“We got married here.” Our title should indicate we are biased. We chose a private destination wedding with just us instead of an elaborate event at home with family. Jeannie helped us arrange things from the rental car ($400 for 9 days) to the flowers for the bride's hair. There is no public transportation. Due to overlapping our stay with the regatta, the ceremony was actually at Deals Beach on the Tropic of Cancer with a local minister. Yes, it was hazy with intermittent showers, but we were hurricane free and had the beach to ourselves. As great as GB is, we explored the whole island. Eighty miles long, no stop signs, no traffic lights, one deserted beach after another. How could we not explore? From GB, you can swim or kayak to uninhabited Sandy Cay, walk to the regatta, walk to two gocery stores, and run from bats in the cave, among other things. Because all the positive remarks in the previous reviews are accurate reflections, we won't repeat them here. Our downsides were a rental car that became a lemon (We were brought another car and Jeannie called the restaurant to pay for our drinks.), an inexperienced wedding planner (not Jeannie's fault as she wasn't the planner), the two rooms are actually rented as two separate studio units which means the other party can hear and see everything if you sleep with windows open, no doctor is available if you wake up with pneumonia on your wedding day, and the outdoor kitchen was just being completed when we left. All that negativity aside, Gb's positive is so much that, when we make it back to Long Island one day, we're hoping to stay at GB again. Fyi: We stopped by the resorts out of curiosity. The Cape at Santa Maria is a fabulous beach, but Gb's lodging appears better. Sella Maris's "love baches" are great fr walking but not swimming. Just make sure to leave time each day to play some horse shoes, take the kayaks out, and watch the sunset--all from Gb's private beach.
