The area is known as the Ireland West region The weather is normally very changeable. There are many historical sights in the area The Country Museum near Castlebar shows very interesting insights into the past. Other palces of interest Ashford Castle and Cong Scene of the world famous film The Quiet Man. Angling is one of our main attractions with many Lakes and rivers in the area including Loughs Mask, Corrib, Conn and Carra., Ther are prime Salmon rivers here including Moy, Errif. Delphi, Ballinahinch system and Galway system.Knock is very popular with pilgrims from all over the World coming there,The Galway Races the last week in July brings thousands of visitors to the area.There are a variety of Golf courses in the region all first class.
Balinrobe is situated in South Mayo and is very central to the folllowing locations 30 minutes drive from Castlebar, Westport, Knock Airport, 45 Minutes drive from Galway, Connemara,35 Minutes from Wild Atlantic Way There are three major lakes,Mask, Corrib, Carra. close by, the World Cup angling competition is held every year at the August weekend with up to 600 competitors each year, April May probably the best times for Angling.
Ballinrobe has the only horse racing course in Mayo with 9 meetings every year, (Dates fo 2015 Tuesday 5th May, Monday,Tuesday 25th26th May Tuesday 26th June Monday Tuesday 20th21st July Monday 10th August.)World famous Galway races only 30 Minutes away 27th July to 2nd August.
It also has one of the top 18 hole Golf Courses in the Country with many and varied courses a short drive from us.
Equestrian sports are very popular here.
You are only a short drive away from Wild Atlantic Way voted the most scenic area in Europe.
The Circle of the Lakes has to be one of the most spectaculer drives any where taking in Loughs Mask. Corrib and across the mountains over Lough Nafoohey to Leenane scene of the film the Field and has the longest Fhord in Europe with pit stops in Cong (Quiet Man, Ashford Castle). and the Beautiful Clonbur. Follow Wild Atlantic Way from Leenane to Westport and back To Ballinrobe and lakeshore.
Walking and Hiking are very popular with excelent Lakeside and Mountain walks close by.
