There are many places of interest to see on day excursions, apart from the coastal resorts of Javea, Calpe, Denia, Altea, Benidorm, Villajoyosa and Alicante.
There is spectacular scenery to be seen inland such as the wonderful mountain-top fortress of Guadalest, the Vergel Safari Park, near Denia, Europes largest palm forrest at Elche and the ancient city of Murcia.
Madrid, the capital, lies 4 hours journey away ,Barcelona, second city, is the same distance, Valencia (third largest city in Spain) is 1.5 hours away, all reached by motorway.
Spain's answer to Euro Disney, Port Adventura near Barcelona, is about 4.5 hours away.
The Moraira / La Sabatera area
Moraira has a wide choice of restaurants and bars to choose from in the town and surrounding area. You can dine to enjoy English, Italian, French, German, Chinese or Indian cuisine in addition to Spanish. So whether you are looking for a traditional Sunday lunch, or want to try a typically Spanish Paella, you are spoilt for choice.
There are some good restaurants either side of the harbour, offering fresh, locally caught fish, and also economically priced Menu del Dias.
There is also a market in the free main car park every Friday morning, where you can buy locally produced fruit and veg and a whole variety of personal and domestic goods.
A single track railway runs from Denia to Alicante, stopping at Teulada station, not too far from Moraira. This is a very scenic ride cutting through the mountains and following the coastline, giving some impressive views along the way.

| Nearest Travel Links | |
| Airport: | Alicante El Altet: 85 km |
| Railway: | Teulada Tram (Denia-Alicante): 4 km |
Fly to Alicante - Moraira is 85 km from the airport, roughly 1 hours drive.
Fly to Valencia - Moraira is 125 km from the airport, roughly 1.5 hours drive.
Alicante airport is serviced by most UK budget, scheduled & charter airlines, including: Easyjet, Monarch, Ryanair, BMI-Baby and Flybe. Some of these airlines also fly into Valencia.
Car hire is available from both airports.
Coaches run hourly from airport to Benidorm, then Benidorm to Calpe. Cost 8 euros per person per trip.
From the airport in Alicante you catch the C6 Alicante airport bus. At the end of the bus ride (after about 45 minutes) is the bus stop Puerta de Mar. It is the last bus stop - the bus driver will wake you up anyway if you fall asleep as I usually do on those kind of buses.
The easiest way is to take the Tram at the FGV Tram streetcar station at Plaza Puerta del Mar, located in the beautiful harbor area of Alicante. The Tram will take you to Teulada. It is situated 4 Km from Moraira.

I stayed in Villa Santiago in July 2012 with my Partner, her two teenage daughters and her Father. My partner and I were in the main villa with her daughters and her Father was in the separate flat which was just round the side. An excellent holiday was had by all. We actually stayed around the pool for most of the holiday as it was so restful. The villa is surrounded by amazing plants and trees, with cooling breezes and views down to the sea. The villa was well equipped and we cooked for ourselves a lot of the time. There is a large supermarket a short drive into town which is well stocked with familiar and local produce. In particular there is an excellent selection of local cheeses, fruit, veg and fish. (We attempted to cook Swordfish one night as it was on offer.) There is a smaller but still well stocked supermarket just up the hill. This is walkable if you are reasonably fit. There are some local restaurants up the hill which came recommended by Sue, the owner, but we never actually got to sample them. When we ate out we tended to drive into Moraira, where you are spoilt for choice. There is every type of Restaurant you could wish for. My favourite was Pulcinella, an Italian restaurant with a good range of food on the menu and reasonably priced. We ate there a couple of times. Moraira is walkable and the two teenagers escaped adult company on a couple of occasions by walking round the shops. My Partner and I walked down to the beach for a swim in the sea and a drink in a seaside bar a couple of times. We took a trip along the coast to El Portet – This is a little cove with a couple of good restaurants. We spend a lovely day sitting on the narrow beach, swimming and walking round the bay. We were lucky to find a parking space as it was quite busy, but a wonderful excursion. Most of the time was spent just relaxing, reading, swimming in the pool and lapping up the sun in the villa, sipping San Miguel or wine. My partner is a Pilates teacher and does yoga so she found the lower garden an excellent place to practice her yoga and meditate. We are all keen readers so spent time reading and just chilling! We were completely de-stressed when we left (but still wished we had booked a second week!) We really can recommend Villa Santiago as an excellent base for a family holiday. It will stay in our memories for a long time! |

A lovely, clean, comfortable and spacious villa with an excellent pool. The villa is ideally situated for us with easy access into Moraira or just a short walk into Sabatera. Ideal for relaxing by the pool in continuous sunshine or making the short journey to lovely beaches such as El Portet. 30 minutes drive to the theme parks of Benidorm such as Terra Mitica were the kids have a great day. All in all Villa Santiago offers us everything want for a fantastic holiday. We have already booked for 2013. Dave, Sonia, John and Steven. |
