The Campania region

Campania is an incredibly interesting region, not only for its famous holiday resorts like Sorrento, Capri, Positano and Amalfi but also for its historical sites like Pompeii, Herculaneum, Cuma and Paestum.

Naples unfortunately has a bad reputation, (not deserved today) but it is one of the most stimulating cities of Italy. It was the capital of a kingdom for centuries and its palaces, churches and monuments reflect the incredible culture that was once concentrated here.

The Archeological Museum is renowned for its antique Roman and Greek artifacts, The Capodimonte Museum has a wonderful collection of Renaissance art and The San Carlo theatre is well worth a visit.

The island of Capri is probably one of the most stunning islands in the world. It is only quite small and has two main towns, Capri and Anacapri.

It enjoys a wonderful temperate climate and there is always a nice cool breeze blowing off the sea even on the hottest day. There are lots of places to visit, nearly all on foot, as most of the island is pedestrian. This adds to its charm and peace.

Capri is the bigger town, more sophisticated and bustling with its many famous restaurants and designer boutiques.

Anacapri is much quieter, with the atmosphere of a typical Mediterranean village. The Swedish doctor and writer Axel Munthe lived here and his home is a popular museum today. Gracie Fields and Graham Green also chose Anacapri as their residence.

"A wonderful holiday apartment in delightful location,"

We know Capri well and so were assured of at least a great holiday- but it exceeded our high expectations. This little place is so lovely. If you are on a budget, getting about Capri by 'bus is easy and the service is regular. The walk to Anacapri takes about 20 mins and is an easy walk- better than a sticky bus ride. The local shopkeepers will deliver to the property (one even gave us a ride too!). Taxis are a nice way to get about and the ride from La Terrazza to Capri is 25 Euros. Eating out in Anacapri is good fun and great value. We tried lots of places in Anacapri- Le Arcate is very good (they are one of the few places with a wood-burning pizza oven), Nautillus Bar is very friendly with delicious coffee. If you go out for dinner then take a torch as there is no streetlighting on Via Grotta Azzurra. Italian peaches are the best in the world and they are in abundance. Candace and Peppino are super hosts (as is Piccolo, their dog) and they provide just the right level of support- friendly help and advice when you need it; absolute courtesy and privacy at all other times. Cooking is limited as there's only a two ring gas hob - but there's so much salad, fresh veg and fish available that cooking is very minimal anyway. We did lots of walking and plenty of swimming and sunbathing. You can walk to the old fortifications (where Britain fortified the island during the Napoleonic wars) and visit Roman Emperor Tiberius' last home. We also spent time at the wonderful shops in Capri - it's better than Bond Street in London (the staff in Prada, MiuMiu, Gucci, Tod's, Ferragamo and so on are so much more helpful than in London). Capri is a fabulous place and La Terrazza is a wonderful property at which you can enjoy a great holiday.

"Idyllic setting, unforgettable views, great for relaxing."

We had the pleasure of visiting two of Italy's vacation destinations, Capri and Camogli (Italian Riviera). There is no doubt Capri offered us what we were seeking, tranquility, ease of mobility, and spectacular views. This vacation rental property totally offered us exactly what we were seeking and we'll definitely return. We've already recommended this rental to a friend who is planning a trip to Italy. Things we loved best were how quiet and lovely the property was and the island bus stop was a short walk away. 1.60 euro gets you into the town square of Anacapri where you can enjoy a cappuccino, lunch, or do some shopping and bring back something to cook in your cottage. You can also take a transfer at the bus station stop and take another bus to the lighthouse where there is a wonderful swimming area and great restaurant, a nice place to spend the day or you can go to Capri. Capri is full of shops and tourists, but it is to be explored at least once. For us, we preferred to shop in Anacapri, because it had less tourists and we enjoyed visiting with the people who live there who were very friendly. We found great sandals, linen shirts, and ceramics to bring back. There is another smaller cottage on site and we hope to return with family the next time we return to Italy. We have the best memories of Anacapri!

"location and views surpass any holiday brochure"

We were looking for a unique location for our 30th Anniversary, and we found it ! We expected sun and a lovely island,as a base to travel over and see the joys of the Amalfi coast, we got much much more. We didn't leave Capri as there was so much to do and see around the island. La Terraza is perfectly adequate for 2 people, well equipped with stunning views from each position, the outdoor dining area, the pool terrace and the fantastic rooftop terrace, day and night. A short hop on cheap local buses to Anacapri town and from there around the rest of the island, it is possible to walk but in the heat of summer can be draining. Our Thanks to Candace and her husband for making our stay memorable, full of information and help.

"Sea View, Picturesque Surroundings and an Excellent Pool"

La Terrazza is set on the hillside with views over the sea, amongst the immaculate gardens of the owners. The property is located away from Anacapri, which is a 25 minute walk away or 5 minutes by bus. It has a well maintained pool, which again offers a sea view. Candace was there to welcome us and offer her advice on the do's and don'ts on staying on the island as well as her recommendations of where to eat. The accommodation is clean with a small kitchen area and comfortable beds but you spend most of your time outside either sitting at either of the terraces or by the pool. It is an ideal place to relax after a days sight seeing or just enjoying a drink before or after dinner. The nearest restuarant, Il Cucciolo, is a 5 minute walk away and apart from the wonderful food offers the best place to watch the sunset over the island of Ischia. Two other restaurants situated at either side of the island are Lido de Faro and Le Grottelle, both again have excellent views to go with the food. There are plenty of interesting things to see if you are prepared to walk rather than using the buses and, expensive, taxis. There is the Old Forts walk on the west of the island and the Pizzolungo in the south, which offers views of the Faraglioni rocks. Both of these are free from the vast numbers of day trippers. You can also walk from Anacapri to Capri down the old footpath consisting of 800 steps, which offers wonderful views of the island. However, the islands main attraction, the Blue Grotto, is over rated and over priced. Fully expecting the grotto to be filled with a blue light, you are in fact in complete darkness with the blue water only visible around the entrance. The 3 or 4 minutes you spend in there are not worth the entrance fee. In fact you can take a 2 hour around-the-island boat trip and swim through the green grotto for a better experience. I was surprised as to how much there was to see on the island if you were prepared to venture out on your own and not get lured into any of the organised excursions.
