The Umbria region
Umbria is the land of Saints of medieval towns.
Umbria is true Italian countryside, explore the beauty of Umbria from a rental home surrounded by vineyards and hill towns such as Perugia, Orvieto, Assisi, Todi & Spoleto. Typical Umbria villas
Our apartment in Umbria is found on working vineyards, wineries and olive groves or in charming Umbrian hill towns and villages
There also are great natural beauties like.Lakes, Marmore' Falls, Mountains, Hills, Abbey.....
The hamlet is the best way to visit our wonderful historic towns :Spoleto, Todi Orvieto, Assisi, Perugia
and our great natural wonder. Marmore falls, the mounth of Castelluccio, The road Valnerina
Our hamlet is for people who love walking trekking and good food and wine.
Nestling amongst the hills of southern Umbria, Messenano is the perfect place to relax whilst enjoying the delights of the region.
Below the village is a small lake that offers fishing or a peaceful place for a picnic. Walk the hills, taking in the views of woodland and olive groves and the only sound to disturb you will be birdsong.
To stay in Messenano is to be part of a traditional community. Only a few of its houses have been renovated as tourist lets or weekend retreats. The rest are homes to the 40 or so farmers who work the fields, olive groves and vineyards surrounding the village.
The area has a sense of timeless tranquillity.
Once the site of a 13th century castle, the village is unique in that it is constructed from the remains of the castle itself. The defensive walls, sporting one remaining tower, now surround the modern settlement. Walk the narrow, twisting streets and you walk the passageways of the old castle, past rooms that are now reformed into houses. The castle yard is now the village square, complete with a small 13th century church. The effect is quite uncanny, a blend of past and present.
For local dining, a restaurant is highly recommended. A uniquely Italian phenomenon, these working farms offer accommodation and meals for tourists. To qualify as an Agriturismo, only local produce can be served. So if not produced on the farm itself, you are guaranteed a typical regional meal, prepared from food that is sourced from within a few miles of the kitchen. Prices are very reasonable. The restauranti irs "the Prato" , a quiet farm in Messenano, will serve a three course meal and a jug of the local wine for about 15 euros.
SPOLETO is Art, Culture, Nature: past and present of a territory
... a town which is extraordinarily rich with historical evidences:
its monuments are all linked together in a continuum that knows no interruptions, from prehistoric age to the Lombards, from the Middle Ages to nowadays. It is unanimously acknowledged among the symbols of international culture. For this reason, it always takes one day more than planned, to discover it.
Upon arriving, you're soon hit by its cultural richness.
As you come from the South, you're soon welcomed by the majestic Ponte delle Torri and the mighty Rocca, sort of watchful lookout above the houses accumulated on the hill; on the right, set in the thick woods on the slopes of Monteluco, the church of San Pietro looks over the valley.
If you arrive by train, you're welcomed by Alexander Calder's Teodelapio instead. Given by the artist back in 1962, the statue was the first one to be built in such great proportion, and would eventually act as prototype for many other ones throughout the world. At the other end of the street, Arnaldo Pomodoro's "Colonna del Viaggiatore" (Voyager's Column) acts as opposite altar.
The visitor, hopefully not in a hurry, has four different itineraries to choose from, according to interests, needs, and available time. Having plenty of the latter, it will be possible to also visit the surroundings, dense with memories from the Roman age to the present days. It must not be forgotten that, thanks to its strategic position, Spoleto is the ideal base for daily excursions to the Valnerina or other areas of Umbria.

"A very nice holiday in authentic Umbria"
We realy enjoyed our stay in Giovanna's house in Messenano. Apart from ourselves there were only a few other tourist. So we were guest in a small village that has not been converted to a (small) tourist site. It was quite an experience to feel the italian way of life in a small country village. And the inhabitants of Messenano were very polite and helpfull.
The owner of Giovanna's house was more serviceminded than we could expect.
I am so happy that you get satisfaction.
I would like to say thank you.
I hope to meet you one again
