Location description from owner

The St. Lucia region

St Lucia is the Crown Jewel of the Antilles, affectionately known as 'Helen of the West Indies'. This Caribbean Island is 238 square miles of pure pleasure. Its stunning combination of palm fringed sandy beaches, sparkling blue waters and natural tropical scenery make this the most beautiful paradise holiday destination.

With its part English, part French, and exotically West Indian flavor, the island offers a rich tradition of Creole cuisine and gentle good humored people.

Annual temperatures range between 70F and 90F with calming, cooling sea breezes, ensuring a natural flow of fresh air. It’s just perfect for lazy sunbathing, leisurely exploration, or an unsurpassed range of sporting activities.

Marigot Bay is a beautiful unspoilt region of St Lucia. It is a natural deep water marina accommodating the largest luxury super yacht visitors. With natural protection from the hills on either side and protected mangroves that cover two thirds of the hillside down to the waters edge it is a truly unique location.

Marigot Bay has its own sandy beach perfect for sunbathing, swimming or participating in the wide range of water activities including Snorkelling, Diving, Fishing, Wind Surfing, Kayaking and Water Skiing. For users of the beach facilities, restaurants or bars a free ferry service operates across the bay, otherwise a small fee applies.

Marigot Bay has long associations with the rich and famous and was the original location for the Doctor Doolittle film with Rex Harrison and more recently visited by Eddy Murphy following his remake of the film.

The Marina Village at Marigot Bay provides a range of shopping from food essentials to luxury gifts, these include a Supermarket, Bank, Jewellers, Boutiques, Gifts, Bakery and Coffee Shops.

Marigot Bay is conveniently located for the all main towns and visitor attractions of the island. Going south it is 20 minutes to Anse La Raye, 40 minutes to Canaries and 60 mins to Soufriere. All these locations are also accessible by Water Taxi from Marigot Bay.

Cap Estate (50 minutes drive North from Marigot Bay) :-

Located at the most northern tip of the island where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean and a cooling northeasterly breeze blows.

Cap Estate is an affluent neighbourhood with opulent villas, luxury hotels and fine restaurants. The stunning 360 degree views make it easy to understand why people choose this location.

On the east coast the land has natural beauty and unspoilt beaches, ideal for exploring with a 4WD. From the hilltops you can see down to Rodney Bay and the tips of the Pitons, looking north the island of Martinique is just visible.

Pigeon Island is a designated St Lucia National Park and was the scene of many battles between the British and French over ownership of St Lucia. It is a peaceful place to relax and wander through the military ruins displaying St Lucian history. The highest peak is known as Signal Hill and boasts 360 degree views of the surrounding area.

Pigeon Island Attractions :-

- Fort Rodney Military Ruins

- Beaches, great for snorkelling

- Jambe de Bois, authentic rustic restaurant

Gros Islet (40 minutes drive North of Marigot Bay) :-

Gros Islet is the most northerly fishing village in St Lucia and is located between Pigeon Island and Rodney Bay. The first priests to arrive on the island in 1749 settled in Gros Islet so the community has a long history as a Roman Catholic Parish. Today the village is a flourishing fishing village, in the daytime you pass small wooden, colourful caribbean homes. Every Friday evening this quiet town turns in to a huge street party known as 'Jump Up' for anyone and everyone to join in. There will be drink stalls and BBQ's where you can get a cheap local meal of steamed fish, chicken, pork or lambi (conch).

Rodney Bay and Marina (40 minutes drive North of Marigot Bay) :-

Rodney Bay and its Marina are the centre of the St Lucian tourist area. Reduit Drive starts with two large shopping malls with all the brand name stores for clothing, jewellery and gifts, leading to a strip of bars, restaurants and hotels all running parallel to St Lucias most popular beach Reduit Beach. The beach has long stretches of golden sands with all types of water sports.

At Rodney Bay you are spoilt for choice in Restaurants, all tastes are catered for including Caribbean, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, French, Thai, Italian, Mexican and American. For nightlife there are plenty of fun bars that turn into hotspots at night, there is also St Lucias only Casino.

Castries is the Capital of St Lucia and the centre for Government and Commercial activities. Castries is also home to more than a third of St Lucias population. In 1948 a huge fire destroyed much of the town but Castries still has several landmarks for visitors to enjoy, in particular the very large and elaborately decorated Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with its bright interior frescos covering the walls. As you stroll through the town centre you will come across the Derek Walcott Square, dedicated to St Lucias Nobel prizewinner for Literature in 1992.

The best way to experience Anse L Raye is to attend the weekly Seafood Friday. Activity starts from around 6:00pm, tables and food vendors are set up on the seafront cooking on their BBQ's. You can enjoy a sumptuous feast of freshly caught seafood such as grilled Mahi Mahi, Snapper, Shrimps, Lobster (seasonal) or stuffed Crab Backs. This is served with all the local trimmings such as Accras, Bakes, Dasheene, Plantain, Macaroni, Rice and of course drinks. Soufriere (60 minutes drive South of Marigot Bay) :-

Soufriere the capital and tourist centre of the South, was St Lucia's first town, established by the French in 1746. The French presence is still very evident today in the Creole language and the distinguishing colonial architecture throughout the town.

Soufriere translated means 'Sulphur in the Air' , true to its name, the pungent smell emanates from the Drive-In Volcano and Sulphur Springs which bubble and let of steam all day long. Close by are the dark mineral mud baths where you can slather yourself in mud before rinsing in hot pools.

Soufriere is most famous for its UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Pitons, and these will be the first things you see upon approach to the town. The awe-inspiring Gros Piton and Petit Piton, without doubt, create the most impressive scene on the whole island. If you are adventurous and fairly fit it is possible to climb them.
