The Aegean Islands region
The Aegean islands are located a long way south and Rhodes itself was a staging post for the Knights Templar on their way to the crusades which leads to an interesting mix of Greek , Byzantine and also Italian cultures.
Temperatures in Lindos rise from mid to high 20s in April through to low 30s in late June and mid 30s in August back down to mid 20s by the end of October and it is still warm enough to swim in the sea at Xmas. It is very unusual to see any rain between April and October with heavy rains falling in November to February.
The Rhodes / Lindos area
Rhodes is a large island and offers something for everyone.
Lindos is carefully protected and consists of a warren of whitewashed fishermen's cottages and captains houses dissected by pebbled streets narrow enough only to allow access to donkeys and mopeds. The buildings are hollowed out to offer a wide range of shops and bars and an eclectic mix of superb dining from traditional greek to rustic Italian at Broccolino to world class nouveau cuisine at boutique hotel Melonos. Everything is dominated by the ancient Acropolis set high above the town.
Beaches range from the stunning bay of St Pauls to family beaches at Navarone Bay (400 m from the villa ); to the sweeping beach at Prassonisi 30 km to the south , famous for hosting world windsurfing championships.
Activities range from spas in Lindos and also at Lindian Village resort 5 km away where it is also possible to hire catamarans and windsurfers. Tennis is available and the island's golf course is 15 km north of the villa where there is also a waterpark available for the children. Further afield , it is possible to take diving trips and day trips to Turkey.
Rhodes old town is the largest inhabited medieval town in Europe and although the Colossus of Rhodes no longer exists there is still a wealth of history to explore whilst the new town offers modern shopping , clubs and dining experience.
We chose Rhodes because it is exceptionally varied and there is so much to do that we are able to go back repeatedly.

FLYING THERE : RHODES -DIAGORAS AIRPORT
Direct flights are available and there are many options.
For those that live in the south we recommend Easyjet which takes around 3 hours 45 mins from Gatwick.
From the north Jet2.com offers very reasonable flights from Leeds ,Manchester, Newcastle
Other options include Thomas Cook and Thomson
Another alternative is to fly either on discount scheduled flights to Athens and to take 50 minute connecting flight to Rhodes
FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE VILLA
The drive is very straightforward and around 40 minutes direct down the scenic coast road from the airport to Lindos.
Car hire in Rhodes is cheap. We recommend Holiday autos (www.holidayautos.co.uk) who charge from £17 per day for an economy car which tends to be a couple of years old and the main rental companies such as Avis and Hertz charge slightly more but the car is normally near new.
Alternatively a taxi ride is around £30 and you can pick up a car at your leisure in Lindos the next day.

We selected Villa Athena for the view but we will come back for the house. Set in an ideal location, just outside of Lindos Town, the Villa has all the amenities and is kept in top shape by its fantastic owners and excellent property manager. Many families will trek no further than the large, modern deck area with infinity pool and a spectacular view of the bay. Others will take the short ride to Lindos town with its idyllic setting at the base of the Acropolis and its many bars and restaurants (warning, many are closed in the off season, not an issue for us but may be for others - we prefer it the way it was). Though we are not beach people, many beaches were close and the Town of Rhodes, with all its history, was a traffic free 50 minutes away. Alex, the property manager, ensures the guest is properly set up, and gives perfect recommendations whether you are a true tourist, or looking to travel inland and "go Greek". The house is big, airy and in fabulous shape - its six bedrooms can accomodate a large family and the house is divided to the point where it could easily accomodate an extended family as it has three master bedrooms, on three seperate levels along with smaller rooms for kids. The view, the view is everywhere you look and the large sliding glass picture window/wall ensure that you are never far from it. Villa Athena made our Greek vacation. I have used vacation homes, around the world, and for almost 15 years. If not number 1, Villa Athena is certainly among the top 3 all around, that we have ever stayed in Response: We were slightly concerned when you booked to visit in late November as we have never had guests quite so late in the season and are pleased that the weather was good for you and that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you in particular for the kind comments about how well Alex looks after the place - she will be pleased. |

This villa really has it all. It is maintained to an excellent standard and I was happily surprised to see upon arrival the villa was even better than in the photos. The owners have thought of everything you might need for your stay. The location is great, only a few minutes drive from the beaches and cobbled streets of Lindos, with pleanty of restaurants shops and bars. The villa has enough space to make it feel private from the others around without being in the middle of nowhere. Having never visited Lindos before, I would highly reccomend it and will definately look to come back and stay at Villa Athena myself. Response: Thank you for the kind comments - I wish that I was a better photographer and could capture it properly ! We would be delighted for you to stay again |

This place really feels like a home form home, the owners have taken great care to make you feel comfortable without too many rules. The location is great, though you would need a car to get to the beach & the town. The ppol and outside areas are kept immaculately clean. All the rooms and shared areas are nice. There were 7 of us and we had plenty of space. In fact we liked it so much we will probably return next year. Response: Thank you . We are very fortunate that Alex looks after the villa so beautifully. You are very welcome to come again - fill it up next year & bring your friends ! |
