“Our stay at Steamboat Fantasy helped cap off 4 great days of ski” We've stayed at Steamboat numerous times and are always very satisfied with the accomodations. It's close proximity to the hill is great for our older kids who can walk to the nearest lift. Very spacious and accomodates adults and kids without any seating issues. This year a couple families joined us that had never been skiing or to Big Powderhorn and they absolutely loved it and we believe their kids will be lifetime skiiers now! They are already talking about coming again next year :)
“Great place to stay!” We have been coming to Powderhorn for 23 years and 11 of them have been at Bear Necessities. We love the ski in-ski out option. The large kitchen is wonderful for a full house of guests. Bedrooms very spacious and comfortable. Hot tub is great after a long day of skiing. Comfortable living room with a lot of seating. We, however, have grown out of the Bear Necessities and are trying out Sno Summit next year.
“Great place for a family reunion” Our family came from four states to reunite in our parents' hometown of Bessemer, Mi. Slideaway was the perfect place for us to stay. It has three bedrooms and two full baths on the lower level; a living room, dining room for 10, a huge well-stocked kitchen, and a full bath on the main level; and a loft sleeping 5 on the upper level. The place is clean, modern, and decorated with a north woods theme. It has one TV/DVD, lots of windows, overhead fans, and a large deck with two charcoal grills. It is really a lovely place, and the Bpla staff is great, particularly Charlene. We recommend Slideaway highly!
“We keep coming back to Hamlet Haus due to it's great location an” This was our 3rd year in a row for renting Hamlet Haus for our pre-Christmas ski trip.
Check in for the rental was really easy. Everything was confirmed with our reservation and all it took was a few pieces of information to complete the check-in.
Hamlet Haus is just down the road from the lodging association and a few streets off the main road. When we got there the driveway was already shoveled. We did have to turn up the heat in the cabin it was set to about 60 degrees in each room but other than that the cabin was still in great condition.
The kitchen is fully complemented with cookware and utensils. Everything was clean and working. Each of the other rooms were also in a very clean and well appointed. One thing we like about this cabin is that the owner has games that the kids can play if we weren't skiing.
We stocked the kitchens with a trip to Wal-Mart. And made our own meals. It's good to have a dishwasher just to load up and run after a long day skiing.
We also loved the wood burning stove. Makes the cabin nice and toasty after dinner. There was plenty of firewood. And the dry sauna also works our some of the pains from skiing and provided a fast warm-up. There is also a locking ski locker on the front porch so the ski's can stay outside safely.
What we liked the best was that we had to stay an extra day due to bad weather was forecasted for the day we were do drive home. The extra day was 50% off the daily rate. We were able to do some shopping around the local towns. And relax a bit more before I day to drive home.
The disappointment was that the pool was closed due to a problem with the water heater and the staff was not aware of it until we stopped by to ask when it would be open again. They gladly refunded the fees for using the swimming pool.
All and all this is still the best value for lodging when skiing in the U.P. We look forward to next season.
“Great Ski-in/Ski-out house!!” Our family of 10 stayed here over President's Day Weekend and had a great time! The house is very well appointed with everything you need from blankets and pillows to pots, pans and servingware. We loved the wood burning stove and the ample cut wood. The house was great for ski-in/out with the run only 20 feet from the back door. The Bpla people were awesome and came immediately when we needed new towels and provided excellent service at check in and out. The only negative to this house is only 1 shower and we made due with a "showering schedule". We really enjoyed the house and plan to come back. I would highly recommend this home to friends and family.
“Very comfortable and cozy” We were Up North for the week of July 4th...it was hot...we understood that the unit was not air conditioned, as it is primarily used in winter months and it was unusually hot for this area. The ceiling fan helped a lot and usually it cooled off and there was a nice cross breeze at night. The unit was very comfortable and cozy. The kitchen was very well equipt. We enjoyed the nice deck and looked forwarad to watching for deer on the hill each night! Staff was very friendly and helpful!
“great stay” Starwood was perfect for our group. We had 4 kids and 6 adults. The bunk area with foosball table was a perfect get away for kids while the adults could relax upstairs. The only downside, was the table could only comfortably fit 6 people, which for us was okay as the kids just ate at the snack bar. But, if you had 10 people who all wanted to eat around the same table, that wouldn't work in Starwood. I would rent starwood again, the short walk down the driveway then across the street to the trail was easy and convenient.
“We had a very enjoyable time despite the weather.” Our condos 1 and 2 were very clean and comfortable except for the couches. Plenty of nice kitchenware. The service was super, they were
there in a jiffy when we could not find a wine bottle opener. It was great to ski from the back door . We hope to return next year.
“Great Family Getaway” We have been coming here for years and this was our 3rd time staying in the alpen Villas. Plenty of space for the 5 of us. Nothing fancy but it has everything we need and it is a great location. So convenient for the kids to just ski in and out. The new lodge was beautiful, staff was great and we will be back again next year!
“A stay to remember” For the last four years my family has stayed at this cabin during our annual ski trip to Powderhorn, we've grown to love it. There are a few hiccups - you have to be pretty nimble to navigate the spiral staircase, and this is the second year in a row that Powderhorn hasn't opened Flintlock in time for our stay so it hasn't been the "trailside" stay that we've hoped and paid for. We've treked our way across the hill to get over to an open lift/run in order to make it over to the lodge. To compensate for the "inconvenience" they took 10% off per night we stayed that our trail wasn't open. Otherwise, we love staying there. It's size is perfect for our group - six adults and a dog. That's another perk - we get to bring the dog. We have such a great time, stopping in during the ski day to warm up by the fire with a drink! Making dinner, playing games, watching movies every night.. so much better than staying in town at a hotel! Oh and the best part of the stay this year was that my boyfriend proposed at mountain view in front of the fireplace! So this cabin will always hold a special memory for us!
“familoy ski trip” The staff at the Lodging Association were very nice and helpful, especially when we diuscovered after the first night that our bed had been (not quite) fitted with too-small sheets. We absolutley loved being trailside, the equipment locker and propane grill were very nice extras, and overall the lodge was comfortable. The walls and floors seemed a bit flimsy, and the heating pipes rattled all night long.
The attention paid to grooming the slopes was very much appreciated, and conditions on the hill were excellent, even on Sunday with the half foot of fresh snow.
We were saddened by the death of the snowboarder on Sunday, and our hearts go out to his family and friends.
“Great Guys Ski Weekend Place” We had 8 guys on our weekend and so needed 8 beds. While the unit had only 7, there was plenty of room for an air mattress on the floor of one of the bedrooms. It was not the fanciest of units but it was perfect for us. The unit had lots of space for people to sit to watch TV and to eat. By shifting the large table, we were able to seat all 8 together for meals. The WiFi service was excellent as well as the selection of TV channels. The only downside for a group as large as ours was having only two bathrooms though it wasn't a big problem. It is a ways away from the ski base but the shuttle service is fantastic, it showed up only 5 minutes or so after I called and went right to the chalet. Diane did a fantastic job of helping set up the reservation and she even was there to check us in. She went the extra mile to help find a suitable unit and make us feel welcome.
“Skyward is a comfortable, convenient, family-friendly getaway.” We slept 21 people comfortably. (With a few blow-up mattresses). Lots of bedrooms, with comfy beds; dishwasher and garbage disposal in the well-equipped kitchen; plenty of seating for eating and lounging; spectacular views of trees and slopes made for a winning winter experience. We especially appreciated the open floor plan, which made for easy conversation and child supervision. The lower level allowed for people who wanted some alone time to retreat for awhile. The only small dissatisfaction was the shut-down of the ski-to lift adjacent to the home because of strong (?) winds. We hope to return annually!
“Our 34th Year and still planning on coming back” We had another fantastic trip to Powderhorn. This was out groups 34th year and we have booked our 35th year for next year. We love our unit, as we can ski in and out and the people at Powderhorn have always taken great care of us. This year was a little cold, but we survived. It's not all about skiing, it's about the comrady, good friendship, good drink, good time and good food. Again, thanks for a great time. Love the Kimbal Inn.

“Fabulous, well appointed ski chalet” Sno Summit is the perfect layout for multiple families to share. A beautiful large great room with huge stone fireplace where everyone can watch the action on the slopes, along with two individual more intimate family rooms on the main level where Dad can watch the weather in one and the kids can watch cartoons in the other. Two kitchens are always an asset when feeding a large group. The lower level is great for kids, tweens or teens with two additional dens for watching TV or just a place to hang out away from Mom & Dad. The lower level also boasts the indoor hot tub and Sauna (an outdoor hot tub in its own 3 season porch is also located just off the great room on the main level). There were ample bedrooms and sleeping space. We love skiing at Powderhorn and appreciate owners who provide this level of accommodations for other guests to enjoy!
“Tealwood our home away from home..” We have stayed here before and this time brought friends with us who also greatly enjoyed the place. Only thing that needs attention would be the mattresses (time to replace them...particularly the bedroom on the first level with the bunk beds in it - the queen mattress is completely worn out so that is the only complaint that my back has.) Overall, we love this chalet and Powderhorn. Thanks for another great stay in the North woods! We'll be back!
“Good Experience” We went with a group of 12 to enjoy a long weekend and rented both sides of the unit. We had a plumbing problem initially, but the staff were very friendly and helped get it addressed in a timely manner. Great in and out access to the hill as well as good amenities at the property. The only drawback is that the walls are paper thin and you can hear everything going on in the rooms around and above you. We didn't care, but others might. I recommend it.
“Very nice condo and location” We enjoyed our stay at Powderhorn very much.
The lodge was very workable for the four of us but we could have four more and it would still have been comfortable.
Only wish the day would not have been so windy. We all had a good time.
“Cozy Olympic Retreat” This was our first time staying at K-2. We enjoyed watching the Olympics in the comfortable living room. The flat screen TV was a plus. We also built a cozy fire each night in the Franklin stove. The bathroom shower is a bit small but the bathroom itself had plenty of room and was always toasty warm.
The location, while not on the ski slope, was very handy, close to Ironwood and Bessemer, just off the main road. We plan to stay at K-2 again.
