“Enchanting” From the moment you enter Balam'Ek you know you are in a special place. The landscaping provides an enchanting setting and surrounds the home with a lush blanket. We have stayed there 3 times in the last 2 years and hope to make another trip late this year. The owners are thoughtful in providing recommendations for anything you might need. This home can easily accommodate 3 couples or a large family. Go for the view, stay for the comfort and convenience of charming akumal!

“A different review” My goal with this review is to provide insight on what our concerns were going in and what reality was. I am an accountant so please forgive how I structure my thoughts. I was traveling with my wife, daughter 9 and son 11, from Houston. Main concern was Security. As far as security goes, I was really worried as my wife was going to hold my personally responsible for everything as this was my idea. She was really nervous. Quotes "no way I'm driving" and "kids, you may never see me so attached to your dad". To sum it up (as I only have 1405 characters left). Out of the 7 days she and my daughter went out by themselves around the area in the car. Really, we did not feel one once of security issues during the visit. We even felt safe enough to drive to Chiez Inez, which was 3 hours inland and 3 back!. We stopped for lunch on the way back in a city call Valdiroid, big city, and really nice place. The house is located in a neighborhood which has plenty of security. Which is really over kill, but nice anyway. Water is no problem as they put the big bottles in the kitchen to use. Plentiful. As far as eating arrangements, we have stayed at many upscale houses in the us and abroad and this has the most amazing kitchen. Huge, great cook ware, plates etc. I like to cook so it was a fun part of the trip. Really good super markets past playa de carma, (big and very nice). No need to stop at the Sam's or other things along the way. The pics you see of the house on line don't do the place justice, they don't capture how big this place is, house and private beach. I guess in summary, don't deny yourself this one, because you may be worried. It is really a great place and you won't find better value. Lastly, absolutely no safety issues at all, so put that out of your mind. As far as the other review items, I've read them all and they are very representive of what I experienced, so I won't repeat. please forgive my spelling.

“Christmas 2009 at Luna Azul, #5, Akumal” Akumal definitely exudes more of an ex-pat versus "authentico" feel, but our family agreed it is the perfect base for a trip to QRoo. The clear and still waters of Akumal Beach lapping up onto the white sand are amazing, as are the shallow snorkeling wonders of Half Moon Bay. And the food! Not nearly enough time to sample all of the exceptional restaurants. Our Akumal favorites were La Lunita (never has grouper been prepared so well as on their Christmas Eve menu & they also win best margarita in Akumal), Turtle Bay Bakery (sticky buns!), Lol Ha (our favorite guacamole on this trip), and Que Onde. As for our condo, a few of the pluses at Luna Azul #5: Location! Sunrise! Clear ocean! Kitchen! Hot water showers! Comfortable beds in spacious rooms! Great restaurants nearby! What I would add if I owned #5: A comfortable chair or two for reading. Improved guest suggestion book with restaurant menus, more detailed recommendations of how-to's, and insider tips. More small rugs. Hints on how to get rid of ants (ouch!). Maps of the area, even if a large wall map. Overall, a lovely place and we were very happy to spend Christmas with our family in Akumal!

“Great place to stay” Fabulous view, location, and condo unit. First view from the balcony is breathtaking! Unit is very nicely appointed. Very comfortable. Would ask for this specific unit again.
