Location description from owner

The Goa region

Located on the western coast of India, the state of Goa richly deserves its title as the ‘Pearl of the Orient’. Goa has a unique history, rich culture and magnificent scenic beauty. This can be seen in both the picturesque stretches of unspoiled white sand and the architectural splendor of its many churches and temples. The lifestyle and culture of Goa is unique within India as it has grown around the meeting of many different races, religions and cultures. From the Asian influences of India and the orient to the relaxed European style of the Portuguese colonists, all have combined to create the distinctive lifestyle that the Goan people now enjoy.

Dona Paula

Sub Rosa is centrally located within Goa. it allows easy access to the colour, excitement and vitality of the bustling capital city of Panjim. It is the perfect base for independent exploration whilst enjoying the comforts of home.

Dona Paula is ideally situated to explore both the vibrant and colourful North of Goa and the unparalleled scenery and relaxed ambiance of the South of Goa with its unspoiled beaches and excellent restaurants.

Dona Paula's name is attached to a romantic story detailing the tragic death of a Viceroy's daughter who was forbidden from marrying the local fisherman she loved. The statue of these lovers still sits at the top of the jetty and the village still retains the flavour of the tradition fishing village it was then.

Early risers can sit on the balcony and watch the fishermen land their early morning catch, whilst listening to Phillip the bread man sounding his bicycle horn to alert the villagers to the delivery of their fresh rolls and milk. Place your order with Philip and enjoy a true taste of local life. Living in Dona Paula truly provides an opportunity to experience daily life in a Goan village; seeing the wildlife and shopping at the local shop, whilst also being close enough to other areas to take advantage of the many tourist trips and wonderful sights of Goa.
