Cedar Key holidays

Cedar Key, Florida

If you're looking for a beach holiday that’s out of the ordinary, Cedar Key in Florida is the place to go.

Rent a Cedar Key house on stilts from Holiday Lettings and watch the Gulf of Mexico lapping at the pavement. There's nothing quite like it!

About Cedar Key, Florida

Cedar Key is a cluster of islands that’s not too far from mainland Florida. It's claimed that humans lived here as far back as 500 BC – no doubt they enjoyed the sun and sand, too!

Fast forward a few thousand years and Cedar Key played an important part in the American Civil War. You can still see remnaants of this today.

Now, Cedar Key is an old fishing village turned tourist hotspot! There's plenty to see and do here (if you want). Some people prefer just to relax on the beach and let the world go by.

While you're here, you have to try some of the seafood – it's freshly caught and absolutely delicious!

There's so much to love about this quaint, old fashioned Floridian holiday spot, our bet is that you'll keep coming back for more!

What to do

See ancient artefacts – and some that are a little more recent – in the Cedar Key Museum State Park. You'll be able to explore the history of the area. And, don't worry – you're not too far from the beach.

The beach is a great spot to spend your day. The pure white sand stretches around the island and absorbs the gorgeous summer sun. Throughout the year, Cedar Keys is never cold – it reaches highs of 85 F and lows of 68 F.

If you're a fan of nature, go fishing off one of the piers or ask a local for their favourite spot. Go hiking through the nature reserves and watch dolphins diving in the waters surrounding the island.

Try kayaking during your stay to see the islands from a totally new perspective.

Top Cedar Key travel tips

Cedar Key is home to two major festivals each year – the Spring Sidewalk Art Festival and the Fall Seafood Festival. Both are fantastic, so try to time your trip to catch one of them (or, come for both!).

There's no need for a car on this island – even the police don't have them. They just use jazzed-up golf carts!

For a laid-back Floridian holiday, there's really no place better than Cedar Key – especially if you like a little bit of history.

Book your Cedar Key holiday rental on Holiday Lettings today, start packing that suitcase and planning your ideal getaway!
