About this location
The Algarve region
Serra da Arrábida
In addition to the capital city of Lisbon, with its many attractions, the surroundings, south-west of Lisbon, offer relaxation and nature.
Start your trip in Costa da Caparica, a popular destination of the Portuguese people. Here, the 25 kilometer-long white sand beaches extend until the nature reserve of Serra da Arrabida.
Follow the white beach coast to the south where you can find many beach restaurants and beach bars. Here you can rent beach chairs and umbrellas. From the fishing village Fonte da Telha on, it gets more quiet. Walk along the deserted beaches until the Lagoa Azul, a haven for windsurfers and kitesurfers. Further south you will come to the Praia do Meco, a particularly popular destination for young Portuguese people. In the summer, concerts are held, but also the numerous small pubs in the Aldeia do Meco a worth to get in and eat.
Behind the Aldeia do Meco the nature reserve Serra da Arrabida begins, which extends up to Setubal.
In the middle lies the picturesque fishing village of Sesimbra, which is worth a visit in any case. Enjoy sitting there in one of the many really good restaurants with their fresh fish or shellfish dishes. Very early in the morning on the beach you can still assist to the auctions of the catches of local fishermen.
A round trip by car over the Serra da Arrabida offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. Drive in any case down to Portinho Arrábida. A beach with an upstream rocky island, where you can see idyllic fishing boats rocking in the water. In Portinho da Arrabida the Atlantic shows its peaceful side. Crystal clear water, no waves.
At the end of your round trip through the Serra da Arrabida you reach the town of Setubal. From here you can book a boat tour, for example, the ROUTE DOLPHINS, where you can see, if you are lucky, dolphins or the THREE BAYS TOUR, which lasts a whole day, lunch included.
Or take the car ferry to Troia, and ride the next 100 kilometers along the white sandy beaches towards the south.
Sao Bras de Alportel
Lisbon is the second eldest capital of Europe (after Athene), once home to the world greatest explorers like Vasco da Gama, Magellan and Prince Henry, the Navigator, becoming the first true world city, the capital of an empire spreading over all continents from South America (Brasil) to Asia (Macau, China; Goa, India).
One of Europe's most southful captivating, and picturesque capitals, built on a series of hills with scenic vistas from every angle. A charming visual time-warp with vintage trams and medieval village-like neighbourhoods.
The city of the oceans, the only European capital with sunsets on the sea, so close to sandy beaches and with one of the world's largest state-of-the art aquariums.
It's a compact and intimate city, ideal for a short city break or a longer romantic stay, with a lively café culture and a nightlife that is one of the most vibrant in Europe.
Its surroundings offer an incredible variety of tourist attractions, from fairytale palaces in one of Europe's most romantic towns (Sintra), to world class golf and fun in Europe's largest casino in Estoril, to surfing or kite surfing at Guincho, or escaping to a natural park in Arrábida, to dolphin-watching in Sétubal.

"9 Friends, 10 days, 2 very friendly contact persons and 1 really nice house"
We just wanted to say thank you for everything! We've had really nice holidays in the Aroeira Pool House.
- Nice looking and clean house with enough space for 9 friends
- big pool and garden area
- good kitchen with enough equipment
- nice bathrooms
- very friendly, helpful and capable contact persons 24/7 (thank you!)
- BBQ station
- rent a car to go to the beach, buy food in the cute local supermarket and to visit Sintra, Cascais and of course Lisboa
- eat at a typical portuguese restaurant S. Pedro II (5 minutes walking, German card available and very good food)
All in all we've had an amazing stay at Charneca da Caparica and I can recommend Aroeira Pool House with a clear conscience.
Keep up the good work Ursula and Caroline!
