“great holiday in Birkirkara” The apartment where we stayed was really big, with lots of fornitures (there is also an hairdryer) and two showers. Also the bedroom is really spacious and well decorated. The flat is located in the center of the village, near several bus stopes that lead you to all the part of the island.Mark, the owner of the flat, is a very nice person, really helpful and can give you lots of advices about where to go and what to visit. I really recommend the stay in this flat!
=== Our Host ===
Mark was *absolutely brilliant*. He went above and beyond for my boyfriend and I, when he didn't even need to. We really felt like someone had our back if something went wrong, and it did. But thanks to Mark he rescued us (more below).
We were welcomed upon exiting the taxi, Mark led us to the flat showed us around and we sat down in the kitchen. He is incredibly friendly, down to earth and more than helpful.
He gave us fantastic tips about Malta and places to see.
Mark saved us on more than one occasion; he printed out out boarding passes, organised a taxi and even supported us when the taxi arrived extremely late. He genuinely cared for us.
=== The Apartment ===
The apartment was great, MUCH bigger than expected. It has a retro and artsy vibe to it. It fits with the general area of the neighbourhood.
No complaints whatsoever; water runs, and its hot, and the Wifi is strong ... that's what matters, right?
The apartment is one of four in the building. Above lives a guy called "Nikki" and gave us a lighter which we needed for the flat, he was very friendly. Next door is a family whom are friendly and keep to themselves. No noise complaints at all.
=== Neighbourhood ===
At a glance Birkirkara looks rather run-down in most areas, there are many places for sale and it seems rather quiet, however it definitely feels safe. Once you get to know Malta you realise that Birkirkara isn't run-down; it looks like an average town in Malta.( I now use the term "authentic" rather than "run-down")
Whats good about the area is that its not a touristy area or tourist attraction, everywhere else is!
Don't be worried about it being in the middle of the island or outside of the capitol (like I was); the buses are regular and take you everywhere (1.50 EUR for a day ticket).
Tip: GET A CAR! You get to see a lot more of the island in your own time, prices are good.
=== Shops ===
There is a supermarket 10-15 mins away by foot, its HUGE and has everything. Nearest corner shop is 5 - 10 mins walk away.
There is also a Costa Coffee 5 mins away
=== Conclusion ===
Mark is awesome, helpful and a great guy. The apartment is huge and greatly situated
Thanks again Mark for being a wonderful host, thanks for all the help! We were lucky to have you. …
