Pollclabber Cottage, near Doolin, Lisdoonvarna and Wild Atlantic way.
An enchanting cottage in a captivating location - west of Ireland bliss!
As we drove over the hill to Pollclabber Cottage, the full horizon unfolded before us - the world was suddenly rid of clutter and in its place lay an unending expanse of rock, sea and sky! It was for just such a view that we had come to the west of Ireland - captivating!
And Pollclabber Cottage itself echoed that sentiment entirely. It comprised of an original cottage (to the left in the photo of the house) with a sympathetic new extension. In the original, older part of the cottage (and it is over 150 years old here) the walls are over 3 foot thick so you feel very warm and cosy. The solid fuel stove means that, even if it lashes wind & rain outside, you’re snuggled up and comfi inside. In the new part of the cottage, to the right of the front door, there is a glazed sitting area where you can read or just gaze on the surrounding rural garden. Here you can be at one with the landscape and the elements - they wash over you and refresh you ... without you even getting your feet wet!
The gardens themselves must be mentioned because they have been lovingly created and are sympathetic to the surrounding countryside - yet they are also so pretty and refined by comparison. Using the natural stone found in the garden itself, cute little walls provide order and purpose to the whole arrangement but look like they have always been there. The patio at the back of the cottage looks out over Galway Bay – an enchanting view that captures the stillness of the west. The front garden has a beautiful stream and very small waterfall, both of which bubbled forth because of the recent rain but which quietened down within a few hours. This delightful scene can be viewed from the glazed sitting area inside the cottage so is a real & unique feature of this rental.
And if all of these attributes were not enough, Pollclabber Cottage is recently renovated, bright, pristine and very well equipped. The owners also holiday here so it contains all the modern conveniences - and everything works!
I would whole heartedly recommend a stay in this cottage – because it really is more than just a cottage, it is enchantment! …
