The County Galway/County Clare region

Unspoiled natural beauty and a spectacular coastline are among the many assets of County Clare. The hospitality of its people, the traditions of Irish Music and Dance, colourful small shops and cozy pubs, traditional cottages and houses are just a few of the attributes of this area. However one of the most famous aspects of this part of the country is the world famous National Park called the Burren.

This unique panorama of grey provides such a stark contrast to Ireland’s proverbial ‘forty shades of green’. The Burren hills are teeming with such geological oddities as labyrinthine cave systems, disappearing streams and lakes, tiered hillsides and oddly dissected pavements. The Burren hosts a spectacular array of over 70% of Ireland’s native flora. For some it is the archaeology that is of most interest in the Burren, with over 500 ring forts and over 80 known Neolithic tombs. For others it is just a place to relax, enjoy the scenery or take in one of the many beautiful walks.

Fanore

Fanore is a very quite coastal village with a beautiful sandy beach making it the ideal family holiday location. The beach, which has a blue flag and life guard on duty all summer, is only 5 minutes walk from the cottages. There are a variety of water sports locally, including surfing (lessons also available for all levels), jet skiing, diving at Black Head (1km), fishing / Sea angling at Black Head and Ballyreen (both 1km), with competitions each August. Horse riding along the spectacular coastline is very popular and all levels are catered for.

All year long Fanore attracts walkers from all over the world to walk in the splendid isolation of the Burren. There are a large variety of walk to choose from varying in length and difficulty. There are also a number of local guides willing to take visitors to more isolated and unexplored areas of the Burren. We are 30 mins. from the no 1 visitor attraction in Ireland, The Cliffs of Moher, – which is now being put forward as one of the 7 natural Wonders of the World. Other visitor attractions include award winning Ailwee and Doolin caves, with the latter boasting the largest stalactite in the Northern Hemisphere. Ailwee also hosts a bird of Prey exhibition daily. The Aran Islands are a short boat trip from Doolin pier and are regarded as one of the last outposts of Gaelic civilisation. Aran Islands
