Idyllically situated, it is within very easy reach of all main amenities and only one hour from the historic city of Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart. Together with its many cultural attractions, it is also an ideal summer/winter location with any number of mountain/water based activities including skiing - five areas ranging from beginner to advanced all within 15-45 minutes driving distance including Gosau/Dachstein West with its 140 km of pistes and 67 lifts and the spectacularly beautiful Kasberg region(see links below) But, if none of this is what your looking for, why not simply take time to 'chill - out' and enjoy the culinary delights of the region!
Bicycles and skiing equipment etc all available for hire in Altmunster/Gmunden
Internally, the house has been extensively renovated and is comfortably furnished, well equipped and has two south-facing sun terraces offering 'views to die for'. The Upper Austria/Salzkammergut region
Never heard of the Salzkammergut region of Austria? Whether it makes you go 'Ahhh' or 'Agh', just think of the 1960's hit British film 'The Sound of Music' and the sights and sounds of this still relatively -undiscovered part of Austria will come flooding back.
Named after its historical links with salt mining in previous centuries, the Salzkammergut is a tourist board carefully kept secret. A by-word for nature at its very best. A kaleidoscope of mesmerising images of lakes, mountains and architecture, both traditional and tantalisingly modern, blending in perfect harmony with one another.
With all that such a region has to offer - 'food for the body, mind, soul and spirit' - this veritable feast is topped - off by the wonders of Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart, only an hour away. Here, visitors can feast their eyes and ears on the sights and sounds of some of the world's most dynamic, emerging artists and musicians and still leave room for some of the 'sweet things of life'. After all, it's part of what being on holiday is all about, isn't it?
To have a foretaste of this and to whet the appetite for more, why not take a few minutes to explore the region by using the links below. (click on the relevant flag on home page for translation)

Gmunden am Traunsee / Altmunster am Traunsee area
191 metres deep, 12 kilometers long, and 3 kilometres wide, Lake Traunsee which is just five minutes drive from the house is named after the river which feeds it and is crowned at its northern most end by Mount Traunstein which at 1691 metres high forms the 'Gateway to the Alps'.
Drawing generations of visitors and entrepreneurs to the region (the lake's pleasure cruiser company was founded by the British in the 1800's), Gmunden has been the administrative centre for the region since 1265.
If that doesn't provide you with a sense of history, older still is the thousand year old, 'Jewel in the Crown', off-shore castle, Schloss Orth. In recent years, largely through the popular television series 'Hotel Schloss Orth', it has become a must - visit feature on many people's holiday itinery. Don't plan to stay there, however. Breakfast you may get, but a bed certainly not.
So, whether you want to be active or just relax, this part of the Austrian Salzkammergut doesn't fail to deliver! A great place for families and individuals alike and with something for everyone (and with a little left over as well), the possibilities are endless. And remember, should you by any chance get the urge to explore further afield, then rest assured, Gmunden is at the hub of transport links for the Salzkammergut and Austria!
So, why not take a 'virtual journey' and explore in a little more comfort of your home by logging on to the links below.
