The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Vaucluse region

Vaucluse is bordered by the Rhône and the River Durance which help cultivate a great range of fruit and vegetables in those most fertile plains in southern France. The Mountains are part of the landscape with Mont Ventoux (1,912 m), also called "the Giant of Provence", dominating Dentelles de Montmirail, the Monts de Vaucluse, and the Luberon. The Vaucluse département has a rather large exclave within the Drôme department, the canton of Valréas (Enclave des Papes).
In the heart of Provence, you will meet exceptional natural sites together with important cultural and architectural heritages. Throughout the Vaucluse, between hills and mountains, lavender fields, wild gorges and ochre cliffs, you will appreciate hiking and bathing on your way in natural beaches as Gorges du Toulourenc, horse riding, rock climbing, cycling or just visiting charming and picturesque villages. Vaucluse is also popular for its colourful markets, its sunny cuisine and its Provencal traditions.
In winter, you can go skiing or snowshoeing at the family ski station of the MONT SEREIN (Mont Ventoux hills).
The Avignon / Mazan area
Mazan is part of the Comtat Venaissin and with its 5500 inhabitants, the village is in the midst of VAUCLUSE area. It is surrounded with famous and unmissable mountains and natural gorgeous sites. Based in the Roman land, Mazan was a Meminy territory during the roman period, and you can still meet the centuration traces going through the 50 ha paths from north to south, climbing up to the Alpes. 66 sarcopharguses can be seen round the cemetery, just like an acropolis. The museum is open from june to september, the Cemetery, sarcopharguses and the church can be seen all year long. The wide central area includes a large and social center café where the local population mingle in friendly discussions. The village deserves supermarkets, a butcher, baker's and confectionner's shops, and a chemistry.

We had a lovely stay at this quaint cabanon in Provence. We woke up every day to our homecooked breakfast on the terrace, with the sounds of bees buzzing in the lavender bushes by the poolside, and a fantastic view of vineyards and mountains in all directions around us. We spent our days either reading and relaxing by the pool, taking long walks in the many marked trails in the nearby woods, or driving to scenic and historic towns like Orange, Lourmarin, Gordes, St. Remy-en-Provence, or Arles. For dinners, we sometimes bought steaks from the local butcher in the nearby town of Mazan and grilled them on the barbecue pit on the property, or we drove into town and enjoyed a pizza with what seemed like the rest of the town (at the pizza place with the blue awning). The cabanon is a beautifully renovated property with modern appliances and is perfect for a couple or single traveler seeking to absorb the stunning surroundings of Provence. Catherine and Christophe, the owners, are a charming couple, who live within a few minutes' drive of the property. While they respect your privacy, they also attend to whatever need arises during your stay. All in all, we had a lovely time at the cabanon and would recommend it to all friends and family who are seeking to soak up some authentic Provencal living. |

Where do I start, I wanted a relaxing holiday in lovely peaceful and private surroundings with a private pool and I got it. Please do not be put off by the size of this place it is in the most relaxing environment you could wish for, yes it is small but this is all about the area and the surroundings and this has it. An open valley to one side, the Luberon range to the south and the most spectacular view of Mont Ventoux you could wish for. The owner was lovely, Catherine, met us explained everything, showed us where to go, which markets to visit and even gave us a lovelly bottle of very local wine which turned me from a very established white drinker into a very avid luberon/ventoux valley red drinker. If you want rest, quiet, relaxation, beautiful surroundings and great wine this is for you. |
