Louisburgh is the focal point of an area some 450 square miles in extent, stretching from Killary Fiord to the South, to the Owenree River to the North, and from the coast to the Erriff valley watershed in the East. All of this landscape is designated as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Mayo County Development Plan, and calls have been made for its designation as a 'Special Amenity Area'.

The Louisburgh area
Mayo's coastline accounts for 16.8% of the total Irish coast, 16% of Ireland's sandy beaches, and many of Ireland's Blue Flagg beaches. Three of these beaches are located in the Louisburgh area... Carramore, Old Head, and Bertra, while beaches at Killadoon have been rated as the best in Europe, i.e. Tallabawn (Silver Strand) and Dooaghtry. For scenic drives travel south to Connemara via Doolough and Leenane, north to Achill via Westport and Newport, or to Ballycastle and the Ceide Fields via Castlebar and Pontoon, or east to Tourmakeady and Lough Nafooey via Westport/Tourmakeady and Leenane, or if you fancy leaving the car out the road at Roonagh pier, go west to Clare Island or lnishturk.
Visit the pretty town of Westport - 20 mins drive.

9 people stayed in this house without feeling cramped. It is a very spacious and extremely well equipped house. The location is marvellous with a 5 minute walk into Louisburgh main street, and the beach (which could almost be secluded). I would highly recommend Donna's house to anyone looking to stay in this beautiful part of Ireland. |

We were initially worried about two families - both with teenagers staying in one house. We needn't have - this house comfortably worked for the eight of us. Its nicely tucked away but a short walk down country lanes to both the beach and local village - where everyone was really friendly. THe house itself is very homely and well equiped - would recommend to anyone |
