Bora Bora holidays

Bora Bora, French Polynesia

The most famous of French Polynesia’s Leeward Islands, Bora Bora is one of the best honeymoon islands in the world!

Rent an overwater bungalow on Holiday Lettings and indulge in this tropical paradise. Leave your worries behind as you sip an exotic cocktail and lose yourself in the turquoise sea.

About Bora Bora

First discovered by Dutch admiral Jacob Roggeveen in 1722 and visited by Captain James Cook in 1777, Bora Bora is a volcanic island 6 miles long and about 2.5 miles wide.

Surrounded by a coral reef and tiny islets that protect a lagoon of every imaginable shade of blue, Bora Bora is the definition of a tropical getaway.

With a soaring dormant volcano at its centre and lush tropical rain forests descending down to Coconut fringed beaches, it’s no wonder this South Pacific jewel has become so popular with honeymooners.

To get to Bora Bora you must connect through the French Polynesian capital of Papeete for the 50-minute flight.

With a population of just 8,800 and a tourist trade that caters to people in search of the ultimate escape, there is nothing not to love about Bora Bora. Start your adventure with Holiday Lettings, today!

What to do

Being a tiny island with pristine sandy beaches, surrounded by coral reefs teeming with tropical fish, you won’t be surprised to hear that most of the activities on Bora Bora revolve around the sea.

But to witness the amazing marine life around Bora Bora you don’t need to be a scuba diver. Just grab a mask and a snorkel, and you can swim right next to the coral reef!

A great way to see the island from above is to go parasailing. Don't worry, the boat operators give you the option of how high you want to go.

If you feel adventurous enough, hike the five or so hours to the summit of Mt Pahia for stunning 360-degree views of the island.

During WWII Bora Bora was a US Navy supply base and still has reminders of that time, including a radar station and two giant defence guns. If you're a fan of history, they're worth chequing out.

Top Bora Bora travel tips

The hottest and rainiest months on Bora Bora are from December to April. Even though the best time to visit is the cooler part of the year, between June and October, strong trade winds can still bring rain with them.

To get a feel of how the locals live, visit the main town of Vaitape for a spot of shopping and to take care of any banking or business you may need to do.

Seafood is, of course, a big part of the food scene in Bora Bora. The local Poisson Cru is a must-try dish of tuna marinated in lime and Coconut.

Bora Bora is not just an island filled with 5-star resorts and overwater bungalows. It's also home to some mid-level accommodation you can find on Holiday Lettings that will suit all budgets. If you are looking for the ultimate tropical beach escape, Bora Bora is hard to beat.
