Hisa nad Baco is a beautifully restored village house with lots of character. It is located in Podmelec, a traditional Slovene village close to both Most na Soci and Tolmin.

It is a perfect base for those wishing to explore the Soca and Baska Grapa regions and take part in the varied outdoor activities available in the local area or simply just to relax and unwind!

It is luxuriously appointed with all modern conveniences and a large sunny south east facing balcony. On street parking is possible both in front of the house and under a tree less than 20 metres away (see photo).

Hisa nad Baco is suitable for singles, couples, families or groups of up to 5 -7 persons. It has a large dual aspect master bedroom with king-sized bed, a twin-bedded second bedroom and a convertible futon sofa in the lounge which sleeps 2. An additional inflatable single bed can be set up in either the lounge or one of the bedrooms. Alll bedrooms are equipped with quality antique furniture and have either full or partial mountain views.

All of the original features of the house have been retained, such as exposed ceiling beams, original sanded doors and flooring, there is a wood burning stove and a modern fitted kitchen with granite work surface, dishwasher etc. The dining room seats 6-8 persons. There is a luxury bathroom with separate bath / shower / and also a separate cloakroom.

Parking is available in front of the house and in the village under a tree 20 metres away. The village is quiet and vehicular movements are minimal.

The Goriska region

Goriška is a traditional region in western Slovenia on the border with Italy. The name means "the Gorizia region" because it is named after Gorizia, Italy. It is part of the wider traditional region of the Slovenian Littoral (Primorska). Its principal urban center is Nova Gorica. It is entirely included in the Goriška statistical region.

Before World War I, the region was part of the Austrian County of Gorizia and Gradisca, with Gorizia as its capital. Following World War I, the area was annexed by the Kingdom of Italy, where it was included in the Julian March administrative region. During the fascist regime it was submitted to a violent policy of Italianization. After World War II, the present borders were established: most of the Slovene-inhabited areas of Gorizia and Gradisca were ceded to the Yugoslav republic of Slovenia, while the town of Gorizia and some surrounding villages were left in Italy.

The region encompasses the municipalities of Bovec, Kobarid, Tolmin, Cerkno, Idrija, Kanal ob Soci, Brda, Nova Gorica, Šempeter-Vrtojba, Rence-Vogrsko, Miren-Kostanjevica, Ajdovšcina, and Vipava. The municipalities of Komen and Sežana also used to be part of the Gorizia region, but are now usually considered part of the Littoral-Kras statistical region.

Tolmin

The location of Podmelec and the surrounding areas can only be described as magical, unspoilt and pristine. Wildlife and a variety of outdoor attractions and activities are abundant close by, in particular; paragliding, cycling, mountain biking, trekking, bird watching and hunting. The house lies at 305m above sea level in the foothills of the Julian Alps.

The village itself is situated above the Baca River, an established and popular fly fishing destination (the Idrijca and Soca rivers are also close by). The Slap Sopota waterfall (66m) is within walking distance of the village. The edge of the Triglav National Park can be reached within a 15 minute drive time. Convenience stores and shops are available close by in both Tolmin and Most na Soci.

"A very relaxing time in a lovely refurbished period house in a quiet village setting."

We were greeted by the owner who made us very welcome and explained how everything worked. Whilst the house is in the centre of the village, we weren't troubled at all by noise either in the day or in the evening, helped with we think by the thickness of the old stone walls. The local Slovenes we spoke were fantastic and we found ourself most nights enjoying a meal and glass of wine on the balcony. The house has a lot of character and original features, although we didn't need to use the wood burner in the lounge! The kitchen has everything you need, with a dishwasher and large fridge. We would have no hesitation in recommending to others.
