BookThe Larnaca region
The region of Larnaca offers not only beaches and mountains, but also the perfect base for exploring all the treasures that Cyprus has to offer.
Larnaca is a major city and one of the six districts in the Republic of Cyprus, which has continuous and uninterrupted history extending for 4000 years. In ancient times.
The Choirokoitia area
Hillside House is situated on a development (Gemstone Village) on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Choirokoitia, an archaeological site which is rich in historical significance, and has been listed as a World Heritage Site for over ten years. Whilst the village itself is in a rural location, it is also conveniently situated between the three large cities of Cyprus, Nicosia, Larnaca, and Limassol, all of which are accessible by car within 30 minutes. This scenic village is the perfect location for enjoying the best of both worlds, exploring the tourist attractions that Cyprus has to offer, whilst providing a relaxing retreat in a peaceful location.
The village of Choirokoitia has many historical attractions which can still be enjoyed today, making it a popular area for archaeologists. The Neolithic Cypriots lived in circular huts made from clay, stone and sun-dried mud bricks, and it is thought that these huts were arranged in circles, each one providing a room in the Cypriot home. These interesting and quirky buildings are open for the public to view.
If you prefer a more active holiday, a ten minute drive takes you to the local Governor's Beach, which offers horse riding, fishing, cycling. Around the house there are many nature trail walks created by the local Community Council. These nature trails are a wonderful way to enjoy the picturesque views, the paved streets and the characteristic houses in the Choirokoitia. The beautiful village of Zygi (with its newly renovated marina) is also a ten minute drive away, and here you will find stunning deep blue sea and fresh fish restaurants.
Further afield are the sights of Nicosia, Larnaca and Limassol. Here you will find the year-round tourist attractions of glorious beaches, beautiful architecture, lively restaurants, and annual events such as the Limassol Wine Festival. Nicosia is surrounded by the Kyrenian Mountains and is a modern city with tree lined avenues and a lovely traditional Old Town area. Larnaca has a lovely seafront which is lined with palm trees, and hosts a stunning marina and a daily local market. Limassol has a medieval castle, local galleries, and is famous for its wine production. Just outside of Limassol you will find Fasouri Watermania, which offers the largest selection of water slides and attractions in Cyprus. There are several excellent golf courses in Cyprus, most of which are situated in scenic hillside locations around the tourist areas of Larnaca and Paphos.
For shoppers there are numerous markets held in Cyprus throughout the week, where you can find all sorts of unique items including Cypriot ceramic jugs and bowls, costume jewellery, bags, clothing, and tourist souvenirs. Local produce is also sold at these markets and you can pick up fresh meat, fish, cheese and homemade jams and condiments. The markets are held in Larnaca on Saturdays and Sundays, and throughout the week in Limassol and Nicosia.
Limassol also offers a unique shopping experience with shops such as The Nut Cracker House where you can sample local delicacies, and the cobbled streets of Makarious Avenue where you can peruse trendy designer fashion shops and sellers of crystal and porcelain.
Cyprus is also perfectly placed for exploring this corner of the Mediterranean. Day trips/short breaks to Egypt and other countries in the region are inexpensive and easy to fit into your holiday.
With such easy access to so many attractions, you can be guaranteed that whatever type of holiday you're looking for, the rustic village of Choirokoitia is the perfect place to experience this wonderful country.

Modern accommodation, tastefully furnished. An excellent base, ideally situated to explore the many historical locations on this Mediterranean island. |

Excellent value money! Modern, fresh and spotlessly clean accommodation and a beautiful swimming pool that we had to ourselves most of the time. We loved the location, plenty of authentic Cypriot eateries nearby and only a 10 minute drive from the beach. We explored many places including Limassol, Larnaca, Nicosia and Paphos. Having visited these busy and lively towns, we were pleased to come back to the peace and tranquility of Hillside House. We enjoyed spending time exploring the local villages. Zygi on the coast was great for seafood restaurants and we found a wonderful Cypriot restaurant in Tochni, 'The Tochni Tavern' - a great atmosphere there on the BBQ night when we visited. A trip to Kykkos Monastery in the Troodos mountains is also well worth a visit. We would definitely recommend Hillside House for anyone looking for the real Cyprus experience. We enjoyed our relaxing break in the Cyprus sunshine and look forward to coming back next year. |
