A Stay in Yogi Home Stay.

Accommodation is provided in Anand s house .It has a kitchen with fridge, hall space room, two bedrooms with attached toilets and showers. There is a washing machine. You are going to stay with Anand and his family which includes his wife and childrens.

Anand is Kalari Gurukkal, Yoga Teacher, Marma Therapist and Ayurvedic practitioner. You get to experience Martial Arts of Kerala, to see or to participate in the training which takes place every day , You can participate in Yoga classes, you can see the Ayurvedic treatements imparted to patients.

From the house, A five minutes’ walk brings you to the main road, where you can find a rickshaw if you want to use one. On the other side of the road is the school. Turn right and a few hundred yards away you will reach the temple. If you go early in the morning or in the evening you will see people going there for their devotions. Still going on, you will have some nice views of the paddy fields, with their bird life. You will reach a stream where you can watch people bathing their cattle, washing their clothes or having a dip. A stroll along the bank of the stream is very peaceful and cooling in the late afternoon.

A couple of hundred yards beyond the stream you reach Anand’s place, where you will get your meals. Food is freshly made and healthy with plenty of vegetables and fish.

At Anand’s place you will be able to get yoga lessons before breakfast, or a massage in the evening. From 6.30 pm onward you can sit and watch the kalari practice which is held every night. It starts with the youngest boys and they are joined by older boys and finally the more proficient members who can wield weapons in an impressive manner.

Toddy tapping is an activity specific to Kerala. Learn about it and sample the beverage for something different!

Only 6kms away is the town of Guruvayoor with its famous temple. Although it is not open to non Hindus, you will be able to walk around the outside and take in some of the atmosphere particular to this pilgrimage place.

If there are no elephants there, you can see plenty of them being taken care of at Elephant Park nearby. Have you ever seen an elephant being massaged or having a pedicure? Here is your chance!

Local people are very friendly and welcoming. They will let you know if there is a Snake Festival or other festivity in the vicinity. Don’t hesitate to go and see , these events are always colourful and genuine.
