The # 1 Best Small Towns to Visit in 2014
Welcome to the Chautauqua County # . Google The Smithsonian 20 best small towns to visit this year. We are # 1
Chautauqua County, located in the westernmost part of New York State, is a resort area centered around famed Chautauqua Lake. Its western border is Lake Erie.
The County lies approximately 70 miles southwest of Buffalo, 50 miles northeast of Erie, PA and is served by the major airports in those cities as well as the Chautauqua County Airport. Interstate routes I-86 and I-90 connect with major eastern, Canadian and western cities and markets.
Our climate is varied, parts being tempered by Lake Erie and parts at higher altitudes providing cool summers and snow cover for three major ski resort areas. Our average summer temperature is 77 degrees and our winters average 32 degrees.
It is home to the world famed Chautauqua Institution and four other major resort and vacation regions, providing a wide variety of spring, summer, fall and winter activities. One can find boating, fishing, hiking, downhill skiing, X-country skiing, cycling, snowmobiling, Amish handicrafts, hunting, antiquing, concerts, and art shows to name a few!
Some say Chautauqua (shah tau' qua) is a Seneca Indian name meaning "Bag Tied in the Middle". A look at the map shows the name fits the lake. It is 17.3 miles long and boasts some of the best fishing opportunities in the country whether you're a novice or an avid angler. Bass, muskie, walleye, perch, and crappie are just some you will pull in.
Here you will also find some of the most affordable housing in the country, as well as excellent schools and universities, museums, churches and a wholesome life style supported through agriculture, manufacturing, education and a cultural heritage-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not too early for summer reservations! PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS HOME IS NOT ON the lake but less than 5 minutes away by car.
3 BEDROOM COUNTRY HOUSE with incredible VIEWS of CHAUTAUQUA LAKE. Just a short drive to the lake and 15 minutes to Chautauqua Institution make this an incredible bargain to the summer guests. Admission to the grounds in summer is free on Sundays, and children 12 and younger are always admitted free. Also, on weekly Community Appreciation Nights, a $20 ticket to an evening concert includes access to the facilities from 4 p.m. to midnight. Outside the summer season, access to the grounds is free. Though the Institution is the main attraction in town, there are many other things to see and do in this lakeside community and the surrounding areas.
Home is fully furnished and comfortably sleeps 7 people. Situated on approximately 1 acre of land and next door to a horse farm and riding stable.

You can expect to find great local restaurants, many antique shops, village Casino restaurant located on the lake, many small boutiques,deli/grocery store, ice cream shop, bait and tackle shops, local produce stands.
The many attractions include but not limited to Chautauqua Lake, Chautauqua Institution, boating, jet skiing, fishing, Amish village, city of Jamestown -home of Lucille Ball, Baseball games- home of Jamestown Jammers, Long Point State Park, Midway Park , Tour of Westfield Wineries and local Brewery in Lakewood.
My home is unique because it is located in the most beautiful country setting Lake/farm combination but yet less than 5 minute drive to the village of Bemus Point and the Lake and Long Point State Park. Most of all its an incredible value for the area at $1,000 per week for up to 7 people or $1,800 per month. Holidays are slightly higher.
