The Aegean Islands region

Samos is the greenest island of the eastern aegean sea, about 324km away from the largest port of Greece, Pireas and just 800m from Asia Minor shores. Samos is neighboring with Chios island in the north, Kousadasi of Turkey in the east, Patmos island in the south and Ikaria island in the west. Its size is 475 sq and has 36.000 permanent inhabitants.

Samos is not a mass tourism destination thus it keeps its unique, natural beauty and the honesty of its people. Has a prehistory of more than 3.000 years and the most famous samians are the mathematician Pythagoras and the astronomer Aristarchos. The island is very green with olive trees, wine yards, pine trees and was a holiday destination already from the ancient times.

The favourite island of Antonio and Cleopatra, Samos still remains the place of elite Greeks and Europeans that visit the island not only for its fantastic beaches but also for the endless paths on the mountains that attract quality environmental tourism.

The modern hospital of Samos has department of technical kidney, department of intensive therapy, an axon tomograph etc.

There are more than 4 daily flights all the year round from Athens - Samos – Athens, 3 times a week from Thessaloniki – Samos – Thessaloniki, Heraklion of Crete, Rhodes and Lesvos island. There is a daily boat to and from Pireas (Athens) through the year.

There are public buses that connect Samos town with all the villages several times a day.

From April to late October there are many charter flights during the week from different European cities such as London, Amsterdam, Berlin….

“Aristarchos the Samian” International Airport of Samos has been resently renovated.

Samos Island

One can enjoy the fish taverns, the ouzeri offering special meze dishes with Samos ouzo or the famous Muscat wine, the in numerous restaurants offering an international cuisine, the local bars, cafes and the typical Greek kafenio.

There are many old monasteries and beautiful churches, antiques, museums, cinemas, clubs and live music pubs. It is well worthwhile to visit the many unique villages on the mountains hidden in the wild green nature and surrounded by vineyards.

Art Galleries, Cultural events and various festivals take place all the year round. The most popular are the “Kalomiris” and the “Samos Wine” festival every summer.

For those who want to have a more energetic life there are many types of water sports, athletic facilities, athletic studios and of course two big mountains with friendly environment, natural paths and great surprises such as rare kinds of flowers and birds, therapeutic herbs, olive trees and fantastic views.
