The Old Pumphouse
These outbuildings used to house the pumps to draw water from a well into a large basin for the irrigation of the surrounding fields. The basin has been removed and the building has been converted into a luxury, air conditioned, four bedroom bungalow .
The house consists of :
- A large living/dining/open kitchen area with views of the magnificent Canigou mountain at the back, french doors to a private patio area at the front. The kitchen is equipped with electric oven, hob, microwave oven, fridge, dishwasher etc.. In the lounge, there is a Stereo TV with reception of the standard french channels as well as a Sky Satellite receiver for the free-to-view channels , FM radio and DVD/Divx/CD/MP3 player (we have a DVD library for your use ).
- Two bedrooms with double beds, both with french doors opening unto the garden.
- One bedroom with twin beds
- One small bedroom with bunk beds

It is on the edge of the village of villelongue de la salanque which is a quaint old french village totally untouched by the tourism that surrounds it. The pretty village of canet-en-roussillon is only a couple of miles away. The location of the mas is ideal as despite being in the heart of the country surrounded by farms and vineyards it is close to the sandy beaches of the cote vermeille with the resorts of canet and st. Marie just a few minutes away. It is also close to the cosmopolitan city of perpignan (only a few minutes drive) and to all the major link roads to take you up to the mountains or down to Spain.
There is a shopping center with a hypermarket just about 5 minutes awayat the mas there are three houses: the owners house built where the stables used to be, the original farmhouse and the converted pumphouse. They share the large grounds including the large swimming pool (13 x 7 m) with a spring board for diving into the 3m deep end. There is a shower room and laundry room for communal use in the grounds. There is a childrens play area, a badmington/volleyball net and a pingpong table to entertain children as well as teenagers and the not so young. It is a very safe place for children as it is set well away from the road and there are plenty of safe gardens for them to play in.each of the properties however has its own patio with outdoor eating area, bbq , lounge chairs etc..
all outdoor maintenance, daily pool cleaning, etc.. is taken care of by the owners. A wifi signal for a broadband connection is available in both houses and by the pool for sending/receiving emails, checking flights etc.. on the owners laptop or your own if you brought one. an excellent location for exploring the coast and the pyrenees mountains or simply relaxing in a delightful setting.
The Old Farmhouse
The old farmhouse has been tastefully modernised to combine its' original character with modern practicalities. It still has the original catalan tiled floors and has a large kitchen equipped with gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher, american fridge/freezer, microwave etc. with a spacious dining area opening onto the terrace. There is a large living room with a Stereo TV with reception of the standard french channels as well as a Sky Satellite receiver for the free-to-view channels and DVD/CD/MP3 player (we have a DVD library for your use) and an open fire for winter visitors to enjoy.
On the first floor there are three large double bedrooms and a shower room. There is an additional wc and wash basin downstairs and an additional shower room in the grounds by the swimming pool.
The terrace is filled with mature trees and shrubs and has a shaded outdoor eating area shown on the picture to the left.

The Roussillon area of France is the most southern and the sunniest part of France. It is a beautiful region, marked by the variety and contrast of its landscape : to the south the beaches give way to rocky bays and traditional fishing harbours around Collioure, Port Vendres and Spain beyond; To the west, the vineyards and fruit tree farms of the Tech and Têt Valleys lead up to the massif du Canigou the peak of which (at about 2785m high) is snow capped most of the year and visible from all along the coast.

We have travelled to this area - where we have family - for some years and over the years have made a number of close friends. The warm welcome we received was outstanding and throughout our stay we found we could always given helpful and practical advice over shops, restaurants, etc and suggestions for all sorts of places to visit. This is a rural situation with wonderful views, especially of the Canigou, but at the same time there are all sorts of lovely towns within short driving distances, while Perpignan, more-or-less "on the doorstep" is a lovely city with every possible facility. |

The hosts and family to the newly built "pumphouse" are very welcoming and friendly and were very informed about what to do and where to go. The swimming pool and patio area are fantastic as are the various fruit trees, which are in abundance - freshly picked and squeezed orange juice 10 metres away!!! We would recommend this to anyone especially families. |
