Tasmania holidays

Known colloquially as “Tassie”, Tasmania is an Australian island-state situated south of the continent proper. Almost half of Tasmania is set up as a reserve, National Park, or World Heritage Site since most of the area is unspoilt, natural land. Named after Dutch explorer Abel Tasman, the island of Tasmania was actually connected to Mainland Australia until 10,000 years ago.

There are actually four distinct seasons in Tasmania, but neither the summers or winters hit extreme temperatures. Magnificent limestone caves dot the landscape in the northwest and mineral rich rock is found on Mount Read. The central highlands area is the most mountainous, and there is also a temperate rainforest in Tasmania. Due to the rocky terrain, there are a large number of rivers flowing through the island.

Tasmanian beer is especially popular with brands like Boags and Cascade brewed locally. To eat, Tasmanians love seafood like crayfish, salmon and oysters. Two major tourism events are the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race on Boxing Day, as well as the Taste of Tasmania food festival. For sport, there is the Tasmanian Tigers cricket team, as well as Australian Rules Football played on the island.

Beyond the topography, one of the main tourist attractions is the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) which opened in 2011.

A few areas worth visiting and staying in Tasmania:

Hobart: The capital of Tasmania. You’ll find plenty of culture, excitement, and energy in Hobart. Experience the island through the eyes of its inhabitants. You can eat delicious food and see plenty of entertainment galore in Hobart.

Launceston: Situated between the North Esk and South Esk rivers, Launceston is the second largest city in Tasmania. The central hub of the north houses the Tasmania Zoo, featuring yes, you guessed it, Tasmanian Devils.

Bruny Island: The ultimate Tasmanian wilderness experience can be found on Bruny Island. Water activities and inland adventures are plentiful in this area of the island.

Relax in peaceful, beautiful nature, very near Hobart CBD & airport.
Perfectly charming and well-appointed!

Loved this sweet, eco-friendly home with cheery decorating and wonderful hosts. They left a basket of goodies and offered terrific advice. About a hundred wallabies gathered on the hillside; sheep dotted the meadows. It was a slice of heaven. … see more
Peace & Plenty - Secluded beach house with a heated indoor pool in Tasmania
Secluded stylish luxury

We spent a week at Peace & Plenty, hoping to rest and recharge our batteries. It comprehensively exceeded our expectations. The location is great for exploring the east coast of Tasmania, but it’s the house and surroundings that are truly distinctive. The property is right on the clean, white sands of Nine Mile Beach - perfect for a breezy stroll collecting shells and admiring the views of the Hazards and Shouten Maria Islands. There is an organic vegetable garden that provided us with tasty tomatoes, green beans, herbs and apples. Supplemented by excellent wines from nearby cellar doors, and genuinely the best oysters in the world from Melshell Oyster Shack, eating local was a highlight of the visit. The house itself was the star of our stay. Designed around a hexagonal living area which makes the most of the views at all times of the day, there are separate wings each containing a comfortable double bedroom and well-appointed bathroom. The pool is a bonus, easing limbs tired from a day’s exploration. All appliances and furniture are high-end, contributing to the secluded, stylish luxury of this delightful property.see more
Bruny Vista
This cosy house has the best view in Tasmania!

I stayed in Bruny Vista, Kettering and thoroughly enjoyed the breathtaking views from nearly every window. The house is modern and comfortable with lovely terraced gardens. It is totally private and surrounded by beautiful bushland with walk trails. The trails meander along the water. You feel as if you have the whole of the coast line to yourself but in actual fact you are close to a gorgeous village with its yachts and small port. Bruny Island is at your doorstep and just waiting to be discovered. I loved my stay as I could swim, sightsee and walk to my hearts content without even getting into my car.see more
Hobart Cityscape 2 Pascoe
Accessibility at its very best

This apartment was everything you could wish for when travelling with a family member in a wheelchair, the whole apartment was accessible and the bathroom was a true 'walk-in' bathroom. The furnishings, bedding, linen, kitchen equipment, laundry arrangement, etc, was amazing and made our holiday all the better having such a wonderful place to stay for our 4 nights in Hobart.see more

Ticked all the boxes !!

Staying at Hobart Cityscape was an absolute pleasure. Dealing with Pauline was easy and helpful given we had not been to Hobart before. The apartment was spacious and accommodating for our needs. Location is excellent as it was walking distance to the cinemas, centre of town and of course the Salamanca Markets!! We would definitely stay again should we return to Hobart. Love the heated Floor in the Bathroom !! Once again Thank you Pauling for your hospitality.see more
