Enquire nowThe Transylvania region
Casa Roger just a short hop from the rural village of Loman is set in one of the most spectacular parts of Transylvania. Summers are very hot and winters white and crispy. This region in central Romania is becoming more popular day by day now that Romania is a fully fledged member of the EU
I consider Romania to be the jewel of Europe, then maybe I am biased as I have been travelling here for over two decades now. I think after your visit you too will think so and I guarentee you will get smitten with the desire to return to Romania again and again. - It is not possible to show volumes of photographs here but by logging onto FaceBook you will see my many albums of photographs taken throughout the area - Find FaceBook and look for Roger Quentin then enjoy so many lovely photographs of beautiful Romania you may just get smitten
The Sebes / Loman area
The village of Loman dates back some many hundreds of years and is Real Romania - None of the City stuff. You will see true Romania and experience the hospitality of one of the most friendly people in the whole of Europe. Send me an email and I will send you an invite to my facebook site with hundreds of pictures of real Romania. No time like the present email me now and take a journey through my many photos.
Loman makes a great base to explore Romania from - Why not visit the Red Lakes Lecu Rosu or why not take in Draculas Trail and visit Sigisoare, Sibiu and Bran near Brasov. Alba Julia not so far away makes a great day out concluding the day in the cellar restaurant within the bastion Pub 13. Visit the very many monesteries throughout the country. Even have a humble picnic or barbecue in some secluded spot and just kick back and take in the magnificent views. If you are into retail therapy then pop into Sebes and pick up some lovely ornaments or visit the local Thursday Market and for you youngsters pick up some denims I guarentee you have never seen such an array of denim. Leather also is very cheap. For photographers the photo opportunities are endless.

TRAVEL OPTIONS -
Flights with Wizz Air from Luton through to Targu Mures - Cheap as chips - Hire a car hassle free with English speaking staff at www.autonom.ro and enjoy your journey into location. I highly recommend the airport at Targu Mures (A very small airport with no waiting hassles) the journey from there is lovely passing through some lovely villages and no major cities to deal with. Arriving at Sebes via Alba Julia for your Meet & Greet with your host Roger. If you have a Sat Nav with Eastern Europe available on it then bring it with you you may find it useful rather than maps also a copy of Berlitz Romanian would be useful.
TAXIS
Registered taxis are available just outside the arrivals lounge (Do not use unlicenced cars or go with taxi touts) A journey into Sebes to meet me will cost you around £70 aprox 350 Lei or New Ron should you need one.
I highly recommend however you hire a self drive car from the company I recommend above for exploring beautiful Romania during your stay.
COACHES
Want to travel overland without the hassle of driving then Eurolines offer a service out of London - Victoria Coach Station into Sebes where I can meet you.
BY CAR ALL THE WAY
For the really intrepid traveller then do it by road as a European Tour taking in the sights of places like Brugge, Koln, Frankfurt, Wurzburg, Vienna and lovely Budapest. I have done this many times and yes while it is a longish journey its so much fun seeing so much of Europe. No visas to worry about just ensure you get your Vignettes in Austria, Hungary and finally Romania. Hey! Be Intrepid especially you youngsters.
CAR HIRE - Car Hire has always been a concern so after an amount of research I want to recommend the best deal for you with a reputable Car Hire Company and to this end I recommend Autonom Rent a Car - You can find them at www.autonom.ro or by emailing Mr Florin Rusu at mures@autonom.ro (An example of new cars available would include Vauxhall or Opel Astra four door saloon at just over £300 per week.) Roger House is situated in a wonderful place in the foothills of Surianu mountains, an area with a great view, with numerous hiking trails for those who love. Atmosphere of the place transpose you in a world situated at the threshold of civilization where you feel that time is running slower and the pace of life is different. Accommodation conditions are good, as well as the access road. House facilities are modern and fully satisfy all requirements. Also the space around the house is well equipped: outdoor terrace, sunbeds and barbecue place. I recommend this place with great confidence...and look forward to returning. Response: I just love receiving reviews from satisfied guests after all Im relatively new at this and of all things I want to please my guests so their input is very important to me so I can identify where I can make changes and improvements to ensure my guests have happy memories. I am grateful that this kind guest took the trouble to write a review - Thank you very much - (Multumesc foarte mult) |

Our host, Roger, met us at the 'local' supermarket and we followed him back up a mountain road past waving local villagers to an eagle's nest of a location high in the hills. The road up is tarmac to about half way then becomes a dirt track which is no real problem to travel even in a small hire car. As we drove up we passed view after view which became progressively more impressive as we climbed the hill up towards 'Casa Roger', the self-catering holiday let that was once our host's main residence but has now been modified to suit groups of 2-6 people (there are three separate bedrooms and a large, open lounge and dining room area). The kitchen has all the requisite fixtures and a view across the valley to the hills beyond. Outside are several seating areas including a table to site 8-10 around and a garden benefiting from the presence of many of the local wildflowers. Eagles soar overhead with only the occasional farm vehicle bumping past carrying shepherds from the high meadows or the supplies that go up to what must be the remotest 'shop' we had ever seen! Roger, for the price of the fuel only, took us in his 4-wheel drive up to the very highest terrain where we met some of the Romanian people who recognise him on sight and were always hospitable and helpful. Because of the charitable work he carries out for the local community, Roger is a bit of a local celebrity and if ever caught out on a long walk where poor weather or injury intervene, just flag down any vehicle that passes and say 'Casa Roger' and you'll be guaranteed a lift home. The weather is very changeable and hard to predict - even by the locals on a day to day basis. We had temperatures up to 32 degrees, plenty of sun and a few thunderstorms thrown in for good Transylvanian dramatic effect. Walks are from the front door and can be from an hour to a whole day according to how adventurous you feel. All of them are completely safe and there is plenty that passes you by as you travel - flowers, birds (including two species of Eagle) and assorted reptile life scuttling away as you approach on the track. Although there are wild bears and wolves in the hills they don't come down to the area where the property is located. Earlier in our trip we were lucky enough to see three brown bears on a hillside opposite our accommodation and it is possible to arrange 'tracking' tours to go to the areas where the bears are if that's your thing. All in all, the property is warm (with a very efficient log burning ceramic faced stove), comfortable and commands excellent views of the fantastic countryside. As a host, Roger is attentive but not intrusive and his knowledge of the area, the people and their customs is a bonus for those who wan't to learn more about the hardest working people you'll meet up a mountain. Well recommended for couples or small groups enjoying walking and tranquility and for whom phones and the internet are things to be avoided when away on holiday. Families with small children will find it too remote I suspect and there are few 'attractions' to amuse the average 5-12 year old. We took a chance on a country and region that we knew very little about and would recommend that readers do the same and experience it for themselves. Living is VERY cheap (a week's food shop including wine was around £30, coffee in a bar or cafe around £0.80p) and the scenery is spectacular and unspoilt. No vampires either by the way. Response: I am forever in the debt of such kind guests who leave such comprehensive and detailed reviews I enjoyed immenseley meeting this couple as I do all my visitors and am so pleased they were pleased with what I had on offer. If my guests go away happy and have enjoyed the Romanian experience then I am happy financial considerations are not so important but the happiness of my guests are. Romania is an almost unknown quantity at the moment and it is my hope that forward thinking and discerning guests that travel to this almost hitherto unknown holiday destination will go away and spread the word that Romania is so much more than abandoned babies,Dracula and Gypsies. Romania is steeped in history, culture beauty and tradition home to one of the kindest and most hospitable people in Europe - Thank You and do look forward to hearing from you again and just maybe hearing from your friends - Good fortune and health from Transylvania |

this was my fourth time staying at casa roger, each time i go im amazed by the beautiful views the lovely friendly villagers, the relaxing, chilled out lifestyle of everyone, we were invited to BBQ's by the locals and even though i dont speak any Romanian they made us very welcome, refurbishments have taken place at the guest house both inside and out, the garden is lovely and laying on the sunloungers admiring the views was extremely relaxing, a few lovely warm days but then the weather changed so we lit the log fire to keep warm in the evening, i highly recomend this guest house for anyone that wants to get away from it all, Roger is the perfect host always, will be going back again later in the year. Response: Great to have regular customers and guests who love it so much that they come back frequently - And enjoy a discount for doing so - Thank you so very much for your loyalty |
