“Far from the madding crowd” We wanted a family holiday in Istanbul which meant space and a pool as well as sightseeing. Burgazada turned out to be a very good choice. Very lively and full of Turkish families getting away from the summer heat in Istanbul, but hardly any foreigners. Serenity has plenty of space with a garden and a great pool. Ferries to Istanbul frequent and comfortable and public transport makes it easy to see Istanbul. Island is a bit pricey and Turkish rentals include various hidden extras (linen, electricity for air conditioning, which you will need to sleep comfortably) so you need to take this into account. Also lots of mosquitos! We had a great holiday, kids and adults were all happy, and if we go back to Istanbul we'd certainly stay again.
Could just as easily have been called tranquility.
We have just returned from a superb week in Serenity. It is a lovely apartment, a very short walk from the harbour and shops and an even shorter walk to the bakery. Having the pool was excellent and we had it to ourselves all week. Sun loungers and umbrellas are provided for you to relax and soak up the sun. The apartment is a real home from home with all a family would require on hand. The BBQ on the balcony was a lovely touch. The island oozes calm and you find yourself almost immediately walking slowly as you wander to the shops and restaurants. We could not speak Turkish and very few waiters and shopkeepers had English, enthusiasm on both sides solved the problem and we were very happy with the results. The farmers market on the Friday was filled with the sights and smells of fruit, veg and spices. A kilo of cherries for €2 and similarly strawberries could not be ignored at the same price. The regular ferries to the mainland mean you can spend day trips to the hustle and bustle
of the centre of Istanbul. We are missing the Turkish Delight already, it was heaven. I'm smiling as I type, the memory of the week will remain forever. We were met on arrival and the people we dealt with all though the booking and the stay were lovely. Thanks Guys. …
