“A truly charming property in a beautiful area run by people who really want you to enjoy your stay.” The location of this magnificent house in the streets of Ellenz really make you feel part of the place. It was quiet and peaceful, the property fascinating and the owners (who are English so very easy communicatio) made every effort to make us feel at home and give every help they could have done. The attic room we rented for a week was delightful with the ancient beams and artefacts surrounding you. We understand it is being refurbished later in the year which will add further to it. There are endless places to visit in the area and Mike & Maria can advise on the 'must see' ones. Our week seemed so brief, so we only scratched the surface but this was an excellent base, run by great people who really care about what they do. The private wine cellar for evening drinks is atmospheric and interesting and again there are plans to futher improve it. Highly recommended.
We stayed for three nights in the Kerner appartment tucked away in a pretty side street but still with great views of the valley. Maria was on hand to give advice for day trips, lots of scope for running, walking, wine tasting and generally relaxing. The studio was just right for us and it was great to be able to use the garden to use up any remaing toddler energy at the end of the day. We couldn't have been made to feel more welcome by Maria and Mike and also the other residents of the village. Great value would stay again - the wine from next door is good too!. …
Apartment Silvaner - Zur Alten Weinkelter
Very peaceful and relaxing.
We were made very welcome from the outset. Drying facilities were made available. We were invited to a wine-tasting in the cellar [none of the other guests came] and were helped with purchasing wine from the Winzer next door. [Perhaps he could be asked to check the quality of the German in the information provided in the folder?] We enjoyed the apartment and had no difficulty negotiating the stairs. I imagine not everyone would find it as easy. As we weren't interested in watching TV or investigating internet access, we cannot comment on these. We were able to enjoy the village and the surrounding area without using the car at all. We used the free transport ticket on one day, hired bikes on another and made a day river trip. We are seriously considering a similar holiday in future so that we can both enjoy things fully. If we didn't mind basing ourselves in the same area we would almost certainly book the same apartment. …
Apartment Dornfelder - Zur Alten Weinkelter
Beautiful property in a stunning location... not to mention the wine!
Who would have believed we could be holidaying in such a beautiful place, just five hours' drive from home?
As part of Zum Alten Weinkelter, the Dornfelder is a lovely apartment, nicely furnished, sparkly-clean and with everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Maria was on hand when we arrived to give us a friendly welcome and lots of tips on where to visit and much more during our stay. Views from the windows of the wonderful local vineyards and, though we unfortunately weren't able to partake, Maria and her lovely husband offer wine tastings and advice on local produce. We were able to have a lovely BBQ one night too, as the sun went down on the lovely garden.
Tiny, tiny problem - literally the only problem - is that the wireless signal is very weak in this apartment. Whilst this wouldn't bother most people, we found this a minor annoyance as we had, unfortunately, had to bring work with us (we're self-employed). It was easily resolved by opening the door, though! To be honest, it made us relax a little!
Zum Alten Weinkelter is one of the most stunning properties in a particularly picturesque village - Maria and Michael will tell you all about the renovations - really interesting! Though Ellenz is not full of restaurants and bars, there are enough within a few paces' walk to keep you happy for a short to medium-length stay and we highly recommend the Hans Joachim Weber Weinkelter, just around the corner - their white wines are to die for and they do a superb meat platter that's perfect to nibble alongside a glass or two. An enjoyable little trip over the river will take you to Beilstein, with its gorgeous little restaurants and gift shops and 10 minutes down the road you're in Cochem. Location, therefore, couldn't be better! …

Apartment Riesling - Zur Alten Weinkelter
Lovely old place in great village
I loved this place . On the high street but not that you 'd know. Tastfully decorated room and comfortable for the three of us. The village is ideally situated for exploring the area. Hosts were kind to us and we enjoyed a bit of wine tasting in the cellar.
All in all a splendid time was had. …
