Situated on a cliff at the north end of Kuruwitu Marine Conservancy, the house enjoys lovely views and gentle breezes. Tastefully furnished and comfortable. It has a mature garden and a fun sundowner deck just above the Indian Ocean. There is a gorgeous 12 x 6m infinity pool with a stunning pool house. There is a cook, a housekeeper, a groundsman and a maintenance person. The house has good security. Staff quarters can accommodate one extra if required. Another 2 people can be accommodated on the roof or in the sitting room if required at a small additional charge although better for youngsters rather than adults. Direct beach access at low - mid tide. Steps to beach steep for the elderly and not suitable for the infirm.
I need to clarify as a couple of guests have indicated they were disappointed the jacuzzi was not working. The small plunge pool on the lower deck is an overflow pool and we have never advertised that there is a jacuzzi.

The master bedroom has its own sectioned off veranda as well as a nook with a desk and an extra bed. This room has overhead fans as well as a standing fan. The middle bedroom has a double bed but there is plenty of room for a cot.. The rear bedroom has 3 single beds as well as fans. Both these bedrooms have air-conditioning. There is a small TV with a DVD player in this room. There is a selection of kid and adult movies that can be borrowed. All bedrooms are ensuite with large bathrooms with showers.
There is a wi-fi box which works with pre-paid Safaricom scratch-cards - these are readily available from all towns and villages.
The sitting/dining area is big and very airy with good security wrought iron all around. It is tastefully furnished in a coastal style with wooden overhead fans and 'lamu beds' as sofa's. There is a games chest with scrabble, poker etc.
The kitchen is relatively small compared to the rest of the house and is manned by Reuben who is a competent cook specialising in seafood, curries and swahili style cooking. Pili is the housekeeper and takes care of the laundry and general cleaning. There is a large open roof area with sofa beds perfect for having an afternoon snooze.
|Further details outdoors|
The 12 x 6m infinity pool is set about 20 mts from the house but has its own large pool house with bar, drinks fridge, BBQ, sofa bed, chairs and dining table. It does not have a toilet as we are not allowed to build one so close to sea. There is a water feature and sunbeds. The pool has an adjoining 'baby pool'. The terrace below the pool with the plunge pool is not safe for small and unaccompanied children. The garden is large and shady with an attractive table and chairs set under the Neem Tree. On the left of the stairs going down to the beach is a lovely sundowner deck perfect for watching the waves at high tide or trying to spot the humpback whales beyond the nearby reef.
There is an indemnity form that must be filled when entering the house. Although it is a great place for kids, care must be taken on the various decks, the rooftop and the floors can be slippery when wet. There are a good many decorative items in the house and we expect clients to take good care of the furnishings and the little things that make it special.
The Coast Province region
The Kenyan coast is famous for its beauty and history, but is often overlooked by visitors because the country is more famous for its wildlife. The beaches are beautiful, the sea is warm, the diving spectacular and the people are friendly. There are excellent and reasonably priced restaurants and lots of water sports. Climate is generally hot and humid but rarely unpleasant.
Located 40 min north of historic Mombasa, the house has direct access on to the beautiful, safe and unspoilt shoreline of the Kiruwitu Marine Conservancy which offers fantastic swimming and snorkelling. The Conservancy offers: boat rides to spot dolphins or go fishing outside the reef/glass bottom boat/guided walks to the reef. Fishermen bring freshly caught seafood to the door. Vipingo Village stocks basic household items (7 min drive). Vipingo Ridge (10 minutes) has a stunning clubhouse with a restaurant on its world class golf course. Mtwapa Creek and Nyali Beach (30-35 min) both offer good restaurants, night life, scuba diving, medical centres, supermarkets, water sports and alternative entertainment such as the Bamburi Nature trail, a water park, a cinema complex and a casino. Kilifi Creek (15 min) has deep sea fishing, dhow sundowner cruises and The Boatyard is a popular place for lunch. However, once at Neem Tree its unlikely you will want to go anywhere.

"viscerally serene and emotionally stimulating"
The serenity of the infinity pool set against the ocean’s shifting tides and the subtle transitions of blue skies on the broad horizon was sublime. Steps carved out of the cliff offer an extraordinary gateway to the exquisite natural landscape of tidal pools and coral reef filled with vibrant color and texture. In an atmosphere both secluded and welcoming, the home’s friendly caretakers and cook are accommodating yet discrete, and the fabulous owner-supplied music-mixes set a tone for relaxation, enjoyment, and celebration of life. Never have we felt so disconnected from our responsibilities back home, and we are deeply appreciative that our family had the opportunity to experience some of the extraordinary beauty of Kenya through the lens that Neem Tree offers. Rob and Lyndsey are warm, sincere people who seem to conduct their lives with unwavering natural integrity.

"The greatest vacation ever!"
My family loved it here we had a fun & relaxing holiday. The property looks exactly as advertised. We would have loved to enjoy the jacuzzi but it was out of order hopefully, when we return it will be in working order. The staff is amazing. They were respectful, hardworking & always willing to assist. A great team led by Reuben who was fantastic & a great cook. we are definitely returning & recommending this holiday home to our friends & family.
Am delighted you had such a good time. However, there seems to be some misunderstanding with regards to a 'jacuzzi'. We have never advertised that we have a jacuzzi - we have never installed one. Quite some time ago the plunge 'overflow' pool was advertised as heated and perhaps if you had read about the house several months before your booking, that is where the misunderstanding arose. We put in solar panels with the intention of heating this small pool, but it has not really worked unfortunately. Anyway, I do apologise for the disappointment and will make sure that it is clear that there is no jacuzzi to all future guests. We hope to welcome you back in the not too distant future.

Neem Tree is a holiday let with a difference. I have stayed in many rentals and this is a unique home, home being the operative word as this character house is furnished to the highest standards and as soon as you walk in it has a feeling of being lived in and has many personal touches, reflecting the owners good taste. I have just spent a month in the house on my own and could not have picked a more delightful place to stay. The garden is a haven, having many mature trees and shrubs attracting much wildlife. The newly constructed pool and pool house are superb and the views are impressive. The pool is maintained daily to a very high standard. The many rock pools on the beach and out on the reef offer many hours of exploring and extraordinary sea life. Reuben, Pili and Emmanuel are dedicated staff and cannot do enough to please, they made me so welcome and looked after me thoughout my stay impeccably. This is a fairly remote spot and if you are seeking peace and solitude, this is what you will get although saying that I can imagine it is a wonderful place for a family with children. Only ate out once at The Vipingo Ridge with friends and I can recommend, lovely setting and very reasonable. Having spoken to other guests who have stayed at Neem Tree and many other properties in the area over many years, they stated that Neem Tree was the best.

"Stunning location, far away from the mad mad world, I wanted to stay forever"
A lovely house, it was so nice to stay in a rented house that was properly furnished with good taste and not full of old bits of furniture "incase they get spoilt by holiday makers", we felt completely at home during our one week stay. The swimming pool is gorgeous with a view over the ocean. We particularly enjoyed snorkelling as the whole of the beach infront of the house is protected marine land and we saw so many different types of fish, it was like swimming in a giant aquarium. The staff in the house are kind and although they seem to move at a slow "coast" pace we never lacked for anything. Rueben, the cook, makes a delicious prawns in coconut curry (he gave me the recipe but I doubt if mine will be anywhere near as good). We had the local fishermen bringing fresh fish to our doorstep nearly every day. We had a lovely holiday and will definately be back.
