The East Ireland / County Meath region

Five minutes drive from the accommodation are the Loughcrew megalithic cairns, lakeside & woodland walks at Virginia & Mullaghmeen forest, renowned fishing/boating lakes such as Lough Sheelin.

Glenboy is located adjacent to the lakeland districts of Meath, Westmeath and Cavan. Hundreds of lakes in beautiful rural surroundings including renowned stillwater lakes such as Lene (with Blue Flag status) and Bane and Lough Sheelin famed for its mayfly fishing.

The county of Meath is a treasure trove of archeological and historical sites, including Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth with their Neolithic tombs and monuments. Also in the county is the Hill of Tara, the seat of the High Kings of Ireland and he Norman castle at Trim constructed by Hugh de Lacy in 1172 was visited by King John in 1610 and 400 years later by Mel Gibson for the filming of Braveheart. A short drive takes you sites such as Fore Abbey in County Westmeath with its 'seven wonders' or the the town of Kells famed for St. Columba's 6th monastery and the Book that bears its name now on display in Trinity College Dublin.

Oldcastle area

Glenboy Country Accommodation is 10 minutes walk from the market town of Oldcastle. Oldcastle has a range of shops, banks, churches, Post Office, laundry, restaurants, cafes & pubs, gym, taxis and bus service. A range of music can be found in the pubs at weekends. With it’s the weekly market in the Masonic hall, gaelic football at the weekend and annual events such as the Le Cheile Arts and Music Festival and Agricultural Show, Oldcastle has all the features of a typical rural Irish town where real people work and live.

A selection of golf courses nearby include (Headfort, Ballinlough, Delvin, Crover and Virginia) while Irelands unique domestic sports organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association are a feature of every town and village. Leisure centre/swimming pool, include Navan Leisure centre, Kells and massage, reika and aromatherapy is offered by a range of practitioners in the area.

Theatre and arts includes the Navan Solstice Centre, Mulllingar Arts Centre, Ramor Theatre Virginia. Heritage and historical information is available from Kells Heritage Centre and Cavan County Museum in Ballyjamesduff, while the area offers a range of gardens and historic buildings open to the public including, Loughcrew Gardens, Tullynally Castle and Belvedere House. A range of venues offer horse-riding including, lessons and racing. Race meetings include the Fairyhouse Irish Grand National horse-racing festival, Navan, Laytown strand races.
 
Festivals are a feature of the Irish summer, covering arts, music and heritage themes. As well as Le Cheile, Oldcastle Arts and Music festival, festivals in the area include Oxegen, O’Carolan Harp Festival, Moynalty Steam Threshing Festival, Midlands Festival, Loughcrew Garden Opera and a range of traditional music festivals, etc.

Glenboy is less than 1km from Oldcastle. Oldcastle is located off the N3 90 minutes drive north west of Dublin airport and ferry ports and is 2 hours drive from Belfast.

After a deposit or full payment has been made, if a client cancels a booking for whatever reason, we reserve the right to apply the following cancellation charges.
Cancellation Policy
More than 60 days deposit refunded less cancellation charge 100 euro.
20-60 days 75% of full payment.
Less than 20 days 100% of full payment.
