Tucked behind El Jadida’s honey-coloured ramparts in the heart of the old Portuguese city, just a short walk from the port and the beach, Ryad Piri Piri makes a stylish base to discover the historic site and the Doukkala region.
Conceived by Moroccan artist Younes Baba-Ali, the ryad functions as part exhibition space, part workspace, and guesthouse for like-minded souls who want to immerse themselves in a creative hub while supporting both local and international artists.
The interior, tailor made by local artisans, combines traditional Moroccon design of cool plaster, shaggy rugs and tadelakt with a modern, minimalistic aesthetic and an ever-changing collection of contemporary art works. All four rooms are uncluttered, adorned with art works and nods to Africa’s myriad handicrafts ranging from Malian mudcloth to brightly coloured West-African waxprints.
The ryad yields plenty of peaceful and inspiring lounging spaces, from the sun-drenched roof terrace offering panoramic views over the old city and the Atlantic ocean, to cosy nooks on the ground floor where visitors can consult the art library. Apart from that, there is a small boutique with local products and handicrafts from different African designers. The artworks and furniture are for sale as well in order to support our artist residency program with Limiditi - Temporary Art Projects. For detailed info, please get in touch.
