Villa Maya
About the home
The perfect holiday retreat with easy access to just about anything you can imagine on this wonderful Greek Island ! Our villa is situated in a superbly tranquil setting, but when (or if) you want a change of scenery it's just a matter of minutes to drive to the beaches or numerous villages just bursting with Greek heritage.
Situated in the quietest area of a development, at the edge of Pylonas village & just a 5 min drive from the spectacular and world famous village of Lindos.
We enjoy stunning, panoramic views of the surrounding hills, olive groves and distant mountains which can be viewed either while relaxing around the pool or sunbathing on the secluded 1st floor sun terrace.
The pool measures a generous 9 x 5 mtrs, and is perfect for that leisurely dip before breakfast, most certainly for night swimming under the stars and more importantly for those long, lazy, sunny days when you just want to chill out and top up that tan.
The house sits on one of the largest plots on the development affording our guests plenty of breathing space, the gardens are maturing nicely ! The villa is south facing and sun worshippers will relish the all day sunshine.
When you want a change you are within a 5 minute drive of several wonderful beaches . Whether it's the fun of messing about on the water - pedaloes, canoes, banana boats, waterskiing (if that's your thing !) - or just lounging around on sandy shores, you'll be spoilt for choice.

The Aegean Islands region
Rhodes, or Rodos in Greek, is the largest of the Dodecanese islands and one of the largest in the Aegean. Shaped like an arrowhead it is almost 80 kms long and 38kms at its widest point with a 220kms coastline.
It is close to the coastline of Turkey which is easily accessible by the ferries which leave daily from Mandraki Harbour in Rhodes Town.
This is also true of the islands of Symi - once famous for its sponge divers - and Chalki. Symi is a nearby island worth visiting for the spectacular views from its hillsides and the wonderful neo-classical houses clustered around the harbour.
The capital of Rhodes town is in the north and most of the tourist development is situated down the east coast reaching as far as Kiotari in the south -and on the west coast reaching almost to the airport, approx 14 kms from the capital.
The island has a varied geography, mountains and shady pine forests, coastal plains, the gentle hills of the south and a spectacular coastline.
Rodos boasts an average of 320 days of sunshine a year and has some of the most spectacular beaches in Greece, all within easy reach of the property.
The Rhodes / Lindos area
Although Rodos is firmly in the 21st century it still retains its typical Greek character.
From the fertile plains in the south & west ( where most of the local produce is grown ) to the towering Mt. Ataviros in the centre, the breathtaking views from the cliffs of Monolithos, the gloriously sandy beaches of the east coast to the magnificent southern sweep of the surfing paradise that is Prassonisi - Rodos has much to offer the lucky visitor.
Rhodes Old Town is the best preserved medieval town in Europe, a vast walled citadel which is an UNESCO world heritage site. Take a walk along the top of the gigantic walls and get a bird's eye view of the old town, Mandraki harbour and the azure sea beyond.
Browse in one of the many tourist shops that crowd the busy cobbled streets, eat and drink to your heart's content ( go on, you're on holiday !) in any one of the dozens of cafes and tavernas, visit the museums, mosques & the street of the Knights where you will feel that you have stepped back in time.
When you've had your fill exit through one of the many impressive gates and visit the New Town with its trendy shops and cafes, not forgetting to visit the 4 (!!!!) umbrella shops in Lambraki Street ! It's a treat to wander along the tree lined roads drinking in the mediterranean ambience.
Drive south along the east coast to Faliraki, for the young and maybe the young at heart, once a small fishing village and now a bold, brash party place with a surprisingly nice beach and a Waterpark which is definitely worth a visit.
For those who indulge there is Afandou - with an award winning par 72 golf course - just 15 min drive from Pylonas village.
In the centre of the island is Efta Piges (7 springs) and Petaloudes (Valley of the butterflies).
On the mountain of Profitis Ilias (the prophet Elias) we find the summer retreat of Mussolini , built during the Italian occupation and now a hotel.
In Lardos, just 5 mins drive from our village there is go karting and mini golf as well as tavernas, shops, hotels and many good restaurants.
Lindos is the most spectacular village on the island, just a 5 min drive away.
A fabulous confection of sugar cube houses clinging to the hillside crowned by the Acropolis, a 4th century temple to the goddess Athena, on each side an extraordinary vista of turquoise sea.
Take a walk through the shady cobbled streets and climb to the summit along a winding path, or take a Lindos taxi (as the donkeys are called).
As always there are untold shopping opportunities and rooftop tavernas to visit and enjoy the many wonderful views across Lindos beach and St Pauls Bay ( very romantic !)
Come the night it reveals itself as a partygoers dream with the bars and clubs opening well into the small hours.
Further south is Pefkos (Pine trees), once a sandy road running along the coast, now a thriving and lively beach resort with some restaurants well worth a visit of an evening - and still less than a 10 min drive away from home.
Continuing south we find a smattering of tourist areas before the island opens up into a rural, undeveloped plain with just traditional villages such as Gennadi, Lachania and Kattavia where life has barely changed for the last 50 years - mobiles & satelite TV notwithstanding !
At the very end of this lovely island we are delighted by the majestic sweep of the sands of Prassonissi - a surfing & windsurfing mecca for the purists but also a lovely place to play in the waves.
And that's just the East coast !!

| Nearest Travel Links | |
| Airport: | Diagoras International Airport: 40 km |
| Ferry: | Mandraki, Rhodes Town |
Direct flights from most major airports in the UK to Rhodes ( Diagoras International Airport ), main carriers are Easyjet, Ryanair, Monarch, Thomson, Aegean & Olympic Air.
Off season ( Late November to late April ) Olympic & Aegean have flights via Athens.
Flights and ferries from Athens to Rhodes Town
Car hire firms are aplenty - at the airport are the usual giants - Hertz, Avis etc, some local companies and Holidayautos which can be booked online and are often the cheapest. There are also many Greek companies based near Pylonas - in Lindos, Pefkos, Lardos, Kiotari etc where deals can be struck in the time honoured Greek way !
A taxi ride from the airport takes about 40 mins and costs around 60 euros one way, so we feel a hire car works out better financially.

My sister, brother-in-law, my partner and I stayed at the Villa Maya for a week at the beginning of October and we had a brilliant time. The Villa Maya has everything you could possibly ask for and is definitely a home from home. While the village itself is quiet there are plenty of places within a short drive to visit. The weather was freakishly good for the time of year we visited so we made full use of the facilities, the sun loungers, the sun deck, bbq, the pool was lovely with a very nice and helpful pool cleaner. I would not hesitate to recommend this property and Dea was always on hand to answer any questions and provide any guidance. Thank you for a great holiday. Danielle |

The property is simply sublime. Very tastefully decorated and well equipped - one is left wanting for nothing. Air conditioning, amply sized pool, Wii, Scrabble (hurrah!), wifi, books, iPod docking, 2 showers, it's got the lot. Lots of big and little things that go a long way in making one's holiday special. The location for us was great: in a quiet area yet a hop skip and a jump to the lovely Lindos and close to more beautiful beaches than you can shake a bucket and spade at. Communication with the owner was second to none. The only thing we didn't really like was having to leave. |

Our stay at Villa Maya was truly relaxing and very comfortable. Every need was catered for , a well equiped kitchen and lounge.Very comfortable beds and air conditioning which adjusted to a temperature that suited the individual giving us all the best sleep we ever had in a hot country. The pool was excellent and well used, and kept in good order by Will. The terrace with table and chairs stayed cool in the heat and we had many a meal here and played games in the evening. The automatic lights around the gardens gave a lovely ambience at night. The village of Pylonas is not touristy at all. It has several tavernas and a pizzeria in walking distance ...the pizzas were lovely and also good as a takeaway on those evenings when leaving the villa and pool was too much effort...thats how relaxed we were. Carol and Jim run the local bar, the.Pylonas Arms and all were very friendly. The supermarket just before turning into Pylonas village catered for most of our needs and produces fresh bread throughout the day. Great snorkelling is to be had at St Pauls Bay ..just the other side of Lindos town ..a 5-10 minute car drive. We would go early morning and have a coffee at the little taverna after..lovely way to spend the morning. We used the car a great deal and drove all over the island. There is lots to see. Rhodes town is worth a visit by day and by night...its an hour by car but worth it. Many beaches are only a short drive away. Our twin girls loved it , theyre 12 going on 21 !! They really loved the pool, the Greek people, the food (never had a bad meal out) and the chance to escape the heat and watch a good movie ( from the excellent selection) in the cool and comfy lounge ..and on a 42" screen . We had a lovely holiday at Villa Maya and were sad to leave but hope to return one day. Thank you to all who made our stay so enjoyable. |
