Apremont, is a pretty village with a medieval Chateau, a large lake and a sandy beach with picnic areas . You can hire pedalos, flat-bottomed boats and canoes to paddle leisurely around the lake. Once you've worked up an appetite you can justify trying out the bar and restaurant which have stunning views over the lake.
The heated swimming pool is set in the large enclosed mature gardens. The pool has integral steps leading into the shallow end - ideal for children.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vendee region

Vendée and loire atlantique
Vendée is comfortably nestled between Brittany and Charente Maritime. It has a unique micro-climate, which means you get as much sunshine as in the sunny south but without having to travel as far. 140kms of sandy beaches bask in the heat and there's some excellent surf on offer.
The Vendée offers five 18- hole golf courses, museums of every kind, 380km of cycle paths, prehistoric monuments and wildlife galore. How does one region fit it all in?
If you like the idea of miles of golden sand, sloping into sparkling sea - and let's face it, who wouldn't - then the Vendée is the place for you. It's about the size of Devon or Cumbria, but with much more sunshine and a passion for watersports. The beaches here are truly stunning and will ruin you for any other beaches as you'll forever be comparing them and finding others are 'just not quite up to the Vendée standard'.
Local Food and Drink
The Nantais vineyards on the outskirts of Nantes welcome visitors and you are invited to taste their wines. The nearby old town of Ancenis is something of a local wine centre.
The larder of the Loire is one of the richest in France, with fish from the Atlantic, shellfish from the estuary and freshwater fish from the rivers. Vegetables grow in abundance, and since the locals have a very sweet tooth, tarts and pies using fresh local fruits feature prominently in local dishes.
There are plenty of local cheeses to try, made from goat’s sheep and cow’s milk. Bondaroy au Foin is a soft cow’s milk cheese with a tangy flavour cured in hay, while Chabichou Fermier is a strong cone-shaped goat’s cheese. Cremet is a mild creamy cow’s milk cheese often eaten with jam or fruit as a dessert, while Olivet Bleu is a rich blue cheese wrapped in plane tree leaves.
What to do
Maison Blanc is just a 20 minute drive to the Atlantic coast, close to the seaside towns of St Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, St-Jean-de-Monts, and Les Sable de L’Onnes. St Gilles is alive with restaurants overlooking the marina, while Les Sable has long sandy beaches, a harbour and wonderful shops and restaurants. The more sophisticated resort of La Rochelle, with its large harbour, beautiful boats, wonderful restaurants and superb shopping is just over an hour’s drive away.
The Vendee Region
Spend a day discovering the natural history of the Vendee Marshes with its traditionally constructed buildings, salt marshes and conservation site which is working to protect breeds of animals and varieties of plants from the past. Or visit the museum dedicated to painter Charles Milcendeau in Le Bois Durand – his former home, which he decorated with unusual and colourful Mozarabic frescos.
Golf in the Vendee
The Vendee has a fine selection of golf courses available to use. Situated in beautiful surroundings these fantastic courses can’t fail to please even the most seasoned golfers.
Port – Bourgenay is one of the most popular courses in the Vendee. The course is situated on the edge of the ocean and borders an enclosed forest. The course also overlooks the Port of Bourgenay. (18 holes, par 72, 6392 yd)
Formule Golf Pass
If you intend to play a lot of golf during your stay it is possible buy a formule golf pass which entitles you to unlimited use within a certain amount of days. For more information about the formule golf pass or details of other courses in the Vendee please visit http://www.golfbourgenay.com/ and click onto the “Pays de Loire” section.
Fishing in the Vendee
Its fishing is one of the Vendee’s undeniable assets. Sea-fishing, shellfish hunting on the beach, surf-casting by the sea and freshwater fishing are all pastimes you can enjoy.
For the youngest in the family, there are camps focusing on the discovery of fishing and nature, while for practiced anglers there are five reservoirs where you can fish for Zander and Perch.
Devotees of night-fishing can choose from among several stretches of carp streams, and you can also fish for eels. You will need a holiday license to fish (Carte Peche-Vacances) these are available from tackle shops. (The locations of the tackle shops are available from the tourist office as well as the locations of local fishing lakes and rivers) The license costs around £20. The Vendee is a true paradise for fishermen.
Sea fishing in the Vendee
Boat trips are available from the fishing ports of St Gilles-Croix-de Vie and Les Sables-d-Olonne. Take advantage of the experience of the local fishermen as they guide you out to the best spots for catching fish.
Cycling in the Vendee
Vendee now offers a vast network of excellent quality cycle tracks for riding in complete safety. So far, 765 km of cycle tracks have been created, and by 2010, it will be possible to undertake a complete tour of Vendee by bike, over more than 1,000 km. On the cycle tracks, everything has been put in place to ensure maximum safety: designated cycle lanes or on very quiet roads, the necessary signposting... To optimize your pleasure, cycle tracks pass through remarkable site landscapes:
Vendee’s network of cycle tracks has the benefit of always being in perfect harmony with the natural elements. And to make your outing even more pleasant, picnic areas, safety barriers and guard rails have been provided along the entire length of the tracks wherever necessary.
Seaside activities:
Fun boarding in the Vendee
As a coastal department, the Vendee has always been open to the sea and its influences.
Its special position, its winds and its sun offer opportunities, to beginners as well as enthusiasts, to enjoy all forms and variations of sailing and water sports along its 250 km of coastline. So take to the sea, whether in an old fully-rigged ship or a small sailing boat... Who knows, perhaps one day it’ll lead you to set off on the Vendee Globe!
Surfing in the Vendee.
All along the Vendee coast, the fine swells coming in from the open ocean offer excellent surfing conditions.
The rocks help create great waves and the sandbanks give fast-moving crests.
www.wannasurf.com
Sand-yachting in the Vendee
The Vendee is a well-known and recognised destination for sand-yachting, with the longest beaches on the western coast, exceptionally fine wind conditions, facilities tailored to cater for your passion, and, above all, all this is available throughout the year. Sand-yachting is an activity that is easily accessible to anyone, and quickly provides thrills for all-comers in complete safety. The whistling of the wind in your sails, the gentle noise of the sand under your wheels, the wide open spaces and the long runs... sand-yachting is communion with the beach, the wind and the sea, an original getaway pursuit within the reach of anyone.
The Apremont area
Apremont, is a pretty village with a medieval Chateau, a large lake and a sandy beach with picnic areas . You can hire pedalos, flat-bottomed boats and canoes to paddle leisurely around the lake. Once you’ve worked up an appetite you can justify trying out the bar and restaurant which have stunning views over the lake.
Apremont lake.
The perfect location for a fishing holiday in France with friends or family. A superb lake offering the angler all types of species & record carp, this wonderfully presented lake offers all the family enjoyment while the anglers of the family can fulfill their passion, and all within walking distance from your holiday home.
There are also local attractions offering horse riding, cycling, quad-biking and go-karts. A velo-rail (like a rail-cycle) will take you through 10kms of countryside over the former railway line near Coax.
There are also many superb walks through open countryside, or along the coast.
St Gilles-croix-de-vie
Famed for its fresh sardines. Look for the vintage ones (sardines millésimées) which are supposed to be laid down like fine wine! Even the canned variety are treated with respect. For children with short attention spans there is a tiny museum, the Maison du Pecheur, which used to be a fisherman’s cottage (approx 10 miles).
St Jean-de-monts.
A beautiful sandy beach, which the locals consider one of the most stunning in France (if not the world). If you can wrench yourself and the family from your favourite spot on the sand, it also has great watersports. Or if you or your children fancy yourselves as the next Jamie Oliver, then hot-foot it to the Saturday morning market a couple of miles away for superb fresh produce.
Les Sable de L’Onnes.
Is a major resort town. It features many opportunities for dining out, ranging from fine French cuisine to an English bars offering Sunday roast dinners. Stroll along the quayside of an evening or enjoy any of the local bars and cafes on the promenade that run alongside what can only be described as one of the very best beaches on the west coast of france, currently hosting the worlds largest surfing events as seen on sky sports, one of the best beaches in the area. The Atlantic Toboggan park provides an action packed fun day for all the family with an array of daring water slides. The vendee offers an array of attractions for both adult and non adult for more information please refer to our places of interest within our site.

My husband and myself stayed at Maison Blanc in September and had a wonderful, relaxing holiday. Apremont is an ideal base for touring and there are plenty of places to see, including the coast, just a short drive away. The house was very well equipped and we were so at home that by the end of the holiday neither of us wanted to leave. However all good things must come to an end. Thank you Paul for the use of your home. Response: Thank you so much for your comments and pleased you and your husband really enjoyed your stay. We work very hard to ensure everyone has a pleasent and comfortable holiday. Thank you again for your booking and we look forward to you returning in the future. |

Whilst a lot of the tourist attractions were finished for the season and the weather was changeable, it was still warm enough to take walks around the local area which was quiet and pretty and there were still enough things to do with a teenage family to stop them getting bored; the local towns were well worth a visit for shopping. Eating out in Apremont was difficult but again there was plenty of choice when we travelled a few miles to the coast. If you want a quiet getaway I would recommend October, despite 1 day of rain we were able to get out and about everyday. Response: Thank you so much for your comments and pleased you and your family really enjoyed your holiday. We work very hard to ensure everyone has a pleasent and comfortable stay. Thank you again for your booking and we look forward to you returning in the future. |

We enjoyed a weeks stay in July 2010. The property was welcoming and offered comfort with very good facilities. It is very well maintained and you can see the owners take great pride in maintaining high standards. The gardens are well kept and include a swimmimg pool to cool off during hot afternoons. The rural location offers peace and quiet and is close to a small charming village with a bar and restaurant. Maison Blanc lies some 20 minutes from the coast and there are a number of small resorts offering good beaches, shops, restaurants and outdoor pursuits for children. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the holiday home to both couples and families looking for a coastal retreat. Response: Thank you so much for your comments and pleased you and your family really enjoyed your stay. We work very hard to ensure everyone has a pleasent and comfortable stay.Thank you again for your booking. |

We had a great time thank you. The pictures on the website do not do the villa justice. It far exceeded our expectations. The whole family made full use of the pool and the barbecue and outdoor eating. Well done. You have thought of everything when equipping the villa. I will certainly recommend the villa to friends and family. Thank you so much for providing the perfect holiday home.

Hi Paul, We had a wonderful time and would recommend Maison Blanc. It was everything and more that the website said. It was ideal for my mother-in-law who is disabled with everything on the one level. She says that your holiday home far exceed her expectations and that the pictures did not do it justice. I had forgotten what a lovely place Apremont was. I'm sure that we will be back to book again at some point.

We had a great holiday and found the house comfortable and well equipped. We made good use of the heated pool which was lovely for April. We loved just sunbathing around the pool and the children enjoyed playing in the garden. You have put a lot of thought into equipping the house and providing info on the area with practicalities like supermarkets and restaurants which was very helpful.
