Maison Danton
About the home
The ground floor is entirely open plan to give a spacious airy living room with an open plan kitchen, circular dining table and a chaise longue. A small tv connects to French channels.
With windows at the front and side of the house, sunlight streams into the house reflected by the simple white walls. Wooden shutters on the windows allow for security and to reduce the impact of the midday sun during the summer months. Electric heaters in each room make Maison Danton suitable as all year round holiday accommodation.
At the very top of the house with views over the rooftops is a deceptively spacious roof terrace. Access is via a glass door situated within the twin bedroom. A second dining table and chairs on the terrace allow for alfresco dining or just relaxing in the sunshine. With no through traffic, Maison Danton is a corner of tranquillity in what can be a lively village during the summer months.
With over 300 days of sunshine per year and some of the best weather available within France, Maison Danton is an ideal holiday destination. Whether looking for some relaxing summer sunshine, visiting winemakers, travelling along the canal du midi by boat, bicycle or even on foot Villeneuve is a superb location to rest for a while.

The Beziers / Villeneuve Les Beziers area
Villeneuve les Beziers is a bustling village on the Canal du Midi. Villeneuve is still predominantly a wine growing village although more recently the rise in tourism in this area has brought a second vibrant industry. New restaurants and bars have opened for visiters and locals alike, flowers adorn street corners, window boxes and patios during most of the year and Villeneuve has become an all year round holiday location. This is in contrast to many of the coastal villages which effectively close during the off-season.
The village offers a host of services: There are a number of market stalls selling fresh produce, 3 bakers, a general store, 2 cafes, 4 restaurants, a pizzeria, a post office and an impressive new Mediatheque with computers available for the internet. Just outside of the village (approximately 1km away) is a multiscreen cinema with 12 screens in total, more restuarants, shops and a large hypermarket. Villeneuve has municipal tennis courts if you feel energetic and a path along the canal du Midi offers pleasant canalside walks or cycle rides.

We stayed here with our 2 young children (5&7) and had a lovely, relaxing time. The house is in the peaceful, charming, old quarter of town and had been tastefully refurbished. It made a great base for a relaxing visit to see family in the area where we could easily reach gorgeous beaches, the superb food and flower markets in centre of Beziers and the beautiful countryside and national parks stretching for miles around. The kitchen is modern and well equipped enough to be able to prepare meals at home. The bedrooms are well presented and the beds are quite comfortable. With the shutters closed and in such a peaceful area we all slept really well. It was quite cool at night when we stayed and their were additional heaters available. The owner was easy to book with, helpful and friendly. We would say you need a car or be prepared to use use taxis if you want to explore the area as there are only a couple of local buses. On street parking was readily available 200 metres away. There were a couple of little niggles. The hot water tank is small so for 4 of us staying we couldn't all shower in the morning as the hot water runs out within minutes. The bed covers on the single beds were very thin and the children were a bit cold one night . We only had 2 bath towels and 2 hand towels for 4 of us; bring extra. Directions to the house were from the motorway from Paris but we arrived from Beziers airport and it took a bit of local knowledge to get on the right road. You can't get any phone reception at the house - you need to walk out of the old town. Overall this is a lovely little house in a beautiful part of France and good value for money too. Would stay here again - Thank you Julia |
