The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Var region
Provence is the stunningly beautiful south-eastern region of France by the Mediterranean coast next to Italy and is commonly known as the Cote D’Azur.
Provence attracts visitors to almost 300 days of sunshine annually. Boasting hot dry summers and mild winters, this is the main pull for foreign visitors escaping for short breaks or week stays.
The biggest and most popular attractions are the cities of Nice and Cannes and the surrounding small villages in the mountains. Monte Carlo is also very near with its jet-set lifestyle, casinos and great restaurants.
The Ste Maxime / Domaine des Collines de Guerrevieille area
The Villa
Ideally located in the quiet domaine, you can choose to spend a peaceful day at the villa or explore the local villages of St Tropez, Post Grimaud, Cogolin or Ste Maxime.
Ste Maxime Town
Ste Maxime is a pleasant old town with a palm tree lined promenade, cobbled streets and a wealth of lively and reputable restaurant and bars to choose from. La Reserve and La Maison Bleu are both bustling and popular haunts for the locals and tourists and are very family orientated. Popular bars include Le Wafou and the Café de France – both great places for relaxing, enjoying a glass of rose and watching the world go by!
Attractions nearby
St Tropez is less than half an hour (though in the height of summer this can vary and a recommendation would be to take the boat from Ste Maxime - this operates regularly during the season – no traffic and you enjoy the views at the same time!).
It is very much a main attraction of the area with its ocean going yachts, quayside artists and non-stop fashion parade. It is particularly well served with boutiques, a lively, twice-weekly market (Saturdays and Tuesdays) and many restaurants.
It can be expensive to eat out especially near the quayside but there still remains some relatively cheap places that will suit all tastes, especially Pizza Bruno just one street back from the main port.
Love it or hate it, the St Tropez experience is almost a must for anyone visiting the area.
Touring and Beaches
Port Grimaud, situated at the head of the Golfe de Ste Tropez, is called the Venice of France. Although relatively modern it has been built in traditional Provencal style. You can hire small boats or take the waterbus to see the village from the water.
Or there are the superb beaches of Pampelonne (where you can mingle with the rich and famous), Cap d’Esterill and Cavalaire, as well as all the beaches on either side of Ste Maxime.
Sport and Shopping
There are numerous local attractions nearby: water sports, golf, riding, aqua parks, wine tasting, local markets etc. The hill top villages of Plan de la Tour, Ramatuelle and Grimaud with their fine restaurants are all nearby and offer spectacular views of the Golfe de St Tropez, or the magical beauty of the Provencal countryside, or travel to Cannes, Nice, Monte Carlo or even Italy!

I would says - a little distance from St maxime ( actually outside the town) and lots of traffic , therefore we didn't go to St maxime as much as we would have liked. Very lasrge pool - but quite buy during the day ( nice an empty after 6:30), nice tennis courts. The villas was lovely but very hot, only one fan worked properly, a?c would have been good, but the weather was very hot 36 degrees. small but well appointed kitchen, nice outdoor furniture - an outside light would have been helpful. The views were amazing. a nice beach on the way to St Maxime - free parking. |

We stayed at Failte during the last week of August 2012, travelling with my partner and our three children (10, 8 and 4), and it has been one of the best holidays we've ever experienced. The villa is located in a gated complex about 20 minutes walk from the stunning beaches at the foot of the hill, or about 3-5 minutes drive in a car - advisable if your children (like ours) don't want to walk back up the hill after spending all day in the sea! The villa itself is in excellent condition, forming part of a small, private terraced row of houses, with a patio overlooking the stunning view and bay between St Maxime and St Tropez. There is a new bathroom, electric fans in both the bedrooms, a fully fitted and funished kitchen and dining area, and the internal structure of exposed wooden beams and white walls is striking. A stone spiral staircase leads down from the front door level (upon which the toilet, bathroom and two bedrooms can be found) to the kitchen and living area (wherein lies the sofa bed) and out on to the patio. Some 5 minutes walk away from the villa are the swimming pool and sunloungers, or the tennis courts if that's your preferance, with an attractive clubhouse looking down from the hill - all within the confines of the complex and safe from the general public. It is about a 20-minute walk from the beaches at the foot of the hill into St Maxime town itself, and I would thoroughly recommend catching the regular ferries across to St Tropez itself. While we were five in our party, I don't think we ever felt cramped in the accomodation and the owners have maintained the villa to a high standard and with helpful utensils in the kitchen. It would be hard to find fault with any aspect of our holiday, and I would recommend this accomodation to family, friends and anyone interested in a lovely holiday in the sunshine at a competitive price without hesitation. |

Just got back from a lovely holiday in Ste Maxime. We have been there many times before and love the area. In particular, it is a great place for a holiday with children but with plenty of things for grown ups to enjoy as well. The villa is in a quiet spot a few minutes drive along the coastal road on the way out of Ste Maxime heading towards Port Grimaud and St Tropez. It is very well equipped, well maintained and has lovely views over the bay of St Tropez. In particular, there is a lovely terrace - perfect for big breakfasts and lounging around. There are lots of lovely beaches nearby - some excellent ones around Ste Maxime, and the famous Pampelonne beach just outside St Tropez. Ste Maxime has lots of excellent shops and restaurants, and a lovely night market. The nearby hilltop villages of Ramatuelle, Gassin and Grimaud are well worth a visit. The daily markets are also excellent - St Tropez and Ramatuelle in particular. The bateau vert is by far the best way to get to St Tropez, especially as the coastal road gets very congested in high season. |
