the end of the street (100m). Normal buses also operate along this route including peak hour services to the Sydney CBD. The closest supermarket, along with a selection of over 20 restaurants is 10 minutes walk away.
The Ranger's Cottage is so-named because it was originally inhabited by the local forest ranger over 100 years ago. Because we are so close to the bush we do enjoy a wide variety of bird life in the garden so don't be surprised if you find your self being observed by the inquisitive Kookaburras or chatty Rainbow Lorikeets. On your way to the beach or café you may also spot Pelicans and other sea birds or shy lizards sunning themselves on the rocks.
If you're looking for stylish, comfortable self-contained accommodation in an enchanted corner of Sydney Harbour, you've found it. With the added benefit of friendly local hosts who are happy to help but also happy to leave you to your own devices if you prefer.
