Description from owner

First have a look at Saleh's wadirumtours web-site -- you will see why Wadi Rum is one of the most special locations in the world!! Then notice how many 5*-star reviews Saleh has been awarded here on this site. Now you know why you must reorganise your visit to Jordan so you can stay overnight after a memorable day touring in Rum. You're also choosing to make a difference! Not only is this the most cost-effective luxury bed-and-breakfast in Jordan, but it's also pioneering, community-tourism with a wonderful bedouin family! The money you spend goes directly to them.

Your accommodation is quite simply a luxury bedouin tent -- a careful blend of the traditional and modern. It's like stepping into a Lawrence of Arabia movie, settling around the camp fire to the passing sounds of camels! and eating fresh from the bar-b-q. Next door, camouflaged into the rocks is a newly-built small shower and WC block, with ceramic tiles, a proper sit-down loo and running water (though please do not use too much).

There are three sleeping areas, each with beds and lots of fleece blankets

You have a choice. Either one of the small cluster of romantic, bedouin tents in the heart of the Wadi Rum protected area, (9 kms or so from Rum village but still within mobile-phone reach), or there's a more modern camp within Rum village itself, more sheltered and with an open fire, high-speed wifi and extra insulation.

In either case, you will have the chance to sample the wonderful food cooked by Saleh's wife Alia -- this is unique in Rum, many of the other camps use imported, non-bedouin cooks; it's not the same! Saleh and Alia are running a family-friendly family business!

Interaction with guest

Saleh will meet you when you arrive in Rum village, with bedouin tea and hospitality; he'll discuss how you wish to shape your personal, individual visit and will then take you touring or to his luxury small camp in the heart of the Wadi Rum nature reserve. You can leave your bags and your vehicle, if you have one, at his house in the village, before you set out on your adventure. Unlike other guides in Rum, Saleh and his wife Alia provide an authentic bedouin family experience, giving you the chance not just to visit this special place but to share another way of life, in harmony with nature.

Very Good

“Most amazing and personalized Wadi Rum experience imaginable.”

Reviewed 7 Jan 2015

I feel so lucky to have found Saleh and Alia and their wonderful family! I stayed two full days and one night in Wadi Rum as a solo traveler. I felt so well cared for, and really got to appreciate the beauty of this place. Atique (Saleh's brother) was a great guide, and took me to a ridge where I saw one of the most beautiful sunsets of my life. Alia is so warm and welcoming, as is Saleh, and Saleh's mom too! I was able to eat dinner with them the night I stayed...delicious. I highly recommend this experience, and these are the people to do it with.

“Very personalized and authentic experience - we loved it!”

We stayed 3 days with Attic and his brother, in their beautiful camp in the Wadi Rum desert. The camp is remote. It was only us the first two nights. We could sleep under the stars or in cabins as we preferred, ate simple but good food. Attic welcomed us like family. The 4x4 tour was memorable, for instance he went down a slope so steep we thought we would roll over. He showed us water sources hidden in the rocks, gave us camel milk to taste, guided us through crazy mazes of rocks, chased a big lizard and even lit a small fire to make the lizard escape his hole, in pure bedhuin style. Our kids were extatic! Our stay in Wadi Rum would not have been the same on our own. Thank you so much, Attic!

“A truly beautiful experience in every way.”

I found out about the tour of Wadi Rum with WadRum tours from a site belonging to Tudor Lomas who has had many years experience of Jordan and writes beautifully about the country. He recommended Saleh and his personalised tours and this proved absolutely merited. It was a really amazing experience and I found Saleh and his family to be warm and friendly with a genuine concern for his guests to ensure everything was provided as promised. Booking the tour was easy and I was able to contact Saleh directly by email and phone to make arrangements once I had submitted a booking on line. Tudor was also very helpful in arranging contact with Saleh and providing other details. Saleh arranged a pick up and return to Petra where I was staying. I was a female traveling alone so it was helpful to know that the drivers were recommended by Saleh. The trip from Petra took about an hour along the kings highway and the desert highway- the latter being a busy route with trucks taking goods from Aqaba north to Amman. It was a bit hairy in parts as the taxis weave in and out around these trucks at high speed with inches to spare. You need to take plenty of water however the drivers usually make sure they offer to stop to get some- mine actually bought me an ice cream too- how kind! The tour itself started at Saleh's house ( he also has a bedouin home in the desert itself) where you take fantastic Bedouin tea and meet his lovely family and he briefed on the tour. I had only booked a full day tour as was not able to stay overnight however when I mentioned to Saleh that I would have loved to have seen the desert at night he insisted that I stay late and have dinner and watch the sunset over Wadi Rum! And then made arrangements with the drivers to allow this to happen. Saleh also made the tour to suit the traveller. I was seeking the peace of the desert and to view it's splendour rather than tackle climbs and dunes or sand board (although I did have a go), so the day was focussed around this-and it was amazing!!!! So if you want anything from Saleh you just need to ask, but he is so good he knows what is right. The day is mildly strenuous with some walking, a bit of climbing, hopping in and out of the open 4 wheel drive if you are able and hot!!!! All the water, food and refreshments are provided and are very good. The tea is a must!!!!!!! The tour is terrific value and I would highly recommend it. It differs from the other tours on offer as it is very personally tailored, focussed on what you want from the day, and you are with guides who know the territory and want very much to share the experience with you. The Bedouin camp is lovely and clean and really well set out. The food is cooked by Saleh's wife Alia who is a lovely person. I was mot able to stay the night but would certainly do so next time.

“If you do one thing for your children let it be this!”

We travel a lot with our three children (12, 7,4) and they get to see lots of interesting things. There highest praise is usually that they are going to bring their children here some day. Well after our stay with Saleh and his family our 7 year old did one better and announced 'when I grow up I am going to be a Bediouin'. Wadi Rum is a magical place with all the Lawerence of Arabia romance. But it is a place of thrills and laughter as and family. Saleh is a charming and fully fluent in English. His wife, mother and children were less able to speak to us but still managed to take great care of us and create a warm friendly environment. We stayed New Year's Eve unfortunately only for one night. We began on camels which was hilarious and fun then transfered to a 4x4 for a exhilerating ride . Stopped for Sand boarding (bring something to secure your glasses) . Had a wonderful campfire lunch , climbed rock bridges which made your legs shake from fear and generally explored and fell in love with the desert red sands. The tent at night was more luxurious than I was expecting. But then I was expecting to sleep just outside on the sand. There were matteress on the floor and fluffy blankets etc. plus electric light! The washrooms were kept very clean and though not luxerious were more than adequate. The pit cooked meal was scruptious and then we reclined in the warm glow of the fire and were treated to the music of a friend of Saleh (even Saleh sang) traditional songs and made up new songs. Magnificent! If you do go try to get out of the tent in the late night to glimpse the stars. I cannot recommend Saleh and his whole family more than to say...'I would definately bring my children here' Oh and we had our 68 year old grandma long as well.

“A fabulous experience that I am recommending to my friends.”

Saleh, his family and associates all combined to make our short stay interesting and enjoyable. Wadi Rum is truly spectacular and an overnight stay in Saleh's camp is the best way to experience it.

“Warmth of our host only matched by the breathtaking surroundings”

Reviewed 5 Jul 2011

This was an absolutely stunning trip. Our only regret was that we didn't have time to stay for longer (we stayed for a day and a night but it could easily have been 2-3 nights). Our host, Saleh, a Bedouin who has lived in Wadi Rum his whole life, truly lived up to the Bedouin reputation for hospitality. From the moment we arrived, sitting and chatting over some tea (which we couldn't get enough of!), he welcomed us into his lovely family. We then set off into the desert, a place of such epic vastness, drama and traquility rolled into one, that for a lot of the time we were simply left speechless, contemplating the environment around us. Our programme was very flexible, and depending on whether you want to go for more active pursuits (sandboarding, rock scrambling, camel riding), the sight-seeing and walking, or simply enjoying tea in the beautiful surrounds, Saleh can tailor the day around what you want to do. The real highlight for us was staying the night out at Saleh's camp in the middle of the desert, nestled in next to a huge rock cliff, with an amazing view across the desert and of the sunset. Sitting around the fire enjoying a delicious cooked meal, chatting about the day, and then sleeping under the stars (although you can also sleep in one of the tents if you like), was a wholly refreshing and revitalising experience. We were truly sad to leave this incredible place and to have to say goodbye to Saleh. We have vowed to return, but next time with a large group of friends. We couldn't recommend this enough.
