Home description
The original stone dwelling was a farm in the 1900s. In 1999 it was rebuilt around the two remaining original stone walls. The final result is a charming stone cottage with a private garden. The house has three floors. As you walk in you come into a large living room with an open fireplace. Three steps down take you into a fully-equipped independent kitchen which leads onto the dining room for indoor dining. A short passage takes you to the bathroom fitted with bathtub and shower as well as a bidet. A staircase in the living room takes you up to the two spacious bedrooms. One has a king-size double bed and one single. The other room has three single beds.

The Costa de Prata/Silver Coast region
The Ribatejo region has traditionally been an agricultural area with many vineyards. The river Tagus and Zêzere flow through the area and the latter was flooded in the '50s to create Castelo do Bode, a huge reservoir that provides water to most of the Lisbon area. Above the dam the Castelo do Bode lake lies nestled in a valley full of pine and eucalyptus forests dotted with isolated villages. The valley is a secluded area popular for boating, fishing and watersports Being Portugal, it can be quite wet but the climate is generally quite mild although July and August can get quite hot.
Tomar / Serra area
The house is right by the Lake Castelo do Bode (Castle of the Billygoat) .The area is very green and the countryside is extremely peaceful. There are plenty of fluvial beaches - the water is very clean, ideal for swimming and certainly good for cooling off in the summer. There are also many tracks ideal for cyclists and walkers and certainly a good way to explore the surrounding area. Tomar, the historical town of the Order of the Templars is a short drive away. The Convent of Christ on the hilltop is a must. The Sanctuary of Fátima, holy place of pilgrimage is around 30kms away. Castelo de Almoural, set on a tiny island of the Tagus was built as a fortress in 1171. Lovely spot for a picnic. Torres Novas has many fine churches within its castle walls. The house is a great base for those wishing to visit the Marion Shrine of Fatima (30kms) or attend the annual Horse Fair in Golega in November.
How to get there
Most budget airlines fly into Lisboa and Porto (Easyjet, Monarch Airlines, Ryanair, Air Berlin, German Wings, Vueling, etc.). Most hire car companies are represented in both airports and cheap deals can be found easily on the internet.
If coming from Lisbon, take the A1 north. Exit at km93 for A23 for Torres Novas. Take exit for IC3 in the direction of Tomar Take the exit at Castelo do Bode, Albufeira At the junction turn left in the direction of Serra In Serra main square turn right and follow directions to Venda At junctions always keep right and eventually you will reach Casa de Pedra

Guestbook for Casa de Pedra
"Great rustic spot to relax and enjoy the country, owner was very friendly and wonderful to deal with. Thanks for everything." JD, Canada, July 07
"une maison de style traditonnelle trés bien équipée,décorée avec goût et sens de l'accueil.Des informations riches et variées sur l'environnement." SE, France, July 07
"Nous avons beaucoup apprécié cette jolie maison très agréable et très bien équipée. La maison est située tout près du lac dans un cadre magnifique. " SZ, France, August 07
"We greatly enjoyed our stay at Casa de Pedra. We loved sitting in the square in Serra, particularly on a Sunday morning and Tomar is very pretty and interesting." AG, UK, September 2007
GL, France, November 07
"The property was clean and well presented with everything provided in the house for our use and comfort. The location and surroundings were just perfect for the kind of holiday that we enjoy and the comprehensive information provided by the owner on cafes, walks and places to vist was most helpful. We would have no hesitation in recommending to a friend (as long as they love peace and quiet and enjoy wonderful scenery)and we would love to return again one day." BJ, UK, May 2008
