The Loire Valley / Sarthe region
Often referred to as 'Garden of France' the Loire Valley is a colourful tapestry of vineyards, flowers and rolling green hills dotted with hundreds of castles and chateaux.
Whilst on holiday in the Loire Valley, marvel at the famous medieval cathedral of Chartres or Chambord, the largest of the Loire Valley castles. Historic cities such as Orleans, Bourges and Tours have much to tempt holiday visitors, as does the regional cuisine that makes the most of the rich farm fresh produce.
Le Mans race circuit is legendary for its racing events such as the 24 hr race and The Le Mans Classic car race, not forgetting the museum.
Sarthe is a great place for golfing, having some of the most beautiful and natural courses.
There are animal parks and gardens, some are the grounds of the most beautiful Chateaux that are predominant in this region

One of Frances' top zoos at Parc Zoologique de La Fleche, is definitely worth a visit. The park is ideal for a family day out with cafes and attractive riverside setting. Over 1,200 animals from all over the world can be observed in their natural surroundings from polar bears underwater to elephants in the African savannah.
See tigers, Chinese pandas and more. The zoo is known for its amazing shows with sea-lions, parrots, and falconry displays on horseback. Open daily all year and only approximately 45 mins drive just outside Le Mans.

St-Ceneri-le-Gerei (6km) is found in the Orne department of Normandy to the south-west of Alencon.
A very pretty village in a lovely wooded setting on a bend in the River Sarthe in the heart of southern Normandy, Saint Ceneri is classified as a 'most beautiful village of France'.
The village is very popular with artists, drawn by the unspoiled character of the village and several artists have established galleries and workshops here.
There are some pretty houses along the river banks - the two banks are joined by an old bridge.
The village has an attractive 11th century romanesque style church, with some notable frescoes, and pretty views down the river valley. There is also a very little 15th century chapel.
Nearby the Gardens at La Mansoniere are also recommended, with several different 'garden rooms' to be explored.

I would highly recommend this gite. Jackie and Tony are very welcoming and are on hand for anything you need. The play area for the kids is amazing which meant we could relax a bit especially with the cider we were given! Inside the gite is great and the photos online dont do it justice We will be rebooking here again as we liked it so much. Thanks Jackie and Tony. |

On arrival we were greeted by Jackie, Tony, Harry (& Buddy who soon became Banjo's (our Parson Russel Terrier's best friend!) After a very warm welcome(which included fresh bread, cheese, milk AND wine!) we were left to settle in. Maison Ensoleillee was a home from home- clean, contemporary & comfortable - high praise indeed from the fussiest person on earth (or so I'm told!) ! We had chosen to mainly eat in the gite and I was happy to find the kitchen very well equipped. As there was a washing machine too I decided to do a daily wash which avoided the post holiday mountain - heaven!! There is an iron and ironing board but I thought ironing a step too far - I was on holiday afterall! All of the rooms in the gite are spacious. The beds very comfortable, a little too comfortable, as I found my usual 6.30am start now a 10.30 start! Aside from the bed I am sure much was to do with the beautiful, tranquil surroundings. Our late lie in meant that we missed the croissants in the local Boulangerie - but if you are an early riser the bakery is just a short country stroll away. Maison Ensoleillee is ideally located to visit many beautiful villages & soak up the culture. Alternatively you can take a drive out to many local attractions as mentioned on the web site of Maison Ensoleillee - Zoo La Fleche, Disneyland.... We would definitely stay here again - mainly due to the fact that Jackie & Tony are such lovely people - they make you feel so welcome. They are always on hand if you need any advice on where to go or any other questions youmay have. |

We have just returned home having spent almost 2 fantastic weeks at Maison Ensoleillee. It is a truly delightful place to stay and the owners, Jackie and Tony were so helpful - above and beyond the call of duty! We travelled with our 2 young children aged 2 and 5 and both had a brilliant time - great play facilities and they also got to feed the chickens and play with the family pet rabbit! We have come home with some lovely memories. As we were with the children, our holiday centred around keeping them happy and they were! The property is about an hour away from a lovely zoo and also papea parc in Le Mans made for a great day out. There are some lovely villages nearby with nice places to eat and the nearby town of Alencon is just a 10 minute drive away with plenty of shops and restaurants to cater for every need! Have a feeling we will go back - if our 2 girls have anything to do with it we will! |
