“Cozy home with noisy roosters” The house was great and met all of our needs except air conditioning. Once we figured out that opening all the windows and turning on the fans cooled the house down quickly, we were fine. The location is nice and quiet as far as tourist & road noise goes. However, Kauai has roosters and chickens everywhere and the roosters start cocka-doodle-dooing at 2am and go on most of the day. It's a bit frustrating trying to sleep past 2am. Part of the problem may be the caged Hen house that someone has built on the property behind the house. The wifi was not consistently available, might take a hot spot. We enjoyed our stay, opened the house up when we returned in the evening, sat outside, and I slept with earplugs. This property helped us relax and enjoy our stay. Banana trees and many other plants all around the house help keep it cool, with the ocean breeze and are a nice touch to the atmosphere of the house. T & R

“Ideal Island Rental Condo” My sweetheart and I recently spent over a week based out of this beautiful condo just south of Kapaa on the east side of Kauai. The Kaha Lani condo complex is situated on the ocean as well as a nice walking/running path. This unit was one of the rare exceptions in our life where the photos did no justice to how nice this 1 bedroom apartment really is. It must have been remodeled quite recently with stone counters and new appliances. The kitchen equipment (pots, pans, knives etc.) was better than average and actually high end in some cases. We spent more time at the condo than we had anticipated, cooking meals, hanging out on the patio looking at and listening to the Pacific, swimming in the pool(the ocean is a little rough on the east shore for swimming but there is a protected little area about ten minutes walk from here) because it was really so nice. I would recommend this specific unit to anyone looking to have a relaxing time on Kauai.

“A slice of paradise” This is the second time we've stayed at Poipu Shores and we love it there. This condo is beautifully remodeled, comfortable and well equipped. I don't think you can find a better location, the waves are crashing into the coves so close they hypnotize and relax you instantly. Watch lots of turtles surf every afternoon, a quick walk to the beach, followed by a stunning sunset to watch from the deck or master bedroom. Was comfortable even for a family of 4 with grown children. We will be back. The condo complex itself is older but well maintained and this is a great remodel. I don't think they would ever let developers build this close to a beautiful, rugged coast again, this place is unique. In contrast you can find newer condo complexes complete with gyms and some additional amenities, but you will be several hundreds of yards from the ocean with a walk and a distant view. At this location, the waves are crashing maybe 50 or 100 yards away, and it's even kinda loud at times - a view that the private multi-million dollar villas have is yours.

“Nice condo for decent price” Our family of four stayed here for 9 nights over the holidays, with friends staying in another condo (#119). Thought it was a great place for the price. Well equipped kitchen, clean and quiet. Third floor, so about 25 stairs to enter. Partially obstructed, but beautiful view of sunrises over ocean. We had the great sandy beach pretty much to ourselves. Lydgate park for good snorkelling only 5 minute walk up beach. Public golf course minutes down the road. 5 minute drive to grocery store, Snorkel Bob's, etc. Plastic lounge chair on deck was cracked but usable, screen on door slightly pulled away from frame but still kept bugs out. Stayed cool with outdoor temps 75-85 degrees. Our friends' condo had extra beach chairs and coolers so we shared but would recommend buying or renting them for daytrips or hanging on the beach. Wish we could have stayed longer!

“Another great stay at Kapaa Shore #118” This was our second time staying in #118 at Kapaa Shore resort. We absolutely loved it. The room was clean and comfortable. The location was perfect. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our only complaint was that there are no BBQ utensils in the kitchen. We did buy some last year and left them there. But other than that we love #118.

“A very charming and relaxing cottage!” We were so happy to find the Hibiscus Hula Beach Cottage It was exactly what we were looing for! We wanted to find a cottage or cabin instead of the resorts- somehere with more privacy It was perfect! The cottage was very charming with all the amendities It was very clean, simply furnished with a full kitchen - we cooked most of our meals there! Every morning we sat on the front porch drinking coffee looking out to the ocean as the sun rose at night we slept with roar of the ocean and woke up to the crowing of the chickens It was so relaxing!

“Great views and location” Pono Kai is a lovely resort in a very convenient location. This particular unit had a gorgeous oceanfront view and stepped out onto a lawn fronting the ocean. Easy walking to Kapaa town, shops and restaurants, centrally located on island, and an amazing walking/biking path along the ocean right at the unit (bike rentals nearby). Good beaches are walking distance or a short drive depending on what you are looking for. C101, the unit we stayed in, was decorated nicely and had everything we needed. One caveat- it's described as sleeping 6, but the sofa bed, while it's a fine couch, is a miserable place to sleep. Even after removing the mattress from the frame and putting it on the floor, the hard lumpy springs made sleeping very difficult. I'd call this a "sleeps 4" situation until they replace the bed with something comfortable like a murphy bed. Visitors should also know there is no air conditioning, which is normally fine if you have the door open. Pono Kai staff are nice folks, but since this is not a Pono Kai rental, you will get no help from them and no maid service, pool towels etc. The pool is nice, the landscaping beautiful, and it's very family friendly. If you are below the 3rd floor, you may find the guests above you sound like stampeding elephants, and bring earplugs for the wild chickens that start crowing at 1 am.
