The St James Parish region

The climate in Barbados is considered to be sub-tropical and temperatures for most of the year typically range between 80-86 degrees Fahrenheit (27-30 degrees Celsius).
The beaches on the west coast of Barbados are known for calm, clear water and excellent swimming and snorkelling. The west coast gently nudges the tranquil Caribbean Sea in all its turquoise glory, with soft white sandy beaches.
This coast is perfect and is known as the platinum coast. Famous for its tranquil clear waters, the west coast of Barbados is ideal for water sports; from cruising on a catamaran to jet skiing; water sports operators are never difficult to find. Many of the popular scuba diving areas are located here as well.
In addition there is horse riding, tennis, numerous top class golf courses, Royal Westmoreland and Sandy Lane being the most popular, favoured by the rich and famous all close by. Eating out is a must with so many excellent restaurants to choose from.
This stretch of paradise generally offers the type of anonymity celebrities are hard-pressed to find elsewhere and therefore, Barbados has become a popular escape for some very well known names. It is the location for many of the most exclusive hotels on the island; you will find plenty of bars and restaurants along the beach. Although many of the west coast beaches are hidden from the road by beachfront properties and hotels, don't be discouraged, there are numerous public right of ways so find a path to the sand and enjoy the beautiful beaches!
A car is not essential as there is a very reliable bus service from the end of the road which will take you to the capital of Barbados Bridgetown. Taxis are also readily available. However, the convenience of a car means that you can explore the island at your leisure and there are some fantastic sights to see and many beautiful beaches just waiting to be explored.
The Holetown area
The population is roughly 270,000 and the capital city is Bridgetown located on the southwest coast. Here you will find plenty to do from shopping, sightseeing, horse racing to historic churches and museums.
Barbados is a very safe island for tourists with crime rates being the lowest in the Caribbean region; however you still need to exercise the same caution as you would at home by not leaving valuables on display and not walking around unlit roads at night.
The Island is blessed with a wonderful combination of weather attributes, bright sunshine and cooling breezes virtually all year round. The moderately high daytime temperatures are balanced by refreshing, cooler nights thanks to the trade winds coming in off the Atlantic.
The rainy season in Barbados is from June to November. The good news is that Barbados usually escapes the wrath of the severe tropical storms and hurricanes which come through the Eastern Caribbean. Rather, due to the island's unique easterly location, major weather systems tend to move above or below Barbados. The water in Barbados is safe to drink as it is filtered naturally through the coral limestone rock.
Swimming in Barbados is safe on the west and south coasts as it surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, but you need to exercise caution as you venture up the south east to east and north coasts, as this side is the Atlantic Ocean which is much rougher. Water sports such as Kite boarding, wind surfing and surfing are popular in Barbados as the waves on the south coast are excellent for wind and kite surfing.

Guestbook for Beija Flor
Hi Sharon,
The 2 weeks in the villa were great. We are used to large villas as we go to the USA a lot and yours fitted the bill to perfection. The only thing we might have liked is a safe in the wall but we didn’t need it just got accustomed to find one.
Everything else went like a dream.
Thanks for the rental.

Hello, hope all is well, just a few lines to say how great our holiday was in your wonderful home. My family enjoyed their stay tremendously and will definitely be returning at some time in the future.
PS....thought you'd like to know that I was fortunate enough to find a few places to buy some of the pictures you displayed in your home, both at the museum and also at a place called pelican village in Bridgetown.
I was really pleased about that.
Kindest regards Shirley and Michael

Hi Sharon,
I cannot believe we are back.... this email is sent in utmost misery!
We had a wonderful time in Barbados and your villa was absolutely lovely, a real luxury experience….
Your idea of a stocked pantry is a great one and we - in turn - left lots of things hopefully those following us will benefit where we also did!
I don't think I could recommend your property highly enough and I will definitely be doing so to anyone I know who travels to Barbados. I plan to be back as soon as possible - and if my budget permits and you have availability I hope I can stay in Beija Flor once more.
Kind Regards

Hi Sharon
Firstly can I say what a lovely property you have, and you are to be congratulated on the fixture, fittings and furnishings that you make available to your visitors/guests. I am sure that you may have experienced, as I have over the years, properties where it has been a problem putting together 6 matching cups, thankfully this is most definitely not the case with yours. I hope all visitors show the property the respect and care that your efforts obviously deserve.
Kind Regards

“Thank you Sharon for opening up your lovely Barbados home to us. The décor in the villa is very modern and absolutely everything has been thought of. We were pleasantly surprised at the outside patio area, as it was larger than it looks in the photos. The stocked pantry is also a fantastic idea – no need to rush to the supermarket to stock up on basics as everything is already there! We had a look at the other villas within the gated community, and I think yours has the largest pool – the children loved it. I also loved the ledge running along the side of the pool – ideal to sit on and read a book, whilst cooling my legs in the water. Beija Flor is ideally situated for all the amenities and restaurants on the West Coast (and beyond), and definitely offers great value for money. Loved watching the humming birds during the day, the green monkeys in the trees late afternoon and the fireflies in the evening. We love Barbados and will definitely return to Beija Flor when next we visit the island.”

Nov 2009 – The Roberts Family
We have had the most fantastic holiday at your beautiful home. It had everything that we could want. We didn’t find it necessary to hire a car as it was only a 5 min walk to the beach and 15mins to Holetown (That’s at a 5 and 7 yr olds pace!) Taxis are readily available but we use to love the local buses, which cost about $1 no matter of distance. The local (and excellent) supermarket in Holetown also delivers you and your shopping back to the villa for free.
Both your cleaner and property manager were excellent and always helpful. We will definitely be back in 2010 – our children cried the day we left – a true reflection of an amazing holiday. Thanks Sharon.

Beija Flor is a stunning villa in an ideal location for the beach, local restaurants and amenities. It is equipped with all the requirements you need for a holiday including Ipod stations in all rooms and a barbecue large enough to cater for several people.
As a Golf Professional, I think the location is perfect for golfers who are visiting Barbados as Royal Westmoreland is under 1 km and Sandy Lane approximately 5 kms. The villa has ample space to store your golf equipment and secure as it is alarmed throughout. After 4 hours on the golf course and lunch at the club it was fantastic to return to the villa and then plunge in to the pool to cool off!
This is the 2nd time we have visited the Caribbean (previous visit was to Antigua) and I have to admit, the Baijan people are the most polite and charming I have experienced. Actually, the most polite people I have experienced anywhere!
I am already dreaming of another trip in the not too distant future.
