The Transylvania region

Casa Roger just a short hop from the rural village of Loman is set in one of the most spectacular parts of Transylvania. Summers are very hot and winters white and crispy. This region in central Romania is becoming more popular day by day now that Romania is a fully fledged member of the EU
I consider Romania to be the jewel of Europe, then maybe I am biased as I have been travelling here for over two decades now. I think after your visit you too will think so and I guarentee you will get smitten with the desire to return to Romania again and again. - It is not possible to show volumes of photographs here but by logging onto FaceBook you will see my many albums of photographs taken throughout the area - Find FaceBook and look for Roger Quentin then enjoy so many lovely photographs of beautiful Romania you may just get smitten
The Sebes / Loman area
The village of Loman dates back some many hundreds of years and is Real Romania - None of the City stuff. You will see true Romania and experience the hospitality of one of the most friendly people in the whole of Europe. Send me an email and I will send you an invite to my facebook site with hundreds of pictures of real Romania. No time like the present email me now and take a journey through my many photos.
Loman makes a great base to explore Romania from - Why not visit the Red Lakes Lecu Rosu or why not take in Draculas Trail and visit Sigisoare, Sibiu and Bran near Brasov. Alba Julia not so far away makes a great day out concluding the day in the cellar restaurant within the bastion Pub 13. Visit the very many monesteries throughout the country. Even have a humble picnic or barbecue in some secluded spot and just kick back and take in the magnificent views. If you are into retail therapy then pop into Sebes and pick up some lovely ornaments or visit the local Thursday Market and for you youngsters pick up some denims I guarentee you have never seen such an array of denim. Leather also is very cheap. For photographers the photo opportunities are endless.

TRAVEL OPTIONS -
Flights with Wizz Air from Luton through to Targu Mures - Cheap as chips - Hire a car on the same Wizz Air site and enjoy your journey into location. I highly recommend the airport at Targu Mures (A very small airport with no waiting hassles) the journey from there is lovely passing through some lovely villages and no major cities to deal with. Arriving at Sebes via Alba Julia for your Meet & Greet with your host Roger. If you have a Sat Nav with Eastern Europe available on it then bring it with you you may find it useful rather than maps also a copy of Berlitz Romanian would be useful.
TAXIS
Registered taxis are available just outside the arrivals lounge (Do not use unlicenced cars or go with taxi touts) A journey into Sebes to meet me will cost you around £70 aprox 350 Lei or New Ron should you need one.
I highly recommend however you hire a self drive car for exploring beautiful Romania during your stay.
COACHES
Want to travel overland without the hassle of driving then Eurolines offer a service out of London - Victoria Coach Station into Sebes where I can meet you.
BY CAR ALL THE WAY
For the really intrepid traveller then do it by road as a European Tour taking in the sights of places like Brugge, Koln, Frankfurt, Wurzburg, Vienna and lovely Budapest. I have done this many times and yes while it is a longish journey its so much fun seeing so much of Europe. No visas to worry about just ensure you get your Vignettes in Austria, Hungary and finally Romania. Hey! Be Intrepid especially you youngsters.

This was the most unusual place we had ever booked - a house high up in the hills outside Sebes. Accommodation was fairly basic but comfortable and with stunning views and walks from the front door. The owner - an expat Englishman - lived in his own house next door and was friendly and helpful. It's quite a bumpy and bendy drive but the hired Dacia coped well. There were some great places to visit in the area and virtually no tourists. |

The house is in a fabulous location, overlooking a beautiful valley deep in the mountains.House itself is pretty basic, but with everything necessary to make one's stay acceptable, comfortable beds, pillows, all necessary kitchen equipment but no washing machine. However there is a lady that will do washing in the next door farm. The owner, who lives next door, is very helpful and knowledgeable of the area and the walks which are possible from the front door. A great place to stay and explore the mountain countryside, which is truly beautiful and observe the local farming of a by-gone age. |

We had a wonderful relaxing week here at Casa Roger and with two small boys that is a rareity! Roger was helpful and welcoming as were his friends and neighbours. The house was wonderful. We were really grateful for The Welcome Pack on the first day it made it so much easier to settle in. The house and the views were everything we hoped for from the HolidayLettings web site.We were very satisfied customers. Casa Roger was a great base and enabled us to have the right mix of things to see and do along with the peace and relaxation of getting away from it all.
Much appreciated. Thankyou - Louise,Rob and the children Sunbury on Thames Middx UK August 2010
Had a really great time here at Casa Roger.Good accommodation.Tremendous views. Beautiful surroundings and welcoming villagers.
Mr Roger as he is called by locals is a very kind and humorous person. I would recommend this destination as a very good choice for a nice holiday but dont forget to bring your camera with you and maybe some binoculars as you will be amazed by the views around the area.

Ever reflected on how over used is the term 'get away from it all' is? Don't get me wrong I'm all for the charms of Rome, Morocco or the beaches of The Med - But it's not really away from it all is it? I don't quite know what 'IT' is -But it's definitely still there somewhere.
In October last year however, I did actually 'get away from it all' For the first time in many years I actually got through a whole two weeks without the slightest urge to call in to the office. For the first time ever I actually experienced a different culture rather than observe it. It's more than an escape - It's a reality check. Try getting stressed about your phone bill etc when you wake up each morning to the picture postcard views across the Carpathian mountains and the gentle sound of cowbells coming from a neighbouring field.
Of course you don't have to leave the house at all. Reading on the balcony, long lazy lunches on the terrace and of course lengthy chats with Roger's neighbours (conducted entirely with a Romanian/English Phrasebook or dictionary (Berlitz is good) universal hand gestures and alot of laughter) can easily eat up a whole day. Before you know it the sun is setting over the mountains and you are snuggled up on comfy sofas leafing through a book and thinking about new Romanian phrases to try out on the locals. Hey almost perfect!

The house which sleeps upto Six adults has the most breathtaking views over the mountains. The air is so clean and it's so peaceful. For peace and quiet you would go along way to find better. If you like shops and bars nearby this isn't the place for you. The good news is the proprietor (Roger) lives next door and speaks both English and Romanian (Also German) and will be able to guide you enabling you to see the very best of Transylvania.
We were so pleased we had a four-wheel-drive vehicle as we were able to go to the locals Summer retreat (way up high in the meadows at Careara - 2,500 feet) to enjoy spectacular scenery and amazing hospitality from the villagers who treated us like celebraties. Although poor in financial terms they displayed a wealth of hospitality and generosity and it was a wonderful way of teaching the children that there are still things money can't buy.

Dear Roger
We wanted to send you an email and say a huge thank you for allowing us to stay in your house whilst in Romania. What a beautiful country Romania is we had no idea of the majesty and awe we would experience just looking out of the front door of the house it was glorious and there was so much peace up in the mountains.
The house was lovely, very spacious and open planned it was great to be in a place that felt like a home away from home where we could relax and do what we wanted. There was a great fireplace that warmed the whole house making it so cosy.
To see the amazing views from the bedroom windows of the lush green rolling hills and snow capped peaks every morning was a wonderful experience.
Generally the Romanian people were so very welcoming and friendly even though there was a language barrier they were always so very keen to help us.
Thank you again Roger

Absolutely fabulous Roger - The whole week was one big adventure and great to get away from buzzing telephones and emails back in England. Loved the trip up to Careara and seeing the roaming horses and wildlife - Enjoyed the BarB immensley - It was a great experience but next time I may book for two weeks instead of the one. I shall gladly recommend such a visit to all my friends for future consideration - Thanks Again Roger - You were a great host. Thanks also for the Meet and Greet and welcome hamper that helped no-end
