Townhouse | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Experience the wonders of French village life where the people are incredibly friendly and the streets are steeped with history. Pouzauges is located south of the Loire Valley, north of Bordeaux/La Rochelle, an hour inland from Atlantic Coast beaches and only a few hours from Paris. It is also only 10 minutes drive away from the historic theme park Le Puy du Fou.
The house is located in centre ville, just a few doors up from the main shopping square, the best boulangerie and pizzeria/ creperie in town and one of two 12th century churches in the village and the remnants of the castle which belonged to the family of Bluebeard's wife is up the hill.
There are two liveable stories. The ground floor has a French colour themed kitchenette, living area and shower/toilet. The second floor has one extra large bedroom with a double bed and day bed (and an additional mattress) in the room alongside a separate room with a toilet/washbasin.
The house can sleep four adults with a sofa converting into a double bed but can sleep another two children/adults if needed in the day bed/extra mattress (port-a-cot also available).
Sitting on the outdoor terrace, you overlook the church. Just outside the house is free street parking. All linen/utilities (including a washing machine and gas heating) are supplied and there is a TV/CD/DVD player with DVDs available as well as books/games.
Example guest comment (more can be provided): Pouzuages was fantastic. We all loved your home away from home! The home itself was very comfortable.

The Poitou-Charentes/Vendee region
The Vendee is a department in the Pays de la Loire region in the west of France. It is well known for its long, wide beaches and seaside landscapes. This is one of the features that makes the Vendee the most visited region by the French.
Its coastline has 160 km of sandy beaches said to be relatively undiscovered and is one of the least explored, exploited and cleanest in France. We love the beach resort/harbour town of Les Sables d’Olonne as well as the quaint seaside villages of St Gilles Croix de Vie and St Jean de Monts and are to discover what others refer to as the best islands in France: Ile de Noirmoutier and Ile dYeu. The fact that this area has the second highest number of days of sunshine in the whole of France helps this seaside lifestyle.
This region was featured as the start of the 2011 Tour de France and the medieval theme park, Le Puy du Fou, one of the top 10 most visited tourist attractions in France is located there. The Vendee has a lot of history with many 10-12th century castle remains and churches.
Pouzauges, with its 5,000 inhabitants, lets you settle back into regional village life. In summer the lake comes alive with an outdoor restaurant and water activities. There is a modern cinema with newly released movies and live theatre (in French), biweekly produce markets in the town hall and main square, an indoor aquatic centre with water slide, art gallery and a selection of restaurants.
The village is also steeped in history with many sites to see including two 12th century churches (one with frescos inside) and castle/rampart ruins on top of the hill (once owned by wife of Bluebeard) – history/walking tours are available to take in these sites. Pouzauges has also achieved the rating of a three (out of four) flower village for its beauty, green surrounds and charm.
Besides the village itself, you can visit places easily from it including Le Puy du Fou (a medieval theme park and one of the top 10 tourist attractions in France only 10 minutes drive away), Atlantic coastal resort towns (an hour away) of La Rochelle, Ile de Re and Les Sables d’Olonne, the castles of the Loire Valley and cities of Bordeaux and Nantes (both with surrounding wine regions) as well as plenty of local Vendeen villages. Another great feature is that everyone is very friendly - people from the Vendee region are well known as the friendliest in France.
