Traditional Stone Cottage - Rias Bajas region of Galicia: Porto do Son, A Coruña
Stone-built cottage in a convenient location for exploring western Galicia

The property is attached to the owner's residence, is stone-built with very think walls and rather spacious. The windows are quite small so there is not much natural light inside. It is well equipped and the stove in particular is gas and very good. The small electric oven does a great job as well. The washing machine, should you need it, is in the owner's garage, but easily accessible. There are two good-sized bedrooms, one with a double bed, one with two singles. There is a lovely garden with a terrace and barbecue for eating outside. The wi-fi is OK, although the signal is very weak in the cottage and was rather slow in the living room, also apt to drop out for a while at times. Be careful you don't overload the electrics - it will trip the fuse which is in the owner's property. Access to the property is through a very narrow lane with concrete walls either side, so be careful if you have a large or long car - it will be a real squeeze-through! The surrounding area is quite rural - close to the coast, whcih is built up, and the mountains, which aren't. The mountains were almost permanently cloud-covered during our stay, though. Conveniently situated for visiting the Rías Baixas and Santiago, there is a good road network making access to all the sights easy. The owner has compiled a book of everything you need to know about the area, and we found that very useful in our explorations. Unfortunately the weather was not very good during our stay - wet and cold for much of the week, which made the cottage cold as well. The owner and his wife were very friendly and helpful. Both are English speakers. see more
