The Schwangau/Fussen / Neuschwanstein area
The Schwangau area provides all the leisure opportunities you could wish for: golf, tennis, hiking, horse riding, paragliding, cycling, mountain biking, rock climbing, sailing, swimming, canoeing and winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding, ski touring and snow shoeing. You can take the horse carriage/sledge to the castles or the deer feeding areas, join the local festivals and admire the Bavarian dress: Lederhosen and Dirndl; and enjoy a variety of beers and culinary highlights.
On the cultural side, this area boasts of history and culture. The famous castle Neuschwanstein which inspired Disney to come up with Cinderella Castle, the parent castle Hohenschwangau and Füssens medieval castle are on the must-see list. 2 medieval ruins can be the destination of one of your walks and Roman remains abound around us: a Roman bath/villa, roman pillars and the old Roman trading route Via Claudia Augusta passes by our house (it's now part of the cycling route around lake Forggensee). Even the celts had their settlements here.
Come for Christmas and New Year Celebrations and enjoy romantic the Christmas markets and fireworks.
