Palma de Mallorca holidays

The largest and most varied of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca promises an unforgettable holiday in the Mediterranean. It’s surrounded by pristine beaches, filled with historic attractions and boasts an average August temperature of 25 degrees.

Picking an apartment in Mallorca is an exciting choice between luxury town-centre suites in Palma, modern flats with a view of the beach, or something more traditional further inland, perhaps with a pool. Self-catering apartments are particularly easy to find. Most holiday apartments in Mallorca come with a well equipped kitchen suitable for cooking for the family or making a quick snack to take to the beach.

Beautiful beaches

Majorca has over 550km of coastline, featuring some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean. Deciding where to go first (because you’ll want to try more than one) is part of the fun. Playa de Alcudia, in the north-east, features fine white sand and the amenities of the fully developed resort beach, all set in a calm, sheltered bay watched by lifeguards. There’s even free parking, though it does fill up fast.

If you’re not a fan of resort-style beaches, Es Trenc, on the south coast, has more of a wild feel. It’s as close as you can get to a Caribbean beach without leaving Europe. You may have to walk for a while to find a space, but come early and you can enjoy the bright blue water to yourself.

Remarkable sights

If you can tear yourself away from the beach to go exploring, you’ll be rewarding with astounding views from Mallorca’s roads and clifftops. Cap de Formentor is a rugged peninsula in the far northeast, accessible by a winding, 20km road from Port de Pollenca. The dramatic cliffs and exhilarating hairpin bends culminate in an old stone watchtower that you can climb for an unbeatable view of Mallorca.
