About the home

L'Ecurie holiday home is set in the beautiful Vendée countryside in the small village of Lairoux. It is only a 10 minute drive to the bustling cathedral town of Luçon where you will find many shops, supermarkets and restaurants. The safe sandy beaches of La Faute and La Tranche sur Mer are only 20 minutes away and the area has an excellent hiking and cycling network.

The house contains many period features along with a fully equipped kitchen and private al fresco seating and BBQ area. In the extensive gardens you will find a 12 x 7 metre heated pool (shared with our other holiday home), a boules court , a gym and a large games room with Xbox 360 and table tennis.

- L'Ecurie is set on one level, with only 3 steps down to the large Master Bedroom.
- The living room has an open fireplace and exposed beams, along with a separate dining area.
- There is a laptop with secure wireless internet access.
- The Master Bedroom has panoramic views across Le Marais.
- The large, second bedroom has two single beds.
- A cot and further single bed are available if required in the master bedroom.
- We can also provide a baby bath, changing mat, highchair and plastic crockery & cutlery for young children.

The games room is packed full of fun things to do - with table tennis, table football, lots of board games and puzzles, dressing up clothes and artists materials. There is also an Xbox 360 with many games and a large DVD library.

- Private decked area with BBQ, seating & table.
- The pool area is shared with our other house - Le Vieux Café. There are several loungers and parasols available, along with inflatables & waterwings.
- There is a gravel courtyard with parking for several cars
- Boules Court and lawned area.
- The swimming pool is reached by a gentle slope.
- There are swings in the lower garden.
- Fully equipped gym, complete with rowing machine, 2 bikes, cross-trainer and weights machine.

Conditions

* We will consider allowing pets - please contact us with your requirements.
* Smoking is not allowed in the house, but is allowed in the al fresco dining area.
* Refundable breakages deposit of £100 required and will be refunded within two weeks of your departure (subject to satisfactory property inspection).
* 30% of rental fee is due on booking to secure your stay.
* Remaining 70% is payable 8 weeks prior to your stay.
* Payments are accepted in Euros or Sterling, either by cheque or direct bank transfer.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vendee region

The Vendée is the second sunniest region of France and has lots of excellent beaches from as little as 20 minutes away fromMaison Lairoux. This is the ideal spot for walking or cycling holidays and Lairoux is set on a hill, overlooking the valley below. The countryside is a bird watchers paradise.

There are also 5 golf courses in the area and for a more tranquil day out - Le Marais Poitevin is only 60 minutes away where you can hire boats and take a relaxing trip along the many canals.

The Lairoux area

Lairoux is a small village on a hill overlooking the beautiful Vendée countryside. The house has fantastic views over the marshes below!

Luçon is only 10 minutes away and makes a nice day out with a visit to the 600 year old cathedral or a saunter around the Jardin Dumaine.

The surrounding countryside is great to explore and there are many guided walks around the area - stopping off in many of the picturesque little villages for a coffee or beer - many having weekly markets and brocante or antiques fairs at the weekends.

For a more active holiday, there are many watersports available at La Tranche or Les Sables D'Olonne including surfing, sand kiting, diving and jet skiing.

We are also within 60 minutes drive of the theme parks of Puy de Fou and Futuroscope

L'Ecurie is approximately a 3 hour drive from St Malo, 5 hours from Cherbourg or 7 hours from the Euro Tunnel. The route is mainly on major roads or motorways, and then we are 20 minutes away from Junction 6 on the A83.

Cheap flights with Ryan Air are available to La Rochelle Airport (Approx 40 minutes away), and all major car hire companies are available there. You can also fly in to Nantes Airport which is only 60 minutes away.

“Wonderfully relaxing” Everything about L'Ecurie was great! The location was easy to find, the cottage was exactly as we expected - well! Even better really. Everything that you could have wished for was thought about and catered for.Good quality too :-) Annette and Jason were so accommodating, knowledgable and helpful - even babysat one night and provided us with a taxi! The pool is immense and great for all ages; the games room is so well equipped with a proper size table tennis table, and so many games, toys, books and DVDs to use, we even borrowed beach stuff for our (occasional) trips out. Even with the occasional rain we were never bored. The bbq and patio area are so well situated, either to keep an eye on small people in the pool or for watching the sunset. The cottage itself is very spacious and so are the grounds. We were impressed by the local bread/cake lady who delivers most days. La Tranche is a lovely beach, not just for boarding and a good selection of restaurants. Lots of local markets, supermarkets and good general local facilities as well - including the A+E! Lovely relaxed feel about the place so definitely recommend :-)

We continue to be impressed with the little improvements to this awesome gite - a true "home base" from which a family with young children can explore the fabulous beaches and unique sites around the countryside. We love the pool, the Xbox, fresh croissants with bowls of hot chocolate,awesome BBQ dinners,fresh country air and solitude. Me and the children now think of our hosts Annette and Jason as family in this part of France, and our return here to familiar faces and places feels like coming home. True luxury at the gites, so bring a sense of adventure to explore this beautiful part of France - you will have memories to treasure for a lifetime! Perhaps that is why we have returned for this our 3rd visit, and we all shed a tear when leaving, such an incredible place, and count the weeks 'til our return.

We have had a fantastic week here! Thank you both for making our stay so relaxing and enjoyable and we all appreciate the efforts you went to in making us feel so comfortable and at home. The pool and gardens are lovely and the playroom is a great bonus. We had great fun on the deserted beach at La Faute sur Mer, and La Tranche was good on a rainy day for collecting shells and crabs! We enjoyed our trip to Sables D’Olonne and hope to return next year as there is a lot more exploring to be done! Thanks too for the good restaurant recommendation & babysitting.
